The Trump Presidency: Part 21

The new GOP talking point is "The Chinese Communist Leaders made a conscious choice to hide the truth about the virus".
Yeah, that sort of falls apart when you consider two things:

1) China is on the other side of the planet from the USA. That virus sure can swim!

2) The Chinese Communist Party doesn't live in, work in, or govern the USA. US Republicans do. So who failed to do their job?

Trump Tweets

Why should the people and taxpayers of America be bailing out poorly run states (like Illinois, as example) and cities, in all cases Democrat run and managed, when most of the other states are not looking for bailout help? I am open to discussing anything, but just asking?

Never mind the fact that red states tend to be bigger recipients of federal funding on a regular (annual) basis.

And never mind that a recent examination of Covid-19 relief for small businesses when disproportionately to red states.

And never mind the fact that Red states have often received substantial aid following other disasters (such as Texas after Hurricane Harvey).
Rick Scott from Florida had a similar question-
It’s not fair to the taxpayers of Florida. We sit here, we live within our means, and then New York, Illinois, California and other states don’t. And we’re supposed to go bail them out? That’s not right.

My question would be- when hurricane season comes along, are Trump and Scott going to think that's a fair question to ask if (when) Florida gets hit? If having a federal government means anything, it should mean not having to ask these sort of question at all during a time of crisis, whether it's a pandemic or a storm creating it.

Trump's tweets are outright lies. The truth is diametrically opposite - the richer states like New York and California have been bailing out the poorer ones like Florida for a long time. Bottom-feeders like McConnell have seen to that. But in Bizarro TrumpWorld, that sort of bald-faced lying is BAU.

Again he falsely claims he brought in billions of dollars in Chinese tariffs.

He "can't imagine" why there would have been a spike if people using disinfectants last week after his remarks. He moved on very quickly. You could tell he didn't want to talk about it.

"You all know what happened in 1917. That's over 100 years ago."

"I think you will see a lot of schools open up, even for a short period of time ... in terms of what this vicious virus goes after, young people seem to do very well."

"Nancy Pelosi was dancing in the streets in Chinatown. She wanted to go out and party."

"If you look, prior to this virus, the deficit was coming down under my administration."

Trump on his call today with governors: "These were not complaining people. These were people that were -- they had everything they needed. They have their ventilators. They have their testing."

"There are some people, they are not allowed to open up their store. They're going to lose their livelihood. By the way, that causes death also"

Are we supposed to pick which one of these impossibly ridiculous remarks he actually made? I can't believe the 1917 one, he couldn't do the math and get so close.

Not only did he say he can't imagine why, he also said he takes no responsibility for it.

"If I weren't president, you'd have been ...if I weren't president you'd have been at war with N Korea if wasn't president. That I can tell you."

Depends on what you mean by "coming down"- if you meant "getting deeper," then...yeah.

FDR: We have nothing to fear but fear itself.

Truman: The buck stops here.

JFK: Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.

LBJ: Yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow is ours to win or lose.

Bill Clinton: If you live long enough, you'll make mistakes. But if you learn from them, you'll be a better person. It's how you handle adversity, not how it affects you. The main thing is never quit, never quit, never quit.

Obama: Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.

Trump: I take no responsibility.

Trump was given multiple warnings about pandemic in January and February in the President's Daily Brief, the most confidential intelligence document in the government. But he didn't read it or didn't care.
U.S. intelligence agencies issued warnings about the novel coronavirus in more than a dozen classified briefings prepared for President Trump in January and February, months during which he continued to play down the threat, according to current and former U.S. officials.

The repeated warnings were conveyed in issues of the President’s Daily Brief, a sensitive report that is produced before dawn each day and designed to call the president’s attention to the most significant global developments and security threats.

For weeks, the PDB — as the report is known — traced the virus’s spread around the globe, made clear that China was suppressing information about the contagion’s transmissibility and lethal toll, and raised the prospect of dire political and economic consequences.

But the alarms appear to have failed to register with the president, who routinely skips reading the PDB and has at times shown little patience for even the oral summary he takes two or three times per week, according to the officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss classified material.

I have a question about that...

Isn't there some law about destroying records of government communications?

I believe the official motto of the Trump Administration is “Yeah, So, what are you going to do about?”
