The Trump Presidency: Part 20

The new cases line diverges from the new recovery line about 10 days before the latest date on the chart. Does it really take more than ten days for virtually everyone to recover from this?

If so, that freaks me out a bit.

The standard quarantine period is 14 days. So it might take that long after exposure for symptoms to develop. But the degree of illness and how long it takes to recover seem to vary enormously. And of course, some people don't recover at all.

@SBAgov

Wonder if he will go as far as the UK gov?

A couple of pages late, but Chanel Rion from OANN is, among other things, a Seth Rich conspiracy theorist.

Here's her question and Trump's reply (video in the link if you can stomach it):
“Mr. President, do you consider the term ‘Chinese food’ to be racist because it is food that originated from China?” Rion asked, preparing for another question about the media.

“I don’t think that’s racist at all,” Trump replied.

“On that note, major left-wing media, even in this room, have teamed up with Chinese communist party narratives, and they are claiming you are racist for making these claims about ‘Chinese virus,’” Rion continued. “Is it alarming that major media players, just to oppose you, are siding with foreign state propaganda, Islamic radicals, and Latin gangs and cartels and they work right here out of the White House with direct access to you and your team?”

“It amazes me when I read the things that I read,” Trump replied. "I don’t think anybody has done as much as I have done in three years."

"This administration has done a great job. But the press is very dishonest," the president added.

That second question has to win some kind of award for being the unbeatable toadiest question ever posed to a president.

Breaking story: GOP head of Senate Intellligence COmmitee may have profited off early inside knowledge of how bad the virus might get;

https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/19/politics/richard-burr-coronavirus-comments/index.html

I don't know if any laws were violated, but this stinks on ice.

Congress is exempt from insider trading laws.

There's evidence the Trumps are also profiting on the crashing stock market.

<snip>

I'm hoping that at least some provisions of the STOCK ActWP will allow for some sort of penalty for this.

Not least because Burr was one of only three Senators (and two Representatives) to vote against it.

The Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act (Pub.L. 112–105, S. 2038, 126 Stat. 291, enacted April 4, 2012) is an Act of Congress designed to combat insider trading. It was signed into law by President Barack Obama on April 4, 2012. The bill prohibits the use of non-public information for private profit, including insider trading by members of Congress and other government employees. It confirms changes to the Commodity Exchange Act, specifies reporting intervals for financial transactions.

After a 60 Minutes segment on congressional insider trading in 2011, Republican Senator Scott Brown and Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand introduced bills to combat the practice. In February 2012, the STOCK Act passed in the Senate by a 96–3 vote; the only no votes were senators Jeff Bingaman, Richard Burr, and Tom Coburn.[2] Later the House of Representatives passed it by a 417–2 vote.[3] The bill was supported heavily by vulnerable incumbents and signed into law by President Obama.[4] According to the current United States Senate Select Committee on Ethics, "A member, officer, or employee of the Senate shall not receive any compensation, nor shall he permit any compensation to accrue to his beneficial interest from any source, the receipt or accrual of which would occur by virtue of influence improperly exerted from his position as a member, officer, or employee."[5]

You think banning Chinese coming from China (not even counting the ignorance of not banning US citizens) actually did one tiny bit of good preventing or slowing the spread here?

Trump is gaslighting you.

And my post was right then and still right today.
TDS is a real thing. It's just that his supporters are the ones actually deranged.

I guess if I'm going to lick anyone's boots, it may as well be Dr. Anthony Fauci's. I highly recommend clicking the link, you may actually learn something.

ETA: you linked to a "conservative group" started by Bill Kristol? That's who you are using to back up your arguments? LOL, too funny!

I' m shocked Bill took the time to stop trying to lie us into another quagmire to rag on Trump. Maybe if Trump invades and occupies a Middle East country sitting on a lot of oil they can become best friends.
Doesn't matter who made the ad, the facts are the facts.

As for Fauci, I can't believe what he's doing. Political kissing ass is what I'd call it. And that's shocking for someone of his stature.

Just today at the press conference someone asked him why people couldn't get tests. He and Trump went on excusing their inadequate measures by saying people without symptoms don't need tests.

Is he lying, dismissing the evidence of asymptomatic spread, or ignorant that is exists? I think it's the second option, dismissing inconvenient truth. Meanwhile the evidence piles up documenting asymptomatic spread.

Then mask shortages were asked about. He claimed people only needed face shields, not N95s, because supposedly airborne spread was so rare, only people doing procedures that might induce coughing need worry about that.

Meanwhile not only does the evidence mount that there is some airborne spread, but healthcare workers are getting infected by the hundreds. So why is that Fauci? What's the problem?

And even the WISHA/OHSA memo I got two days ago says health care workers need full respiratory protection including N95s and training when dealing with COVID.

COVID-19: Review of Respiratory Protection for Workers

Despite saying this
Surgical masks (also called procedure masks) are
loose-fitting cloth masks, sometimes fitted with a
face shield for eye protection. They primarily protect
others from drops and splatter generated during
coughs, sneezes, and just breathing. The wearer is
protected from direct contact with large drops and
sprays such as from coughs and sneezes, but is not
protected from fine particles or mists that might be
generated by some medical procedures that generate
aerosols, such as a nebulizer treatment.
N95 respirators are masks designed to protect the
wearer from fine particulates and mists. These masks
form a seal with the face so all air breathed by the
worker comes through the filter material.

They end with this:
When available, an N95 respirator is preferred to ensure workers are protected from any contamination residual in the air.

I ask again, if health care workers only need face shields and not N95s, why are so many being infected?

I've never seen such a large portion of a population, in my lifetime, get lied to repeatedly and still defend the liar. It's literally blowing my mind.

Not just defend the liar, but repeat the lies despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
