The Trump Presidency: Part 21

Going back to Space Force, we may now know the real reason he wants it. To protect US and corporate material interests.

Trump administration drafting a treaty to regulate lunar mining.

The Trump administration is drafting a legal blueprint for mining on the moon under a new U.S.-sponsored international agreement called the Artemis Accords, people familiar with the proposed pact told Reuters.

The agreement would be the latest effort to cultivate allies around NASA’s plan to put humans and space stations on the moon within the next decade, and comes as the civilian space agency plays a growing role in implementing American foreign policy. The draft pact has not been formally shared with U.S. allies yet.

It's so cute that he thinks that any other country would have any faith in an agreement that he had anything to do with. He's made it clear that he would just throw it away as soon as it was convenient.

I asked ⁦@realDonaldTrump⁩ why he didn’t wear a mask at the Honeywell plant yesterday. He said he had worn one. I said we did not see him wearing one. He said he wore one backstage and the Honeywell chief said it was not necessary to wear in the plant.

The Emperor's new mask.

A grown up with even a smidgen of situational awareness would think, if not say, "It may not be necessary, but as president I think it would be best if I set a good example, not only for all of the cameras but also for the workers and staff here at the plant."

As Trump was touring the face mask factory, the sound system of the factory played “Live And Let Die”.

Seriously.

That’s awesome. If it was intentional that’s as good as the (subsequently fired) guy at Wrigley Field who played “Smack my Bitch Up” while Aroldis Chapman warmed up on the pitchers mound.

Only half. It's McConnell and The Federalist Society. The latter do the nominatin, the former rams them through.
It's been noted more than once, that it speaks volumes that the one area trump has had most success, is the one he is the least involved in. He basically rubberstamps whomever the Federalist Society proposes, and Moscow Mitch takes over from there.

Backstage?

The POTUS described part of the Honeywell manufacturing plant as backstage.

We are so ******.

Just now, President @realDonaldTrump welcomed incredible healthcare warriors to the Oval Office in honor of National Nurses Day!

(accompanied by video clip of people clustered together wearing medical gear but no masks)

President Trump told reporters on Wednesday that the coronavirus pandemic, which has led to the death of tens of thousands of people in the United States in recent months, is worse “than Pearl Harbor” and the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.

In remarks in the Oval Office, Trump referred to the ongoing crisis as “the worst attack we've ever had.”

“We went through the worst attack we've ever had in our country. This is really the worst attack we've ever had. This is worse than Pearl Harbor. This is worse than the World Trade Center. There's never been an attack like this,”

One of the nurses being 'honoured' told reporters "PPE has been sporadic, but it's been manageable. And we do what we have to do. We are nurses and we learn to adapt and do whatever we can do for our patients to get the job done and the care provided, and that's what we will continue to do as Covid-19 continues."

Trump disputed this
"Sporadic for you but not sporadic for a lot of other people. Because I've heard the opposite,. I have heard that they are loaded up with gallons now. We had empty shelves and empty nothing because it wasn't put there by the last administration."

As a general concept, I'd probably be in favor of an agreement such as this.

But of course, Trump has spent so long ******** on every major agreement that the US has, that, as you say, I wouldn't trust him further than I could throw him.

Were President Biden to suggest this next February, I'd hear him out.

This brings up a good question: Has Trump actually negotiated any new treaties or agreements yet? I don't mean throwing a tantrum and demanding changes to existing agreements like NAFTA, or just pulling out of agreements, like the Iran deal or the SALT treaty. I'm talking about something like this propose treaty. A whole new idea, built from the ground up, getting agreement from international partners who aren't otherwise compelled to deal with Trump, as Canada and Mexico were with NAFTA.

He had his little tete-a-tete with Kim Jong-Un, that resulted in a nice love letter that had no actual effect. Was there anything more substantial than that?

It's bad enough he basically told that nurse to **** off with her first-hand experience, but damn, could he at least have told her to **** off coherently?!?

And then there's this:

Is anyone else worried about him calling this an "attack", over and over again? They really do sound like they're setting this up to claim it was deliberate, as an excuse to blame it all on China.

Part of the 'War President' image he is trying to create

I think it's starting to go beyond that. Not just calling it an attack, but comparing it to two other attacks that actually led to the US getting into major wars that destroyed the countries that were responsible for the attack. Add in the other things he's said about having evidence that this virus came from a lab, and it's starting to sound ominous to me.

We know his idiot followers believe whatever reality he creates for them, and it really looks like he's working on "China did this on purpose".

This kind of claim is BS on two levels.
First is obvious - blaming someone else for his own failures, as usual.
Second is even worse - lets assume this claim is true. That means Trump did nothing to fix that situation. He had 3,5 years to do that.

In any normal company manager blaming his predecessor that quit years ago would be fired.

He needs someone else to blame, otherwise all eyes are on him. He needs to draw everyone's attention onto someone/something else. If everyone is too busy being mad at China, they won't notice that they're no longer mad at him.

But it's a dangerous game. That "Mad at China" distraction could lead to a dangerous mob mentality of "Get China" from his low IQ voting base (read: all of his voting base)... with warhawks like Tom Cotton whispering sweet nothings in his ear about how fruitful and glorious a war could be for his popularity ratings.

Trump knows he'd be the very bestest war president ever. He just needs the opportunity to show the whole world what he already knows, dammit!
