The Trump Presidency: Part 21

The bizarre gets even weirder. On Saturday, president donald trump posted to Twitter a scene from the movie "Independence Day". Specifically, the Bill Pullman 'speech scene' but with trump's head superimposed on Pullman's body.

Trump Independence Day spoof

In the words of my ex-Boss, "You can't make this stuff up!"

Really good choice of Tucker Carlson's head, though. He looks utterly confused.

I imagine that was his righteous indignation look. Easy to do confused when you want to do righteous indignation. It's all in the mouth.

Of course, if anyone should have had practice with righteous indignation, surely Carlson should.

Trump doesn't have the technical skill to do this himself. So federal employees working in the White House thought this was a good idea, no doubt because it expresses their own worldview. That's what's really scary.

I seriously doubt it. Probably just a rabid Trump supporter. Or a Russian posing as one.

ETA: The Hill says it was "created by the pro-Trump account Mad Liberals, Saturday evening."

No matter who set it up, it was posted on Twitter by donald trump. Here's the relevant quote from The Hill.

The president tweeted the clip, created by the pro-Trump account Mad Liberals, Saturday evening. It features the audio of Pullman’s rousing speech with the heads of Trump and various Republican allies – including Fox host Sean Hannity, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk – edited in.

Reaching new heights of douchebaggery:

Trump officials deflect blame for US death toll, escalate reopening push

(CNN)Two of President Donald Trump's top officials are now pointing the finger at the administration's own scientists and Americans' pre-existing health conditions to explain the country's world-leading Covid-19 death toll.

Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar suggested Sunday that underlying health conditions, including among minorities, were one reason for the high American death toll -- nearly 90,000 as of Sunday evening. And Trump trade adviser Peter Navarro added the government's own Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to its list of scapegoats alongside China and the Obama administration.

Of course it's the fault of science! What else could it be?

And the claim regarding pre-existing health conditions?

Azar appeared to indicate that the inequities in the US health system, especially involving minorities, were to blame for the level of fatalities in the United States and said the administration had forged a "historic result" in preventing the pandemic from overwhelming the capacity of hospitals.

"Unfortunately the American population is ... very diverse," Azar told CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union."

"It is a population with significant unhealthy comorbidities that do make many individuals in our communities, in particular African American, minority communities particularly at risk here because of significant underlying disease health disparities and disease comorbidities -- and that is an unfortunate legacy in our health care system that we certainly do need to address."

Nice Freudian slip there, "Unfortunately the American population is ... very diverse,"! And as for the last paragraph, when was the last time that Trump, Azar or anyone else in this administration gave a flying ******* **** about the health of minorities!? This is a coded way of saying that dark-skinned people are the problem! Of course, the fat lard-ass white Trump supporters aren't to blame! They're all in fine and dandy health! The country should be opened up for them while letting the "*******" and "*****" die!

Every single day, Trump and his gang of murderers outdo themselves reaching new heights of douchebaggery! And his fat lard-ass white supporters drink more and more deeply from the Kool-Aid!

Good news, too bad it's fake. (Google no longer seems to be updating totals. Charts are from Worldometer ) Subtract the few states where cases/deaths really are trending steadily downward and it looks a lot worse.

Deaths are up to almost 91,000 as we begin a new week.

It IS trending downwards, but slowly. That is because of the lock-down. Remember, detected new cases is lagging behind about two weeks, deaths at least three. Those who are registers ill now caught it two weeks ago, those who die now, caught it alt least three weeks ago.

What remains to be seen is how it goes after a couple of weeks of re-opening.

The Wall Street Journal Editorial states that it doesn’t want me to act in an “impulsive” manner in Afghanistan. Could somebody please explain to them that we have been there for 19 years, and while soldier counts are way down now, hardly impulsive. Besides, the Taliban is.....

.....mixed about even wanting us to get out. They make a fortune $$$ by having us stay, and except at the beginning, we never really fought to win. We are more of a police force than the mighty military that we are, especially now as rebuilt. No, I am not acting impulsively!

So the so-called HHS Whistleblower was against HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE. Then why did he make, and sign, an emergency use authorization? @NorahODonnell said, “He shared his concerns with a reporter.” In other words, he LEAKED. A dumb @60Minutes hit job on a grandstanding Never Trumper!

Sleepy Joe is wrong again!

@TeamTrump
It took TWO MONTHS for Joe Biden to admit that President @realDonaldTrump's decision to restrict travel from China was the right call.
This was a colossal fail on Biden's part.
America can't afford Biden's China-centric approach to every issue.

“It’s time to put aside our petty differences”
It’s so g-damned weird watching those words come out of President Trump’s mouth.

Also, while the original presents a unified message urging all mankind to work together, when President Trump’s (gigantic) head is added, it becomes a perfect example of Trump speechifying: say a whole bunch of things and let people notice and remember the things they like while they ignore the parts they don’t like. So, most Trump supporters walk away with “fighting for our survival” and “the Forth of July will not just be an American holiday” ringing in their ears, but simply ignore “put aside our petty differences.” The next day, they conclude that the whole speech was a spot on summation of their core beliefs (even though it wasn’t).

That’s why candidate Trump espoused 4 different views on abortion over the course of 3 days. People with very different viewpoints then concluded that D. Trump believes what I believe.

........
I’ll offer 3 to 1 odds that Trump did not watch the whole thing because it was too long (and parts of it had other people’s faces on the screen). I’ll let you folks estimate the odds that he recognizes “go gentle into the night” as a line from a poem and the odds he knows the poet was Dylan Thomas.

Leaked?
Surely, he must know that his NDAs are not in effect.
D’oH. I’m the one who wrote that one should never say “Surely Trump must know..” because the bottom line is that he almost certainly does not know.

Or is this just a simple case of adding “leak” to the list of words he cannot correctly define.

I saw the 60 minutes episode. The tweet takes a LOT out of context. Bright explained in the interview why he approved the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA). He had also kicked the issue to his superiors and got crickets back.

So no one has mentioned the twitter exchange with Elon Musk.

Elon Musk tweets, "Take the red pill"
Trump says something in support
Ivanka says, "Taken"

Now, I've heard conflicting reports about what "the red pill" refers to. Some says it's an incel-anti-woman thing, and others claim that it's an anti-Semitic thing. None of the descriptions I have heard, however, have been good.

Pretty classy...

Surely "the red pill" is a Matrix reference? The red pill, IIRC, was the one that revealed reality.

The red pill is a reference to the movie "The Matrix" where the red pill represented the revelation of an unpleasant truth (waking up from the matrix). The two applications you mention appear to be specific ideologies simply portrayed as some unpleasant truth. In general 'taking the red pill' would simply mean waking up to reality. As such, many ideologies like to portray their particular perspective as the reality people need to wake up to, but the phrase itself carries no particular ideological underpinnings.

ETA:
Ninja'd twice, a bitter red pill to swallow.
