The Trump Presidency: Part 20

When he tries to act knowledgable, it's reminiscent of the Wizard talking to the Tin Man:
Back where I come from, there are men who do nothing all day but good deeds. They are called phila-, er, er, philanth-er, yes, er, good-deed doers...

I have to laugh at how many times Trump made reference to this being a 'war' today. He's trying so hard to be a 'war time president'.

I can't wait for the fact checking to begin.

Today's press conference was something...wow.

"This— whatever they want to call it. You can call it a germ, you can call it a flu, you can call it a virus. You can call it many different names. I'm not sure anybody even knows what it is."

As long as he ends up charged with treason and found guilty, I don't mind allowing him that title.

Trump just referred to the Governor of Michigan as "the woman in Michigan."

Speaking of them...

After Trump Attacks Whitmer, She Says Vendors Aren't Sending Desperately Needed Coronavirus Supplies
"They're being told not to send stuff to Michigan."

After President Donald Trump issued scathing comments about Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, saying she's "not stepping up," and "doesn't know what's going on," she told WWJ 950 the state is having trouble getting the equipment they need to fight the novel coronavirus.

"What I've gotten back is that vendors with whom we've procured contracts -- They're being told not to send stuff to Michigan," Whitmer said live on air. "It's really concerning, I reached out to the White House last night and asked for a phone call with the president, ironically at the time this stuff was going on."

The other stuff was Trump speaking with Sean Hannity on FOX News about Whitmer, a Democrat who has said very pointed things about the federal government's lack of coordinated response to the coronavirus crisis. Trump said of Whitmer, "She is a new governor, and it's not been pleasant ... "We've had a big problem with the young — a woman governor. You know who I'm talking about — from Michigan. We don't like to see the complaints."

Michigan's request for disaster assistance has not yet been approved by the White House, and Trump told Hannity he's still weighing it.

"She doesn't get it done, and we send her a lot. Now, she wants a declaration of emergency, and, you know, we'll have to make a decision on that. But Michigan is a very important state. I love the people of Michigan."

In her public addresses closing schools, bars and restaurants, and issuing a shelter in place order, Whitmer has complained about the federal's government lack of organization and state assistance, but she told WWJ she has never personally attacked the president.

"It's very distressing," she said about Trump's attack, noting that she was only one of several governors who noted "the federal preparation was concerning."

But she apparently struck a nerve with the president. And now the question is whether the leader of the free world could possibly take it out on medical professionals, patients and communities who desperately need help.

One might be tempted to think that Trump's misogyny is in play here.

In today's press briefing, Trump referred to the governor of Washington by name, while in the same sentence he referred to the governor of Illinois as "..that woman in Illinois"

Yeah, there is certainly some misogyny at play.

Fixed for accuracy.

Trump Tweets

We are marshalling the full power of government and society to achieve victory over the virus. Together, we will endure, we will prevail, and we will WIN! #CARESAct

But only the Republican side. (No Democrats were invited to this signing ceremony even though the decisions were overwhelmingly bipartisan.)

He can't speak without using the same few descriptive words over and over again. Tremendous, fantastic, and great are his staples.

Don't forget "incredible". Including the people who died. "Incredible people."

:sdl: Puts a new meaning to the doctors can't believe how much I know.

I am also reminded of, "Tide goes in, tide goes out, you can't explain that."

I'm unfortunate enough to have a co-worker at the hotel who reminds me a lot of Trump. Compulsive liar, very narcissistic, brags about himself all the time while putting down others who make mistakes, takes credit for others' work, makes up praise of himself when he doesn't get it from others, et cetera.

He also has some pretty questionable respect for women, so whenever he talks about a male colleague, he'll use his name, but he frequently forget the names of his female co-workers, and either way he tends to just refer to them as "she" or "her". Often I don't even know who he's talking about as he doesn't use their names.

I wonder if this dismissive way of talking about women is common in misogynist.

If I could stomach watching and listening to him speak, I would check out the press conferences he apparently does daily now, if only to look for signs of him deteriorating, and examples of him lying and misunderstanding things.

Edit: what happened at today's press conference?

In addition to what Bob001 said, the CDC (and others) have sophisticated propagation models that can pretty accurately predicted medical demands for all types of intervention modalities, including ventilators.

And I would like to see New York's. It would be nice to accept a claim once in awhile.

You wrote a lot of words when the answer to my question was, "no."
