Wonder if someone in Japan is thinking about the Coronavirus as the country's solution to its aging crisis -
or if it's just me because I'm a bastard.

Yeah, but let's say you are stuck in your home for a month, and you run out of bogroll....

What are you going to do?

Just in case you have some ideas, that was rhetorical. You don't need to tell me.

But I can confirm that shelves are empty here of toilet roll.

I guess I don't think about it much because I only buy in bulk, like 24 rolls at a time. I rarely have less than 8 rolls left before I stock up again. Same goes with paper towels. I'm usually lucky in that there is usually a sale on some combination of the two.

One thing I do wonder about, at my place, after the rains and floods, we have mossies in plaque proportions- could it be transmitted by blood transfer by mosquitoes?

Almost certainly not.

Covid-19 isn't a disease that gets into your blood, so they wouldn't be collecting any viral particles to pass on, and even if they did, it probably wouldn't matter.

Clearly my expertise doesn't give me any knowledge about whether school closures should have been warranted but wouldn't schools be a good(bad) vehicle for children to get contract the virus and then possibly infect their parents (grandparents) who may fall seriously ill.

That's what I said when I first saw those remarks and he seems to be in a minority of one.

Apparently there was another death from the cruise ship.

Another two, even.

That has been quietly mentioned, and I pointed out what a positive effect it will have on our housing crisis. There are a massive number of old people who live in their own homes and if 15% of them croak, there will be a lot of houses ready to be sold in the final wash up.

I'd be interested to see some early results for the anti-viral testing China's doing.

I said a whole week ago our best hope is for one of them to work, and it's still true, but getting more urgent by the hour.

The rest of the world has comfortably passed China in new infections and we're only days away from passing them in number of deaths.

At least 210 people in Iran have died as a result of the new coronavirus disease, sources in the country's health system have told BBC Persian.

Most of the victims are from the capital, Tehran, and the city of Qom, where cases of Covid-19 first emerged.

The figure is six times higher than the official death toll of 34 given by the health ministry earlier on Friday.

There was no comment from the Iranian government, but it has insisted it is being transparent about the outbreak.

Wow, Iran not being honest - that's a shock.

The spread is fairly well established in the ME, now.

They might even have to cease fire in their wars for a while.

A recent survey of American beer drinkers found that 38% of those asked will not buy Corona beer and 16% are confused if Corona beer is related to the coronavirus, USA Today reported.

This is the really stupid part. I can see not ordering a Corona because then you're locked into the next several minutes into a conversation about the virus. But to think the beer has something to do with it? Insane.

Sometimes people will troll a survey. It could be funny to answer that you think Corona beer causes the virus. It injects comedy into the public sphere because you know the results will be published.

It's anonymous and nobody is there to call you an idiot. It's called trolling.

I agree people should ensure now they have enough loo paper now to last for the rest of the year. If nothing happens then you have only bought something you will use anyway. If this turns into something serious then you are ok. If you run out of loo paper then you are in serious trouble.
What I have said for loo paper goes for all other non perishables that you use. And certain high value things could even be used instead of money in case things get REALLY bad. You might have to find places to store stuff where you do not normally store such things.

I saw a news report that a dog in Hongkong has tested positive for Covid19. So now I'm wondering, does this mean that it can spread to other mammals, such as mice and rats? I don't like to think about the further implications if that's the case...
Dogs can catch some strains of coronavirus, I believe in the GI tract.

This cute little pomeranian is well, and it has yet to be sorted if the positive test was from oral exposure but not infection.

Either way, I don't believe it is an issue yet but stay tuned.

Gotta love the Trump administration trying to not test people so they can tell Orange Fuhrer that there are no cases, he can go on TV and say it, and it would be technically true.

This will be the way they handle it. Pretend it isn't happening, attack anyone that says otherwise.

Just like his idols, Putin and Xi. And I suspect something like this is going on in India.

Absolutely!

One reason, among many, to give kids flu vaccinations is to protect the older adults around them.
