The Trump Presidency: Part 21

I haven't been paying much attention to the news today -- I try not to watch the news but it is all over the nightly newscasts -- and apparently Trump is trying to rally people to defy state orders to remain shut down and... What? Take to the streets? Already the Texas governor is saying Texas is going to reopen.

This really seems like... I don't even have words. I have never seen anything like this before. I could never have imagined something like this before.
Florida, after taking a long time to even start closing, is reopening some beaches starting tonight.

This situation has turned from a medical problem into an ideological one. Expect the next huge spike in infections by next Friday at the latest.

And that will be the Dems' fault, too!

People are going to die, and somehow it will be all the Democrats fault.

People will die and the Democrats will be "dramatic" which is somehow worse.

That's the excuse the Trump supporters have all up and decided to fall back on.

"But the Left is being dramatic" is sin worth sacrificing the country to stop.

Don't ask me to explain it, but that's where we're at.

I also suspect that since Democrats/liberals tend to live in the metropolitan areas, that the GoP/conservatives hope that only Democrats will die.

True. Ever notice the lack of assault rifles and other guns at 'leftie' protests?
But this is what Trump advocates:

Another of my predictions coming home to roost.

It was a very early page of the original thread that I suggested Americans would head for their guns in a lockdown.

And thus it came to pass.

They look like fine people. Very fine people.

Trump says
“we wanted to err on the side of caution - this is what the governors wanted”.
“We did a spectacular job,”

“I think I’d rather tell you that we were over-prepared, than we were under-prepared"

Trump's "LIBERATE VIRGINIA, and save your great 2nd Amendment. It is under siege!" tweet is aimed at the state which passed a ban of guns in the Capitol building and temporarily banned guns form the Capitol grounds, too. This was done because of the Guns Right rally that is planned for next week where over 5,000 are expected to attend. There will be counter-protesters there, too, which sparked fears of violence. Banning guns on the grounds in an attempt to keep gun violence from erupting during the rally.

Ironically, no guns are allowed on the US Capitol grounds by federal law.

This is just another example of Trump's idiocy and why he is a danger.

This could get very nasty. Seems like Trump may have decided to embrace the protests. From New York magazine yesterday:
[C]onservative groups, meanwhile, are pushing for the White House and GOP lawmakers to push back against health professionals who have urged more caution. The outside effort from conservative groups is expected to be led by Stephen Moore, a conservative at the Heritage Foundation who is close with White House economic officials; Jenny Beth Martin, co-founder of the Tea Party Patriots; Adam Brandon, president of FreedomWorks, a conservative advocacy organization; and Lisa Nelson, chief executive of the American Legislative Exchange Council, a conservative organization with ties to the Koch brothers, according to the three people, who were granted anonymity to reveal details of an effort that had not been publicly revealed.

The fact that someone so close to the White House is in the middle of a cabal to organize protests against lockdown guidelines encouraged by the president’s public-health advisers and endorsed (however tardily and grudgingly) by POTUS himself is instructive, as are the MAGA hats and pro-Trump emblems of so many protesters. The president is notoriously chafing against public-health constraints on “reopening” the economy, which he desperately needs in order to reclaim his reelection mojo. At this point it’s unclear whether Trump will try to quash the kind of protests we are seeing this week, or decide to begin leading them and directing their ire at his Democratic and media enemies (plus the occasional RINO). If Trump loses in November, it is likely that USA will be on brink of civil war.

I do not except wanna-be far-right authoritarian party with anti-human agenda (global warming denial alone is enough for me to judge rethuglicans as such) and with long history of anti-democratic practices (like for example vote suppression) to take it or respect it very well.

Trump himself will scream about faked elections and call to "liberate" country, adding oil to fire and all but inciting civil war.

USA rot for decades, and now we are getting fruits of that labor. Expected and desired result is, obviously, right-wing Republican dictatorship pretending to be democracy*, most likely something in style of Putin's biggest banana republic in world.

And it is inevitable. If not this year, then in next four. Or eight. Or however long it takes to rot USA sufficiently for this kind of revolution. I see no way to stop it.
Electing Democrats will at best slow it down, at worst ironically hasten it further since value and trust in results of elections are eroding thanks to far-rightwing propaganda and conspiracy theories.

I can only hope they will be beaten again, like in previous civil war or in second world war. I already lost hope this whole **** will hit fan after my death.

* Taking aside that USA never were actual democracy in first place - Electoral College ensures it is at best pseudo-democracy.

I like that protest sign: STOP THE FEAR END THE Lockdown. Or as the protester wrote it
STOP THE FEAR END THE Lockdown

Okay, advance planning is not his strong suit. Best way to stop fear of contagion? Pretend it's gone. Okay, rational thinking is not his strong suit, either.

A portal to the Bizarro Universe has opened and the bat-**** crazy is pouring through.

Man, and I have been accused of having a bleak outlook...
I have to ask:
Do you live in the USA? It's almost like you want this to happen....

It's also a revolt against science, frankly.
Make no mistake most of the protestors hate science because it does not agree with the book of Fairy Tales they believe in.
