Should we fear Bernie?

In the south, it's everyone who got the **** kicked out of them for walking across the Edmund Pettus Bridge. That goes a long way to explaining why Sanders did poorly with Black voters in the South.

I assume you mean *not* walking along the bridge...if you aren't willing to even walk near John Lewis there, that's a severe mistake.

In all seriousness, can someone explain who the Democratic Party establishment is? I mean, what are their names, what powers/controls to they have, and what actions have they actually taken to keep Sanders from winning the nomination?

Every time I see it brought up, it seems to be taken for granted that this person or body of people is a known thing and their actions are obvious.

Like Craig said - and as I said previously, John Lewis is a living legend. He's the only living speaker from the March on Washington. You pretty much need his invitation, and to march with him.

If you don't even try...well, even I think far less of you, and you'll be killed in the South. And yet, that's what Sanders did, *again*.

Sorry, I don't understand this: What is what Sanders did?

"I was responding to a reporter’s question who asked me to assess Sen. Sanders’ civil rights record. I said that when I was leading and was at the center of pivotal actions within the Civil Rights Movement, I did not meet Sen. Bernie Sanders at any time," Lewis said in the statement.
"The fact that I did not meet him in the movement does not mean I doubted that Sen. Sanders participated in the Civil Rights Movement, neither was I attempting to disparage his activism," he added. "Thousands sacrificed in the 1960s whose names we will never know, and I have always given honor to their contribution.

It should be clear that Bernie lost in the south to a degree that makes his nomination mathematically implausible four years after he lost in the south to a degree that made his nomination mathematically implausible.

The lesson from 2016 was that he had a lot to learn and a lot of work to do in the south if he was serious about winning the nomination. The lesson from 2020 is that he didn't and by helping crowd out most of the field he is as responsible for the worst Democratic nominee since Hubert Humphrey as anyone else.

For anybody who says Bernie didn't do enough to get black voters (particularly the old ones) to vote for him: I am curious what exactly you would say he should have done.

Is this a strategy question, or is it your contention, then, that he did what he could to get their support and they just won't support him?

I'm sure he's done nothing specific to going after any particular demographic group. I also don't know how one WOULD do that. (Especially not if one wants to avoid "pandering".)

In answer to the OP, I fear Bernie now more than ever. He has a dedicated following who are actively striving to make Biden look just as bad as Trump, so as to free themselves from having to make an unpalatable moral decision.

What he should not have done is criticize the "Democratic Party Establishment" in the South. The Democratic Party Establishment in the South paved the way for the Civil Right Act and Voting Rights Act by getting attacked by police dogs, assaulted with water cannons, and beaten with police batons. The road to their assuming the mantle of the Democratic Establishment is watered with blood and the occasional dead body.

Simply put, when you spend more time trying to win over Joe Rogan than you do John Lewis, you're making a major mistake - Rogan immediately said he'd rather vote for Dolt 45 than Biden, which shows his political foolishness, and he's (fairly or not) seen as hostile to thee average black guy (I think he's more politically ignorant than anything else, but that's me) And When you have a rally at, say, Howard University, take a photo showing an almost entirely white audience, and then that's the end of your outreach, you've simply failed to make any serious outreach at all.

This is the exact same set of mistakes he made four years ago, as well, so he should have begun outreach efforts right after Dolt 45 won - join the dems, but as an outsider, and stayed there, march with John Lewis, etc. I suppose appearing on the Breakfast club would count, much as I hate that show...there's still Roland Martin, Steve Harvey, Tom Joyner when he was still on the air, and so forth.

But nope. Literal and virtual radio silence. Long and the short, people either had no idea who he was, or were annoyed by his refusal to permanently join the dems.

Are you sure they are Bernie supporters or could they be Russian trolls pretending to be Bernie supporters?

We have Sanders supporters on this board who plainly state that civil rights don't matter. I don't know how common this is among that group, but it's definitely a turn-off for all the people who are still fighting for their own civil rights and counting on the Democratic Party to help them against the Republicans.

My experience is similar to d4m10n's. I know some of these people personally, and others are meat-space friends of my friends.

Perhaps this is just a temporary grieving process to them, but last election it wasn't just a blip. I expect this time it will last until the general election again, being stirred up by Republican trolls and Russian trolls alike.

I'm basically getting the same thing. This is why I should have left off the "Today" part of this post:

Today, I fear Bernie's supporters.
The privilege and self-righteousness is just oozing off those posts.
