The Trump Presidency: Part 20

Mmm. If this is a War against COVID-19, Trump needs impeached, removed, and charged with High Treason for all his efforts to aid the enemy.

Hey, you can't swap out the person at the helm in the middle of a storm, even if he is steering the ship directly into a reef.

Reefs. That reef just snuck up on us. Who knows where reefs come from. I heard, maybe it's true, I don't know, that it's probably due to Obama-era environmental regulations that caused the reef. But when I was steering the ship, and no one has ever seen a ship like this before, beautiful ship, very important industry, shipping, beautiful ship, and it was going so fast. so fast.
And the reef, well, no one's ever seen a reef like this. So we'll see what happens. I don't think we'll hit the reef, but maybe, so we'll see. We're looking at the reef very powerfully.

We will be making a huge important announcement in two weeks.

that's quite good!

Trump Tweets

Steve is one of the very best in the Senate. He is competing against a failed Democrat Presidential candidate who never got close to 1%, and was sent packing. Had to be talked into this run by Schumer. Bad for 2nd A! I strongly Endorse @SteveDaines!

That would be Miller doing that. Trump can barely draw a line with a Sharpie and otherwise can only sign his name. While Trump is usually racist only inadvertently, being an outright racist prick is very much Miller's shtick.

Is there evidence thatPresident Trump is incapable of writing the word Chinese?

The **** has other things he should be worrying about.

An excellent analogy.

From what I read, I'd have to say that, rather than having inside info, he just used the info publicly available and suspected what was going to happen. That's not being immoral or crooked; it's being smart. Unless something else is uncovered, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt on this one.

I don't know if it was "inside" information so much as being able to see the writing on the wall. The fact that he was saying one thing to the public while telling something closer to the truth to big donors is more concerning to me.

Nope, sorry, this prick doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt. He spent weeks publicly down-playing the seriousness of the situation, while privately telling a very different story:

Burr had a different message when he spoke the same day Trump said the virus would disappear to a private North Carolina state society event. In the speech at the Capitol Hill Club in Washington, a private GOP social club, Burr warned attendees they might have to alter their travel, schools could close and the military would get involved in the response inside the US, according to audio of his remarks obtained by NPR.
"There's one thing that I can tell you about this: It is much more aggressive in its transmission than anything that we have seen in recent history," Burr said, according to the recording obtained by NPR. "It is probably more akin to the 1918 pandemic."

This guy knew his public statements were full of ****, as a direct result of knowledge he gained from his public office. And at the same time, he just "coincidentally" divests himself of almost all his stock holdings. Nope, ********, flag on the play, not buying it.

I know this has been pointed out before but I think it bears repeating. Repeatedly! Below is a quote from Melania Trump's official White House "Be Best" page.
The mission of BE BEST is to focus on some of the major issues facing children today, with the goal of encouraging children to BE BEST in their individual paths, while also teaching them the importance of social, emotional, and physical health. BE BEST will concentrate on three main pillars: well-being, online safety, and opioid abuse.

ONLINE SAFETY - When children learn positive online behaviors early-on, social media can be used in productive ways and can effect positive change. Mrs. Trump believes that children should be both seen and heard, and it is our responsibility as adults to educate and reinforce to them that when they are using their voices—whether verbally or online—they must choose their words wisely and speak with respect and compassion. Link
How does Melania reconcile her words with her husband's online behavior? She has no influence with him at all? Her husband's online behavior would be bad enough for anyone, but when he's acting as the 'Leader of the Free World,' it seems extremely reckless and dangerous. Twenty years from now people are going to look back at this and wonder, "How could a man like this have reached the White House?" If that is, the U.S. still has a functioning democracy in twenty years. We may not because I think it's become pretty clear that is where all of this is headed. :(

"Hindsight is Trump 20/20".

The Trumpers just don't believe it.
Even as President Trump has asked Americans to stay at home and has called on the nation to come together to fight the “invisible enemy” known as the illness covid-19, virus doubters like Donovan and Crist persist. They call reports of more than 200,000 sickened and 9,000 dead worldwide a sham.
....
Virus deniers vow to continue on with their daily activities with little adjustment, convinced that the unprecedented reaction to the virus is nothing more than a plot by the media or liberals out to get Trump. The Pew Research Center released a poll Wednesday that found that 62 percent of adults say the media is exaggerating the risk of the virus.

I think we need to look at this with a little more objectivity. While Bogative or anyone else claiming the 2008 recession was in any way Obama's fault is ludicrous, I think we have to admit that what is happening to our economy right now is not Trump's 'fault' either. Even if Trump weren't POTUS, this virus' effect on the country/world would have affected the stock market and economy. While Trump may have contributed to it due to his poor handling of the crisis, we'd still be in an economic crisis. As much as I detest the Orange Turd and wish I could blame him everything, it simply isn't true.
Its true... regardless of whether it is Trump, some other republican, or a Democrat in charge, the U.S. would still be hit by the pandemic, and the economy would still have problems.

But, Trump has made the problem worse for several reasons:

- As others have said, his incompetence at handling public health issues (e.g. getting rid of people who might have been better to handle the pandemic) probably helped contribute to the spread of Covid-19

- His repeated lies have probably caused a certain amount of uncertainty regarding the stock markets (as well as among consumers). If you can't trust information coming 'the top' you are more likely to act irrationally

- Trump's actions prior to 2019 (deregulation, tax cuts/massive deficits) had over-stimulated the economy, meaning that the previous economic 'boom' was in some ways a 'bubble'. The current economic drops are in some ways an over-due correction, although Trump's previous actions are going to make it harder to deal with the future economic problems.

If Trump's response to this pandemic had been competent from day one, perhaps I might agree with you. However, his response has been incompetent from the beginning and so I must say I disagree with you, somewhat strongly.

I know both of us (and probably a majority on this board) consider removing Trump from office this year to be essential for our democracy. Given Trump's ineptitude in facing this disaster, I think it is incumbent upon us to do our damnedest to pin this on the Trump administration. You know damn well the GOP would do the same if a Democrat were in office. This is no time to play nice and pretend "objectivity" is the only issue in consideration. There comes a time when playing nice against someone playing dirty only causes you to lose the game.

I'm not saying Democrats should ever stoop so low as the GOP has over the last ten (or more) years; in fact, I would be terrified for this country if they did. But given this opportunity to pin the blame on the Trump administration, I think spin and non-objectivity is not only justified, I'm damn close to considering it mandatory.

Katrina wasn't Bush' fault either- but in a way it was.

The recent revelations regarding this hose bag in NC who was telling his donors that the **** was gonna get real on the same day Trump was playing it off as nothing certainly puts the ball in Trumps court WRT "fault".

Firing the very team of people whose expertise is the handling of a U.S. Pandemic is his fault- even if it was done by someone he put in place, and without his direct knowledge (perhaps a recrimination in itself)

And printing out autographed copies of "the largest Wall Street point gain in history!" For distribution is volunteering for the blame for the subsequent drops.

So, yeah. Trumps fault.

It'a also his fault for getting advice from Jared Kushner, rather than experts, and Kushner's fault for not consulting experts for his information.
