The Trump Presidency: Part 20

Left to make a bacon sandwich, returned to Trump claiming cutting off Chinese traveling early on saved thousands of lives and that was evidence he saw it early and it's the governors' faults for not seeing the problem sooner. Asked about one governor declaring asymptomatic spread and his answer was, they can do whatever they want.

Can you imagine having this ******* Kushner imposed on FEMA planning meetings?

He's back on again claiming states are lying about not getting what they need.

He's repeating the lie N95s used in industry had to be approved to release them to hospitals. Are they lying on purpose or do they have no clue what NIOSH approval means? And why hasn't the press called them on this lie?

This is from yesterday, and there's something here that I just cannot wrap my mind around (assuming I'm interpreting Trump correctly, which is always iffy):
During Wednesday's coronavirus briefing, the Fox News White House correspondent John Roberts asked Vice President Mike Pence a series of pointed questions about the administration's decision this week not to temporarily reopen the Obamacare marketplace to allow uninsured Americans to purchase coverage during the pandemic.

"There will be people who don't have insurance who get sick before any of these mitigation efforts are put into place," Roberts said. "And without opening the healthcare exchanges, where can they find insurance? People who aren't insured by these companies that are covering the cost of the copays, where can people go, now, to get health insurance if they get — before they get sick?"

Pence dodged the question, apparently by praising the great job insurance companies are doing, even though the question was about people who don't have insurance- so Trump steps in:
He [Trump] said it "doesn't seem fair" that so many Americans can't afford to purchase insurance but don't qualify for Medicare or Medicaid — appearing to suggest those programs could be expanded to include more people.

"John, I think it's a very fair question though, and it's something we're really going to look at, because it doesn't seem fair," Trump said. "If you have it, you have a big advantage. And at a certain income level you do."

Here's the part that gets me:
Trump said he believed he would "get to" addressing the problem and accused "the other group," presumably Democrats, of ignoring it, though Democrats have long made healthcare a critical policy issue. Sen. Bernie Sanders has aggressively pushed "Medicare for All," while former Vice President Joe Biden has advocated a public option, also known as "Medicare for all who want it."

"I think we're going to get to it," Trump said. "I don't think the other group will get to it. They haven't even spoken about it."

Seriously? Is Trump so confident in his ability to re-write plain history (or his followers' willingness to let him) that he can really suggest that Democrats have never suggested some sort of program to address a lack of health insurance coverage for Americans who have none? Even if he just means that Democrats haven't said anything specific about it in the context of the Coronavirus pandemic- do they really need to? It's the same problem it has always been, just exacerbated; and to suggest that the "other group" won't "get to" addressing a problem they've had as a central policy theme for years, and "haven't even spoken about it"- that's just flabbergasting to me.

Welcome to Trumplandia where up is down, east is west, and there are 'alternate facts'.

Unbelievable. We are well and truly ******- even if Trump is defeated come November, just the fact that a guy who runs his part of the US Government like it's part of some weird "reality" show ("top ratings!" "I'm number one on Facebook!") can ever have had enough followers to get elected once, and a fair chance to be elected again, tells me that there is something seriously wrong in America.

I had to turn it off when it deteriorated to incompetrumpetty going on and on telling us his fantasy story of how things unfolded and how he saw things coming when no one else did...

The printer wanted those who would wear it to look even more stupid?

One leaning blue would.

Say hello to second civil war from me. I have sinking feeling it will happen before I am safely in grave (so less than 30-40 years).

You'll get no argument from me about that. It truly shocked me that anyone would vote for someone so devoid of any personal or professional decency, honesty, respect, or morality.

Press briefing: They put Kushner out there to lie about why incompetrumpetty saw to it his buddy governors got all the supplies they needed over other states.

And he claimed NY has what it needs, we'll see if Cuomo agrees. Kushner claimed they weren't going by "projected" needs because the numbers keep changing.

Now they have military doing the briefing. Probably makes incompetrumpetty feel more like a war POTUS.

One of the guys even said "This man behind me is a wartime President."

The Navy relieved the captain who sounded the alarm about an outbreak of COVID-19 aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt.

Honestly, this was entirely expectable when the news broke about how the military was supposed to keep silent about everything, unless the information is approved for release by the people on top. In large part because surprising Trump is bad.

In other news...

Georgia Republican says widespread vote by mail would be 'extremely devastating to Republicans'

State House Speaker David Ralston was absolutely blunt about his objection. “This will be extremely devastating to Republicans and conservatives in Georgia,” he said in an interview. “Every registered voter is going to get one of these. … This will certainly drive up turnout.”

Oh, the horror! People actually voting!

And... we've got a dinger of a Kushner quote, now.

JARED KUSHNER: "The notion of the federal stockpile was it's supposed to be our stockpile. It's not supposed to be states stockpiles that they then use."

*facepalm*

Trump Tweets

We hit 3M hard today after seeing what they were doing with their Masks. “P Act” all the way. Big surprise to many in government as to what they were doing - will have a big price to pay!

Everywhere else in the world is taking other measures to deal with COVID-19. But in the USA, it's ...get mor gunz! Huge rush on gun sales right now.

Please, somebody. Tell me there's a cogent reason why this is necessary! Donny? Are you making the other kids scared again?

My wife suggested they get some really teeny tiny bullets to shoot the virus.
