The question is starting to be asked here:

Should NZ pull the drawbridge.

I vote yes.

We're going to lose a fortune anyway and tourism is screwed. If we banned the virus entirely, Kiwis would take up a lot of the tourism slack, because we'd be happy to take cheap travel at home.

I suggested this option 3 weeks ago.

Not going to happen, but I'd like it to.
I vote "yes" for tourists and new immigrants only. Not for trade freight in and out and not for Kiwi's returning. Everything coming in should be sanitised and incoming people force quarantined for at least two weeks (not self/voluntary).

Let's start a new political party to put this into effect (The Drawbridge Party). Will only be effective if our elections are still going to take place of course ;).

Well, if he can apologize, then so can I. It's not often that we hear an honest takeback.
"Honest." He said he didn't even know he was sick, yet for some reason was tested two days later? I have significant doubts about that timeline in relation to his honesty. He might have thought he only had the flu or a cold, but I suspect he thought had something. If he didn't, then why would he think touching other people's stuff was so funny?

Very good set of analysis of different data about the outbreak.

Close everything. Now. It helps.

Looks spot on to me - I've been saying since the start that the true number of cases is way light.

It seems to me that it gets established then hits on a community of at-risk people and bowls them over like flies.

Yep, that's exactly how I see it.

It makes no sense to not use the natural advantage we have.

But then, this government has no sense and I doubt the opposition would be much better.

We should stage a coup!

The army's guns are all still overseas somewhere, so a couple of pig dogs and AK47s would be plenty.

Where are you going to find any? We've been out for three weeks. No rubbing alcohol or bleach left for the last two weeks. Not sure what's left aside from everclear

I scored a canister of isopropyl alcohol wipes. The place where I got them 2 days ago was out today.

Someone gave me a small bottle of Purell yesterday.

I've only made it through page 21 so far, but one thing that's probably hugely responsible for the size of the outbreak in Italy is Carnival. They started reporting cases at about the same time that everyone and their brother were out partying in the streets, so conditions were ripe for massive spread.

That's right, probably more important than church.

some article I read somewhere but didn't save a link said:
"The idea of anybody getting it easily the way people in other countries are doing it, we're not set up for that," Fauci told Wasserman Schultz. "Do I think we should be? Yes. But we're not."

The U.S. has tested more than 8,500 specimens for coronavirus. That doesn't equal 8,500 patients.
The blunt acknowledgment came as the CDC reported it had tested just over 11,000 specimens for the virus so far, far fewer than other nations, especially given that multiple specimens are needed for each patient. Meanwhile, South Korea is testing nearly 20,000 patients per day, according to the BBC.

What the heck is wrong with this country? I heard some guy on the radio last night saying we have all of the best medical professionals. Seems to me South Korea must have something we don't.

They didn't have any more warning. They don't have a stronger economy. They don't have...….anything that we don't have. What gives?

Just another way the US is”exceptional”. Things that work in other parts of the world can’t possibly work there.

About church, I asked a Spanish friend of mine if Church and communion could be responsible for the large numbers we are seeing in Italy, Spain and France. He reckons churchgoing has really gone down in Spain in recent years so doubts it.

Anecdotal of course, but that’s FWIW.
