Trump’s allies sound alarm over his attacks on independent watchdogs

GOP senators have stepped up their public rebukes of the president as they try to convince him that independent government watchdogs are his friends, not his enemies.

Why on earth do they think Trump will be receptive to that message? Independent watchdogs are *not* his friends, pretty much by definition, and GOP senators have been telling him through by their own actions that they agree with him. It makes me wonder why they are even bothering to tell him otherwise. They created this monster, why not just own it?

I also ordered 36 rolls of Chinese TP off Amazon about 6 weeks ago. Estimated delivery is the middle to end of May. Since I can get TP with no problem now, I'm going to store the Chinese TP in the attic just in case there's another wave this fall and another lockdown.

Mine shipped pretty much immediately, did the standard slow boat two weeks and then just zoomed up from the LA area in record time. Like I said... truck shipments right now are just zipping along (I'm in a delivery "dead zone" so I've spent alot of time tracking packages. Even had a couple Int'l trackers bookmarked for a while.).
Some of the guys here know OTR truckers who are making book on the I5 corridor because there're no "rush hour" delays right now.

US President Donald Trump has said China "will do anything they can" to make him lose his re-election bid, stepping up his criticism of Beijing amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In a White House interview with Reuters news agency, he said Beijing faced a "lot" of possible consequence from the US for the outbreak.

He said China should have let the world know about the contagion much sooner.

Mr Trump, who has waged a trade war with China, offered no specifics about how he might act against Beijing.

He told Reuters: "There are many things I can do. We're looking for what happened. China will do anything they can to have me lose this race."

The Republican president said he believes Beijing wants his likely Democratic challenger Joe Biden to win in November's election.

At this point, it's performance art, aimed at the voters.

Those in the GOP who are merely monsters, and not just complete idiots, have to know that their whole program is at odds with the preferences of the electorate. They know they lost the popular vote last go round, and they can see that they're losing the public opinion on the pandemic response - something like almost 80% of the population disagrees with the push to re-open too soon, which is an insanely high number when you consider how polarized the US has otherwise been for the last decade or so. They also have problems with their economic plans, where lots of regular voters are finally seeing that bailing out big industries and rich people always take precedence over helping average people.

So they need to start distancing themselves from this mess. The plan appears to be to try to put it all on Trump, and walk away whistling, hoping that enough voters will be fooled into thinking that the rest of the GOP elected officials weren't equally at fault for this whole mess.
