The mind boggles at the fact that a third or more of a nation could convince themselves that a Trump would be a good leader of 320 million souls. They excuse behavior they would scarce countenance from their child's teacher, their family doctor, the town mayor, a cop, a soldier, the pimple-faced burger flipper serving them, their child.
Why the insane jettisoning of all standards of good behavior (let alone competence) to demand of one holding the most powerful and important post in the land? It truly must result from some existential nihilism. A collective biting off of the nose to spite the face.
It's the populace that engenders more fear for me. A credulous, poorly educated, religion-infected, xenophobic basket of deplorables. That's precisely what keeps Trump and the GOP in business. If that noisesome base were ever to erode upon the perceiving of their misguided and self-defeating loyalties, this miserable cabal of grifters at the top would be sent packing.
If a religious mindset in America were to extract a meaningful and positive end, it would be the conclusion that Covid-19 is God's revelation of the malign incompetence of the un-Christian heathen evangelicals hoisted to power, and his wrath over so-called Christians hewing to a man who would dare to say he has nothing to ask forgiveness for--that he is in effect without sin.
