The Trump Presidency: Part 20

At the moment, here in the US... it looks like the military assistance - hospital ships and tent hospitals - are being limited to helping people who do not have coronavirus. That means that only those who test negative might be transferred to them.

In practice, that means that, as of last check, they were helping about 15 people total for the NYC situation. That number should grow a bit as testing continues to ramp up, but... *sigh*

Only 15!!! people in hospitals for non-virus reasons? That don't compute.

I always thought that Trump was jealous of Jared for his relationship with Ivanka.
I'm starting to think that Ivanka is jealous of Trump for his relationship with her husband.

Idle speculation: How did that marriage come about? Was in semi-arranged. I don't see Jared rising above all the competition there must have been her hand .... and other parts.

I think the plan made logical sense... the ship had decent medical facilities but was limited in its ability to isolate patients, and it would be a problem for Covid-19 to circulate on-board the ship under those circumstances.

The problem is the back-log in testing people to ensure they test negative for the virus.

They seem to have changed their procedures... they now will check for temperature and question patients for risk factors. (I hope that's enough, and you don't see any covid-19 patients slip through.)

Yeah. I read an article today, too.

Basically, the idea was to use the ship as a safe spot away from the virus, so people, or at least 1000 of them, could be in a hospital without fear of contracting coronavirus. And the crew didn't need to follow COVID-19 protocols.

So, to be admitted, you first have to be tested for COVID-19, and the test has to come back negative. There are apparently other restrictions as well.

Finally, the ship was designed for wounded soldiers in a combat zone. It has bunks and cots, not usual hospital beds.

It makes for a great photo op, but apparently it is not the best hospital in civilian zones.

The crew is trying to get certain regualations waived so they won't be completely useless, as they are right now.

Citation Needed, but my wife was watching the afternoon presser. He said shelves were bare at the end of the last administration and the US military had no ammunition. Can someone verify? I value my brain cells too much to even look.[/URL].

He made the second half of that claim a while ago. It was one of his "Sir" stories. "Generals came up to me and said 'Sir, we don't have any bullets.""

I seriously doubt that the US military will run out of any basic ammunition any time in the next century. There's probably enough small arms ammo on a single destroyer to match a small country. And the US has plenty of destroyers and even bigger ships all armed to the gunwales at all times, not to mention all the units and squadrons of the other services which will also be stocked up all the time. There's so much ammo that the US could literally bury another small country with unfired rounds.

And then there's the civilian stockpile. Which, although probably not all military grade, would be a sizeable stockpile of firepower in and of itself.

So when Trumpy came up with another of his "Sir..." stories saying all the US military ammunition had run out, I laughed until I hiccuped. What an absolutely huge ******* lie.

The temporary military hospital facilities.

I think the plan made logical sense... the ship had decent medical facilities but was limited in its ability to isolate patients, and it would be a problem for Covid-19 to circulate on-board the ship under those circumstances.

And yeah. Since the beginning of all this, the Trump Administration's cardinal failing in practice has been with testing, to the point where almost all the rest (absurdly much as there is) pales in comparison to how bad the effects of such are. The overwhelming failure there has directly caused chain reactions of massive harm. If it weren't for that, the military hospital ship and ground hospitals would likely not even be needed and testing wouldn't be so backed up. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, after all.

The main rival there would be the sabotage preceding the pandemic, of course, when it comes to damage mitigation - around the world, really, because the earlier warning that some of what was sabotaged would likely have given would have helped the rest of the world prepare better, which would have paid for itself so very, very many times over.

They seem to have changed their procedures... they now will check for temperature and question patients for risk factors. (I hope that's enough, and you don't see any covid-19 patients slip through.)

Unfortunately, there probably will be some, especially given the amount of asymptomatic spreaders.

Trump said he will not wear a face mask.

He says could not see himself greeting "presidents, prime ministers, dictators, kings, queens" in the Oval Office while wearing one.

He the guidance was "voluntary".

You do not have to do it, I don't think I'm going to be doing it.

Oh but he seriously needs a mask. One like this would do the rest of the world a power of good.

The real reason he won't wear a face mask is that the mask is intended to protect other people. Trump doesn't give a **** about other people.

In the UK one of hospitals, one that is a centre of excellence for cancer treatment is only taking non-virus patients and cancer patients from other hospitals (Royal Marsden) the idea is to try and free up the other hospitals as much as possible to deal with the virus and to try and prevent the cancer patients being exposed to the virus whilst in hospital. It could be the idea is to use the military hospital in this way?

Basically, yes. These ships are to handle overflow, when COVID-19 people end up booting other people out of land hospitals.

3 million masks ordered by Massachusetts were confiscated in Port of New York, leading to creative alternative

Feds outbid blue states repeatedly, show incredible partiality in distribution of SNS, and now has outright stolen at least one large shipment to a blue state? Lock these ******* up!

Also, the Trump Administration has tread into very dangerous territory if they did indeed confiscate shipments from China to Germany and France on the basis that 3M is a US company.

"Berlin must to do without an urgently needed delivery of 200,000 medical protective masks because the USA has 'confiscated' the goods on their transit through Bangkok. Berlin's Senator of the Interior: "We consider this an act of modern piracy'."

Is not exactly something that any country's citizens should like seeing.
