Should we fear Bernie?

No, I voted for Hillary in the election and the primary.

I just want to know what Bernie is going to do if Congress tells him he can have Medicare-for-All, but nothing else cause we just can't afford it.

He'll take it, and be proud of it. Fixing US healthcare is something that the Democratic Party has been trying to do since Clinton was President, and it's probably the thing that would have the single greatest positive impact for the greatest number of US citizens possible.

Give us 3 or 4 years of nice clean MFA, and maybe, just possibly, the US will learn that reflexively refusing government programs because "That's SOCIALISM!" isn't the greatest plan ever.

But is MFA the best way to get Universal Health Care?
I think MFA is politically impossible anyway.

A President Sanders, like every president before him, would pass exactly zero laws.

I'd be a lot more sanguine about letting progressives pick the President, if they showed any understanding of how the presidency works.
He would pass the laws by getting the senate to bring them to vote. Unlike Mitch. And signing them. Mitch has to go.

Really,?
After listening to the commentary being presented during the recent impeachment it is the progressives' grasp on the role of the Executive that you question!?

I think I'm going to start a thread on Medicare for All. Insurance companies LOVE Medicare. What I'm seeing referred to as MfA, including things like outlawing private insurance, just isn't.

And you can't just outlaw Insurance companies...you have to pay the stockholders fair market value..something the Berniebros forget.

Do you have a source? There are definitely costs in changing systems, even if it is given that M4A is more efficient, but I haven't encountered this claim outside of your posts.

Doesn't matter. A good plan that they can pass is better than a perfect plan they can't pass.

Don't fight the hypothetical, dude. They asked what Bernie would do if it was possible, as a trade off for everything else. I can only assume it was intended as some kind of a "Gotcha!" attempt, but it's just silly. Getting the recalcitrant Republican senate to agree to MFA would be the biggest win the Democrats have had in decades. Of course they'd take it, if it were offered.

Did they pay off the stockholders who owned distilleries and breweries when they brought in prohibition?

Hell, I think a lot of Democrats would oppose MFA.
Why are you so sold on the idea?

Nope it's called in the US the Government cannot seize your property without just compensation (except in criminal cases).
You seem not to know very much about the way the US works, really.

Another salty reaction to me taking the piss.

Nobody has to "outlaw" insurance: insurance is currently only permitted to do business if and when the states permit them to, and the states dictate how those insurers are allowed to run their business. It's a very heavily regulated industry. Those paying attention would have noticed that not every insurance company does business in every state--some aren't willing or able to meet the demands of each state. If a state decides it doesn't want insurance companies doing business in it it can simply not renew their licenses. Or make regulations so onerous it becomes unrealistic or unprofitable to do business there.

In other words, insurance is not something happening in a free market, laissez-faire environment now. It's one of the most regulated industries in the US. Property, medical, life...when your product is promises it's definitely in the interests of the state to keep a tight rein on your activities!

Can't you just let them continue? When there's free health care for all, insurance companies won't have many customers left, so the majority of them will just go broke on their own and their stocks will plummet. I see no reason why it would be necessary to outlaw them.

Thats not true. Lots of people in the "rust belt" voted for Trump to get back their manufacturing job, or improve their pay. That has by and large failed to materialize. Lots of them are thinking about changing their mind. Its PA/MI/WI where Bernie can flip the election. His weakness is Florida. He's just about killed any chance he has there unfortunately.

Not all Democrats in Florida think so:

Krishnaiyer conceded Sanders would have a tough time in the parts of Miami-Dade County where anti-socialism sentiments are strongest among Hispanic and Latino voters. But most pundits are overlooking the voters Sanders could attract, he said.
“He has an ability to talk to white people in Polk, Pasco and Volusia counties that have gotten further and further away from Democrats in recent years,” Krishnaiyer said. “Those are working class communities. I think what Sanders can do is connect with white working class people who voted for Obama in 2008 and voted for Mitt Romney and then Trump. That’s where I see his potential.”
The establishment’s fear of the Sanders “phenomenon” is the “same narrow party orthodoxy that has led Democrats to historic lows in statehouses around the country and the very preventable election of Donald Trump," Ray said.
These Florida Democrats predicted Bernie Sanders would win the primary. Here’s why. (Tampa Bay Times, Feb. 25, 2020)
