Boris says he will 'stop at nothing' to fight the spread of the virus.
BBC news on Radio 4 this morning was reporting he has blocked the health minister or any ministry officials from attending a meeting of EU ministers to coordinate responses to the virus.

Did he mention anything about being dead in a ditch if he’s not successful? What’s his policy on bogroll?

Cases outside China have doubled in the past three days.

The previous doubling took four days, the one prior to that five.

The growth is now exponential, and even if extreme measures are taken, it's too late, because it's clear cases have been going undetected.

My guess is an official count of a million cases outside China by 10 March + 2days.

Didn't you say that two weeks ago?

They make paper towels that are as soft as toilet paper.

Butt anyway, wiping your ass is totally optional in a crisis situation. I've been in parts of the world where the bathrooms don't even have toilet paper. Just a ceramic hole in the ground. That was not a crisis situation but really you can live fine without wiping all the time.

The value of assets wiped out this week has already passed the $10,000,000,000,000 mark.

Holy crap!

Stop talking about asses and crap!

This will end. This will end. You look at flu season. I said 26,000 people. I never heard of a number like that: 26,000 people, going up to 69,000 people, doctor, you told me before. 69,000 people die every year — from 20 to 69 — every year from the flu. Think of that. That's incredible. So far, the results of all of this that everybody is reading about — and part of the thing is, you want to keep it the way it is, you don't want to see panic, because there's no reason to be panicked about it — but when I mentioned the flu, I asked the various doctors, "Is this just like flu?" Because people die from the flu. And this is very unusual. And it is a little bit different, but in some ways it's easier and in some ways it's a little bit tougher, but we have it so well under control, I mean, we really have done a very good job.

I don't think it's inevitable. It probably will. It possibly will. It could be at a very small level or it could be at a larger level. Whatever happens, we're totally prepared. We have the best people in the world. You see that from the study. We have the best prepared people, the best people in the world. Congress is willing to give us much more than we're even asking for. That's nice for a change. But we are totally ready, willing, and able to — it's a term that we use, it's "ready, willing, and able." It's going to be very well under control. Now, it may get bigger. It may get a little bigger. It may not get bigger at all. We'll see what happens. But regardless of what happens, we're totally prepared.

Now that I know where this is from, it explains why I thought it sounded nonsensical.

I've seen hand sanitizer out and available at many shops. I wonder if there's a trend where those are now getting stolen?

You're right, it was even further back:

Ok, I'll take that one on the chin for hyperbole - the Chinese lockdown certainly slowed infections down for a month.

Now that the virus is out worldwide, I'll stick by the 10 March million, though.

We'll talk again next week. :)

Please do. As to the former guess, I'm happy to claim in my defence I was working on a two-day incubation, like a cold, when it's actually a lot longer.

That's why there's been the lull between China's lockdown and the community spread you're now seeing. It's given a false sense of security and now that it's breaking out all over, the numbers will shoot up.

The other point of relevance is - and the delay in cases showing up in places like USA, Germany, France & other parts of Europe emphasises it - there are many times more cases than the official count. The best estimate is that 90% of people aren't sick enough to even go to the doctor, so aren't tested, far less counted.

We probably have a million cases already and the true number of total will never show up until the pandemic finishes and antibody counts can be made.

CNN reports that there are now 6 deaths in Washington state.

That's escalating quickly.

A quick reverse percentage on the deaths says there are between 600 and 6000 people spreading the virus around right now in USA.

And more arriving every minute. I'm beginning to think my nightmare scenario is unfortunately unfolding right in front of us.

I'd also be extremely interested to know whether any tests have yet been done on people with pneumonia since 30 January, as I think CDC requested. I'd be surprised if it didn't turn some up - the cluster in Wa. hasn't come from nowhere.

My first pick would be looking at Colorado, having a punt Chinese skiers will have delivered it to both Italy and Wa. through tourist skiers and may well have done the same there.
