On May 14, 1991, "Nissan Computer Corp" was incorporated in the state of North Carolina. I was then, and still am, the company President. I have used Nissan as part of my trade name in connection with the sale of computer hardware, computer maintenance, networking, computer training and other consulting services related to computers. On June 4, 1994, I registered the domain name "nissan.com" and created a web site to promote computer related products and services on the Internet.
In July of 1995, I obtained a service mark registration for Nissan and my logo from the State of North Carolina.

On March 17, 1996, I registered the domain name "nissan.net" , and began offering Internet services, including dial-up connections and direct data connections to business.
In another example of Nissan Motor's flexing its corporate might, age old eminent domain laws have been rewritten in Mississippi allowing the State to take land and homes from local landowners for the sole private benefit of Nissan Motor. How the State of Mississippi was "convinced" to change these laws is unclear, but it is clear that local individuals are being deprived of their property rights so Nissan Motor can build its own plant.

UPDATES
DECEMBER - 1999, Initial Filing.
More then five years after I registered nissan.com, legal action was instituted by Nissan Motor seeking $10,000,000 in damages, and to restrain me from the use of MY family name for business purposes on the Internet.
Uzi Nissan
In 1980, Uzi Nissan founded Nissan Foreign Car, an automobile service, in Raleigh, North Carolina.[9][10] In 1987, Uzi Nissan founded Nissan International, Ltd, an import/export company that traded primarily in heavy equipment and computers.[11] On 14 May 1991, Uzi Nissan founded Nissan Computer Corporation, which provides sales and service of personal computers, servers, and computer parts, as well as internet hosting and development. Nissan Computer registered nissan.com for its use on 4 June 1994, five years prior to Nissan Motor Corporation's interest in the domain.[10][2]
Case

This section needs expansion. You can help by adding to it. (May 2016)
Nissan Motors considered Nissan Computer's use of the name to be trademark dilution, and laid claim to the domain by alleging cyber squatting. However, Nissan Computer was named after its owner, Uzi Nissan.[12][13][14] Following the outcome of the case, Nissan Motors uses the name nissanusa.com for its U.S. website.[15]
I didn't.
Go to Nissan.com and find out about this poor bloke who, in 1994, registered nissan.com for his business on the reasonable basis that his name was Mr Nissan. So, in 1999, they sued him. A lot.
Or you can read about it here, at this jalopnik article.
Maintaining a URL that you could very easily sell to a major corporation for a hefty sum of money just to maintain what amounts to a spite fan account, as in he's not actually using the site to promote his computer business in any real sense of the term, the site is all about evil Nissan trying to take his site, seems rather pointless to me.
//Eta. I've seen the site in question in the past and was aware of the drama, but can't get to it now either on my phone or PC, so maybe the situation has changed.
Why should I care?
Think of the children.
With a potential meat shortage imminent I think we're all thinking of the children.
No food, no water. After a month, we ate the weak. *Starts crying* You know what I hate about myself? I know what people taste like. I know that babies taste best.
www.nissan.com doesn't work for me.
My recollection is that he was never offered a hefty sum of money.
I doubt babies would taste best. Most animal meat humans consume is muscle. Babies have the least muscle of all. We should start with the gym bros.
I'd be rather shocked if no offer was ever made. Even giant multinational corporations don't leap straight to huge lawsuits that they know they are going to win without making an offer under the table beforehand.
What's the motivation for Nissan (the car company) to jump straight to pure vindictiveness? They justed wanted the URL.
https://www.digest.com/Big_Story.phpSEPTEMBER - 2007, Ruling.
The court has issued a Ruling (PDF) addressing NMC's alleged claims in our favor:
1. Found that Nissan Computer did not Dilute NMC's mark.
2. Denied NMC's requests for Permanent Injunctions.
We are still waiting for the court to issue a final judgment.
JANUARY - 2008, Motion For Attorneys' Fees.
Nissan Motor has been unrelenting in its lawsuit against us and despite that they lost; they subsequently filed a motion asking the court to award them millions of dollars in attorneys' fees.
FEBRUARY - 2008, Ruling on Attorneys' Fees and Final Judgment.
The court has issued a Ruling (PDF) addressing these remaining issues:
1. Nissan Motor is NOT entitled to attorneys' fees.
2. Nissan Computer is entitled to cost under rule 68.
The court ordered NMC to pay $58,000 as cost under rule 68, this is less than 2% of what the cost was to defend this case.
