That's why they are involved. The state AG has appointed a new prosecutor, and the FBI is investigating, too.

"Justice Department officials said on Monday they were weighing whether to bring federal hate crime charges, and had asked state officials to pass along relevant information as they consider beginning an investigation.

“We will continue to assess all information,” Kerri Kupec, a Justice Department spokeswoman, said in a statement, “and will take any appropriate action that is warranted by the facts and the law.”

Cletus and Bubba might be in a spot of bother if the Feds get serious with this. Federal murder charges with a Hate Crime enhancement carry a potential death penalty.

I'm hearing that the water company had to be called out to the house site Ahmaud had fled from the day he died, to turn off water which was flooding out of pipes.

Indicating he may have been trying to dislodge / steal piping and didn't turn the water off first.

Dunno if true, but in time hopefully we'll get confirmation one way or the other on it.

So what? The stupid cracker boys could not have had direct knowledge of that making everything they did a felony.

Are you hard of reading or something? The crackers had to have direct knowledge of a felony to make a citizen's arrest. What you described is not direct knowledge. Do try to keep up. This is not a difficult concept.

The important thing is to cast as many slurs as possible against the victim, regardless of their relevance, merit, or even honesty.

This all, in the twisted mind of the bigot, justifies whatever happens to the victim. It makes everything all the victim's fault.

On this forum, the person making the claim is expected to support it with evidence, not the person questioning it.

If you don't support this claim, then I'll just assume that you don't know what you're talking about, again.

Better to assume that he's just making **** up ... again.

In this case your chances of being right are far higher.

You can spot a hammer on a road, but you can't see that they are clearly using PET pipes, not copper, on the video?

Also, the lawyer for the building site clearly stated that nothing was stolen, and nothing was vandalized. So it took less than a day for that lie to be exposed.

Oh, in that case, there may have been chickens on the defendant's property. He took a while coming when his dad called for him to get his gun. It's possible he was behind the shed committing and offense against chastity with one of the poultry. We'll have to see how it sorts out.

Don't worry, though, because as Skeptic Tank points out above, it doesn't even matter if Arbery was the one stealing the chickens, because it was probably one of his friends.

I think the McMichaels should plead guilty now because the existing released videos will show that they lied to the Police about the sequence of events leading to the killing of the jogger.

The video showing the killing of Arbery will destroy the McMichaels and perhaps cause the person who made the video to be charged.

Oh, please.

I keep being reminded of Mark Twain's treatise on people who support the most blatant murderers, coming up with infinitely absurd defences for the most heinous crimes.

"He trespassed!!11!!"

Yes, that's a great defence for a cold-blooded murder.

Do you have a cite for "brandishing" a weapon, or aiming it at another person, being illegal in Georgia? I can't find one.

In fact, there was recent proposed legislation to remove brandishing from Georgia law, but that was only a change to what constituted aggravated assault (as far as I can figure the bill, which didn't pass) would have made a gun not a deadly weapon unless it was pointed at someone. I guess pistol whipping or throwing a gun at someone.)

Of course, there may be other laws or case law that make pointing a gun at someone illegal in some certain circumstances. But I don't see anything in the law directly says so.

I found the law. GA Code § 16-11-102 (2014)

A person is guilty of a misdemeanor when he intentionally and without legal justification points or aims a gun or pistol at another, whether the gun or pistol is loaded or unloaded.

...intentionally pointing a loaded gun at someone is a misdemeanor?

It certainly is a different world south of the Mason Dixon line.

I suspect that the law cited by Devil's Advocate is the very minimal charge that could result from pointing a gun at someone. Under any circumstances, no matter what else is going on, it is at least a misdemeanor just to point a gun at someone, whether it is as a joke, a threat, an accident, whatever. The existence of that law gives a very easy way for a police officer to put a stop to some bad stuff without having to establish probable cause for anything except pointing the gun.

I further suspect that pointing a gun at someone and saying, "Don't move or I will kill you", is a very different, more serious, crime, in addition to pointing the gun, and also pointing a gun at someone in such a manner that a reasonable person would think that the threat is implied is also the same, more serious, crime.

ETA: I see that the law says "intentionally", so I suppose "by accident" in the above is incorrect.

Then you're part of the wrong species and on the wrong planet.

One of these days I would love to engage you in a debate on the general subject of racism. You don't seem either uneducated or stupid, and yet you hold beliefs that I believe are utterly irrational. I would love to see how you would respond to some questions about race and racism, when they aren't in the context of a specific event like this one, and when they aren't merely presented as rants.

I also think your beliefs on race cloud your judgement on specific issues and lead you to some erroneous conclusions.

It would also be fun to do it publicly just to see other people blow a gasket at allowing such a debate to continue. Some people have very strong ideas about what is and isn't acceptable to say to various people.

Remember when that off duty cop accidentally walked into the wrong apartment and shot and killed a black man sitting on his own couch, in his own home? Well Skeptic Tank still tried to blame the black guy!

I have no doubt whatsoever that it will make no difference what the prosecution comes up with, Skeptic Tank and others like him will ALWAYS think the black guy is at fault.

I think it would be hard to prove a hate crime here. They stopped him because they thought he was a burglar, not just because he was black. I think racial attitudes played a role, but from the evidence I have seen I don't think it can be shown that this happened specifically because of race.

Also, even it it was a hate crime it appears this particular type of hate crime would be maximum of life in prison, not the death penalty.

By "this particular type of hate crime" you mean murder, right?

Yes. But there are different Federal hate crimes that include murder. I think this would be the basic racist murder hate crime that would fall under 18 USC 249(a)(1), which does not include the death penalty.
