Given your workstation was at the centre of half the crime in DeKalb, what kind of alibis have you got?
 
Two men placed their order at the walk-up window and became upset when the order was wrong, according to the manager. Employees tried to remake the order when the two men started yelling.

The manager said after they opened the window, one of the men threw all the wings at an employee. That is when Robinson shot the customer.

The way customers almost make a sport of abusing fast food workers in particular, in this country at least, I'm frankly surprised this doesn't happen more often considering how prolific guns also are here. It's not the industry to work in if you expect to be treated with dignity and humanity. Doubly not so if your know that your first response to offense or dehumanization is likely to be deadly violence.

Attempted murder requires specific intent to kill. Depending on the jurisdiction it can be really hard to prove in what looks like a spur of the moment shooting.

I meant that shooting someone with a gun ought to be attempted murder automatically. I'm in culture shock knowing that this isn't how it goes.

In some state law schemes, aggravated assault is essentially attempted murder. It often has as elements the intent to kill, disfigure, maim, or mutilate or similar. If someone dies as the result of an aggravated assault, it would be second degree murder.

So in any real sense, it is attempted non-premeditated murder, just with a different name.

That puts a different complexion on the matter. Employee had every right to defend himself, and may have acted before he even knew what was thrown.

I get that you can legally shoot people in the U.S. My culture shock was more to do with that even if someone is found to have shot someone illegally, they are not charged with attempted murder.

Ahhh! :) .. the idea behind that is the lower charge will be easier to get a conviction, and the jail time will be the same.

I'm not necessarily defending him. I'm just sayin': some people have lightning reflexes, and are able to quick draw and shoot someone to death the instant an arm cocks back. Customer could've just as easily been throwing a rock or other object that would've done serious damage.

Don't throw stuff at people in the USA. You don't know what will happen.

Don't take your gun to work if you're likely to shoot first and ask questions later.

If the "customer" had been a "civilian" and the "employee" was a "police officer" would you still think it was wrong if a person who just threw something at the officer was shot?

I almost agree with that. At least inasmuch as I am less bothered by an ******* getting shot than I am by a society that allows people to walk around able to kill someone instantly for being an *******.
