Biden for President?

I wish I could. I knocked on doors. I'm not a non-voting young person, so I can't explain why they are so disinclined to pry boomer hands off the levers of power.

Yeah, fair enough. I know you said you went out canvassing for Sanders.

I know there is an issue of many younger people simply not being able to go out and vote which is part of a systemic problem with the US electoral system in my humble opinion.

Biden supporters ready to dance on the grave of Sanders' campaign should also remember that they will inherit this low voter turnout. Party unity means these disenchanted Sanders people are now even more disenchanted Biden people. Congrats!

If Sanders can't get them out to vote, Biden definitely can't. Hope you old boys can do it on your own, there's a lot riding on it.

Well, as I have said, and as I think I mentioned, I wanted Sanders to win. I hope he can have one last debate in which he is able to make a strong case for his policies now that all the dead wood has been cleared off the stage. I think it will also be interesting to see if Biden is still able to hold his own in a debate where he has to actually articulate his views and speak for more than fifteen minutes.

I guess we can't count on your help turning Massachusetts blue then?

It's a good system, right?

When I lived in S. Carolina, I was pissing my vote away into a secure red state. Now I live in Mass and I'm pissing my vote away into a secure blue state.

At least I don't have to stand in line for 1hr to vote here. So that's something.

Because as a demographic, talking as a demographic and only as a demographic they really, really suck and have done a lot of damage.

I am rather skeptical of this claim. Are you attributing the reforms of the war on poverty and civil rights era entirely to the generation just above the Boomers and thereby discounting the youth movements of the mid- and late-60s?

Just for the sake of topicality, I should point out that both Biden and Bernie were born a bit before the boomers came on the scene, oddly enough.

Probably because they inherited a prosperous society and handed us over this pile of crap. They have been abysmal stewards of the tremendous gifts they are given, and are totally unapologetic about it.

I swear to God if I hear another story about how some dimwit from the 60's worked part time to pay their college tuition I'm going to pop. Maybe it's because I keep getting asked by clueless Boomers why I'm not having kids while my wife and I are paying 1/3 of our income aggressively towards student debt. If nothing bad happens, we might finally be debt free in our 40's. Just in time for infertility to kick in.
At which point, you will be overjoyed at the prospect of paying higher taxes, and curbing your lifestyles to benefit the youngsters coming up who have it so much harder than you.

People talk about the "youth vote" and the "senior vote" as if they are Matthew McConaughey
in Dazed and Confused. "We just keep getting older, they stay the same age".

At some point the "youth vote" becomes the plain old "Democrat vote", and todays' Senior vote was yesteryears "youth vote".

We have been expecting the youth vote to show up for decades- ignoring that it already has- it is us!.

It's going to be tough to reach the levels of hypocrisy of the generation that burned draft cards, but then sat back and endorsed perpetual war in the ME. I still have time, let me work on it. I endeavor to excel.

Well I live in a voting district that went for Trump by a mere 1.3% in 2016, in a swing county, in a swing state (Florida). My vote (statistically and based on probability) does probably matter at least somewhat.

So be grateful I'm not some idealist taking my ball and going home because my preferred candidate didn't win, or even considering it.

Heh. I'm in a solidly blue city in a solidly red state. My vote never matters except for city councillors and junk.

Who is taking their ball and going home here?

I have very real dread that Biden will lose to Trump, and that him winning this primary is a disaster.

The only silver lining is that Trump is very much hated. Maybe that's enough.

Don't worry. When you eventually do have children, I promise you, they will be more creative than you might ever imagine at finding ways to call you a hypocrite.

Inshallah. Gonna stick my head into the guillotine and call my kids a filthy lib if they won't pull the cord.

No you see this generation finally got it right, despite every generation thinking that and saying that.

Probably because they inherited a prosperous society and handed us over this pile of crap.

I keep hearing this but what does that even mean? The evolution of society is a complex thing, and blaming a whole generation for the bad stuff in the change is naive and silly.

Because as a demographic, talking as a demographic and only as a demographic they really, really suck and have done a lot of damage.

Not any more than any other generation would have.

One might point out that the man in question was right up in Bidens' grill when the exchange took place. And, indeed, called out Biden with an accusation right from the start. Was as tall as Biden, and thirty to forty years younger.
Biden is clearly no threat to the mans' person, yet need not allow himself to be berated due to that.

Trump would never react in that manner, IMO, when his adversary was right in his face.

I don't see how any of that is relevant. It's up to the US to decide whether or not "you said something I don't like, therefore I'm going to threaten to instigate physical violence" is what they consider presidential behaviour. The last few years have shown that that's okay with the Republicans. It seems that the Democrats are leaning in that direction, too, now that it's one of their guys doing it.

People can decide for themselves whether or not this is a good thing.

Part of that was that for every person burning a draft card there were ten volunteering.

We have a warped idea of what was doing what in the 60s. Everyone acts like they were at woodstock and marching with Dr. King, when the vast majority were extremely hostile to the people who did these things.

I keep hearing this but what does that even mean?

That, objectively speaking and backed up with facts and figures, Generation X was the first generation to ever have a standard of living lower than the one that preceded it.

The Baby Boomers were, in a very real and verifiable sense, the last generation who experienced "Things getting better."
