eta2 If I'm allowed to ask just one OT question, what on Earth did Jimmy Carter do towards the end of his presidency to make his popularity plummet all the way down to 20%?

Pretty much just be Jimmy Carter.

Well, that and the Iranian Hostage Crisis, I suppose.

Iranian hostage crisis was mentioned previously. It didn't help that election day was the one year anniversary of the hostages being taken.

Also that year there was the Russian invasion of Afghanistan and the highest levels of inflation ever seen in American history (although I'm afraid that record will be broken).

ETA: I looked it up. Apparently, there were also big inflation spikes after WWI and WWII, and a couple of times in early American history, but still, inflation was very, very, bad.

I'm colorblind. The lines in the big graph appear to be the same color. The lines in every other graph are different, I'm guessing red and green?

Virtually every graph in which there are more than 2 candidates is unreadable to me, as they make zero effort to pick colors that could be differentiated if you don't have full spectrum vision (brighter colors vs dimmer colors, light or dark, use dashes, dots, or stripes to make differences, etc)

I'm with you. The absolute worst is red text on black background.

And Microsoft should be sued for deciding cyan was the right default color for text on a white background.

Back in my ancient student programming days I once wrote a set of ASP pages that would punish the user for doing things wrong: it would switch the text and background to increasingly horrible color combinations. Pink text on red background, acid green text on yellow, etc. That was horrible even in 1990s monitors, can you imagine a full screen of that with today's big monitors?

Not to mention the failed hostage rescue mission (Operation Eagle Claw) which took place right around the time of his big popularity drop. (I don't think it was the cause of the drop, but it probably made it harder to recover.)

Maybe it has something to do with their polling methods.. . they make more use of land-lines than other polling organizations, which might mean older people are more represented (compared to younger people who rely on cell phones). But older people seem to be turning on Trump. (Trump's response to Covid-19 might be turning some of them against him, and now that the Democrats have their own old guy as the candidate, some voters might want to switch from the Republican old white man to the Democratic old white man.)

Quite possible. Every polling company has a number of variables that they tweak in order to turn raw data into a somewhat accurate number. Whoever does it the best becomes a reliable pollster.

....

Am I the only one picturing press releases that will look like:

President Donald Trump
presents
The Blue Angels.

Green and orange, but I believe you can toggle it to only show approval, or only disapproval.

eta

No, though that confused me too at first. The black in the small graphs is that president's approval rating. The green is Trump's approval rating, for comparison. Notice how the green line is the same in every one of the small graphs. Hovering your mouse over them shows you a legend that tells you what the colours mean as well as exact numbers for each date.

Oh, thanks for that. Now I'll have to look again.
So I did. I found it more interesting to click on eight years to see full terms of other presidents.
I'd have said "inflation" for Carter, but certainly Iran played a part.

Trump asks if he can inject people with disinfectant to get rid of coronavirus.
Almost a cleaning, in people's bodies to fight the coronavirus. It would be interesting to check that. The whole concept of the light. That's pretty powerful.

CNN have just announced to the world to not inject themselves with disinfectant or anything. They actually had to say that because there are possibly people watching who would listen to the President and do it.

What a ********.

Unfortunately, the idiots stupid enough to do that are not watching CNN.

FoxNews is the ones who need to make that PSA

Have you tried EnChroma color blind correcting glasses?

You have a cruel streak in you. It's one of your good points.

Wut.

No way. Even Trump isn't that stupid.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...ctant-bleach-treatment-sunlight-a9481291.html

Donald Trump, a businessman by training and trade, floated more trial medical trial balloons on Thursday night – repeatedly suggesting disinfectant be injected into the bodies of humans to cure coronavirus patients while doubling down on his claims that sunlight kills the deadly virus.

"I see the disinfectant that knocks it out in a minute, one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning," the president said during his daily Covid-19 briefing. A senior health official, under questioning from reporters, later said federal laboratories are not considering or trying to develop such a treatment option.

Unless of course Trump writes the press release, in which case Trump will present the Blue Angles.
He will also brag about how he personally piloted the lead plane, impressive everyone with his yuge skills, and downing five Chinese MiGs  .
