And that's the thing about "weaponization", you really need to ask who is doing the weaponization, and why they're doing it. A nation state with traditional military goals would want a weapon with very different properties as compared to an apocalyptic religious cult, or terrorist organization.

And you can see that in the development of nuclear weapons. Nation states have, for the most part, developed weapons and methods of use that maximize short term blast damage effects, while trying to minimize radiation and fallout effects, because they always figured that, after the bomb went off, they'd still have a job to do, and having huge swathes of ground completely irradiated made doing that job harder. It's the terrorists who are looking for "dirty bombs" that are intended to deny the use of an area for extended periods of time, because that creates maximum disruption for the least effort.

As others have said, it all depends on who is doing it for what reason. How is this idea?
The USA is afraid of China's growing economy. Wants it damaged. What better than a virus that targets smokers. As a result of this virus China is forced to close down its economy in order to stop its spread. Will not have a huge impact on many countries as the % of the population who smoke in the USA is a lot smaller than in China.

If this virus is a biological warfare then it is a brilliant weapon. Might need a few paid people to go around saying how horrible it is as a weapon.:D

The virus went into that food market before it came out."

It may not be a completed weapon. It may be a test. What happens when we do this? OK, we get a new virus with unknown effects. Let us give it to certain people who are locked up. But when they do something goes wrong and a person who has the virus, maybe a guard or the person escapes or is released gets into the general population and as the result the virus starts spreading. Patient 0 only give to someone who works at the markets, who then gives it to heaps of other people. None of these people are diagnosed, at the time, and start spreading it. Then hospital workers start noticing it and are silenced. By the time they cannot be ignored it is too late. You know the rest


I am not going to say the above is anything close to being correct. All I am saying is that something like this is realistic and no one can really say it is impossible.

And this highlights why "bioweapons" are mostly a BS scare tactic. Even with access to the best equipment, it's still really hard to control. The virus "has its own agenda", which isn't compatible with most military agendas. The army doesn't want a gun that shoots the wrong people, or refuses to shoot the right people for some unknown reason, or keeps shooting after they've won the battle.
