The "Smart people are the enemy" message becomes less subtext and more the text the longer Trump stays in power.

We really are in the middle of an-intellectual uprising right now.

Having been involved in the negotiations, to put it mildly, the number that OPEC+ is looking to cut is 20 Million Barrels a day, not the 10 Million that is generally being reported. If anything near this happens, and the World gets back to business from the Covid 19.....

....disaster, the Energy Industry will be strong again, far faster than currently anticipated. Thank you to all of those who worked with me on getting this very big business back on track, in particular Russia and Saudi Arabia.

The US is going to pay Mexico to cut production in order to get higher gas prices.

I'm not kidding, this is the "deal" they made.

He went from "Mexico is going to pay for the wall" to "We are going to pay Mexico to not make oil"
 
I don't doubt for a second that China's number are near 100% B.S. and that their numbers are probably a lot higher. And this is probably true for some other countries as well.

That doesn't for a second excuse America's numbers being as high as they are.

These are not contradictory statements.
 
The right-wing press is reporting that Dr. Fauci appeared on Newsmax on January 21 and said the American public need not worry.

In the clip, Dr. Fauci responds to a couple of questions, but never mentions COVID-19 by name.

Snopes doesn’t have anything on it. What can I do to determine if Dr. Fauci said this about COVID or if Newsmax constructed a false narrative?

One of the replies to the twitter says it is old footage from the Ebola outbreak.

For the purpose of creating conflict and confusion, some in the Fake News Media are saying that it is the Governors decision to open up the states, not that of the President of the United States & the Federal Government. Let it be fully understood that this is incorrect....

....It is the decision of the President, and for many good reasons. With that being said, the Administration and I are working closely with the Governors, and this will continue. A decision by me, in conjunction with the Governors and input from others, will be made shortly!
 
Yep, he didn't like that Fauci said a truthful thing about how if Trump too appropriate actions earlier, we'd be in a much better place.

Once again, Trump is not the cause, just a symptom. This has been the essence of Republicanism for decades, ever since their embrace of the Christian right. They despise science and education.

What on earth is your point? Would you make the same claim about heart attacks, strokes and traffic accidents? Is anybody saying that covid is the only cause of death? And what makes you think that climate change is not related to the spread of pandemic diseases?

I don't think all of those 30% are in Trump's base. I've heard it expressed from people who aren't.

I think it's more just a reflection of overall ignorance, which can be found in people of all political persuasions, although it might be more prevalent in some than in others.

When presented with a poll, people hate saying, "I have no idea", so they pick an answer. That isn't even what they necessarily actually believe. They just pick one that sounds right, and if you've had a diet of news stories about the threat of biological weapons, and tv shows or other works of fiction describing biological weapons, then that particular "explanation" is in the front of your head. They have no information to contradict the theory, so it's perfectly plausible.

If I were talking to one of those people, I wouldn't be able to give them information to prove them wrong, so why shouldn't they believe it? I don't believe it myself, but if asked to justify that belief, all I could say is, "Well, it just sounds like a conspiracy theory, and those are always wrong."

Only for some definition of "trouble".

He's an old man with a secure pension. If he loses his job, it's not the end of the world for him.

Moreover, he doesn't seem to mind media attention. He kind of likes it. If he gets canned by Trump, he'll have more freedom to talk to the media. I think that's the thing that makes him less likely to be fired. I think if he is fired, he will gladly give interviews saying what he thinks. I doubt that's something Trump would be looking forward to.

I don't think Trump views that the same way you do. Fauci is already becoming a target for the right. If Trump fires him and Fauci speaks out, it will give Trump an event to distract from the ronas. I believe he would welcome the opportunity to flip the script, and then Trump would scapegoat the ever living **** out of him. His followers would soak it up, Trump would change the narrative, and we'd be back to the beginning.
