The Trump Presidency: Part 20

Dubya, rambling or not, at least tried to conform to the traditionally accepted model of president.

GWB, while ineloquent, at least visited a mosque after 9-11 to say that the US was not at war with Islam as a whole, and to tell everyone to not be biased against the average muslim walking around going about their business.

If you catch me off guard, I'll bumble my words too - I have a minor language disability. But in that, at least, he did well. Put aside Iraq, put aside Tora Bora, GWB was a strong voice against overt bigotry at least. He'd likely have been far better had it not been for many of the people around him - Cheney, Rumsfeld, and so forth, who manipulated info. Even Katrina was also a local and state failure, as well as a federal one.

Dolt 45 was destined for absolute catastrophe.

Personally I think you're being rather too kind to George W Bush but you're right that he wasn't an overt bigot and I'd add that he gave every impression of respecting the Office of President of the United States of America even though IMO he was a pretty bad one.

Bush2 did something I didn't think possible. He made me wistful for Bush1, Dole, and other Republicans I previously held in extremely low esteem.

Trump did something far, far more improbable. He made me wistful for Bush2.

The Iraq War was unnecessary and incompetently prosecuted.

COVID-19's federal response has been incompetent, but it was never much of a choice. Also, because Trump possesses more loathsome personal traits, he hasn't been able to fool as many for as long.

There are numerous reports that the White House not only ignored warnings about the seriousness of this coronovirus, but rejected preparation for possible pandemics. It's inconceivable that any Democratic president would have said "It's all gonna disappear, like a miracle." There was a choice.

There was no choice to avoid the situation entirely, like there was with the Iraq War. Acting competently and listening to actual experts is a choice Trump always has, but never takes.

He rescues them from death and keeps them alive in times of famine.
We put our hope in the LORD. He is our help and our shield. "

Where do you go when the storms of life are greater than what you can endure and when the winds and the waves are crushing your dreams? You go to the one whom the winds and waves obey. His name is Jesus.

“And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.”

What I hear from Trump is "We have to get back to work!"

What I don't hear is, "Here is our plan to get back to work."

On a related note, I hear "We are doing a fantastic job on getting tests! Look at how many tests we are putting out!"

What I don't hear is, "Here are the number of tests we want, and here's how we are going to get them."

(Repeat the above for masks, or ventilators, or toilet paper.)

.@KSoltisAnderson said "the president has an enormous amount of power" and it's "very important for the president to have a clear message for the people." Any mixed messages could result in loss of credibility during a national crisis. #MediaBuzz

@gayletrotter said "President Trump disrupts the media narrative so CNN and MSNBC don't want to cover it live and straight without commentary," when in reality the President is winning at these briefings by taking "gotcha" questions and giving a forceful response. #MediaBuzz

@gayletrotter said "the establishment media have not admitted that they were wrong and the president was right" for banning travel from China. "The media called him xenophobic" and continue to deny the president credit for positive actions. #MediaBuzz

Queen Elizabeth II has recorded a special broadcast to the U.K. The televised address will be broadcast Sunday at 8 p.m. local time.
It will be just the fourth time in the queen's 68-year reign that she has delivered a special address to the nation. https://abcn.ws/2R6S3KX

Thank you to everyone who is saving lives by staying at home this weekend.
I know it's tough, but if we all work together and follow the guidance we will beat #coronavirus.

Pelosi has pointed out this before in other of Trump's dealings: That's a goal, not a plan.

As the "boss" he's never had to actually come up with a plan of his own. He can just order people to get it done, and let them come up with a solution (interestingly, Ross Perot was the same way, if you listened to his "plans" for solving the problems he was bitching about, they were "get people in the room and solve it.") It's not leadership, it's bossing people around.
