Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 19

Trump says liberal Democrat judges have to recuse from Trump cases. OK then, let Kavanaugh and pals need to recuse from abortion cases.:D

And this coming from the man who damn near had an apoplectic seizure when Sessions recused himself.

There has rarely been a juror so tainted as the forewoman in the Roger Stone case. Look at her background. She never revealed her hatred of “Trump” and Stone. She was totally biased, as is the judge. Roger wasn’t even working on my campaign. Miscarriage of justice. Sad to watch!

A total miscarriage of justice!

I see Trump and his minions are preparing the way for pardoning/commuting Stone's sentence. The only question is not 'if' but 'when'.

...

And then there was this from a 2015 New York Times magazine profile of Trump:
Trump said he was not following any special diet or exercise regimen for the campaign. '''All my friends who work out all the time, they're going for knee replacements, hip replacements — they're a disaster,'' he said. He exerts himself fully by standing in front of an audience for an hour, as he just did. 'That's exercise.'"

...

Looks like they misspelt "excretes".

Pre-sentencing commentary, heretofore a generally accepted tradition among judges in criminal and civil cases, now is evidence of "bias". Got it.

And when Donnie gets back from making nice with another right wing authoritarian leader. he is going to have a Corona Virus crisis probably dumped in his lap.
Be scared.Be very scared.

I'm sure Cuccinelli has a very large IT staff to help him with such issues. There's no reason for him to be whining on Twitter about internet access. Oh, and shouldn't Homeland Security have their own maps?

And shoud'nt the HHS secretary or the CDC be in charge?
If I were sure there was a God, I would be praying very hard now...

All the pardons he issued recently prove he doesn't need any preparing just to issue pardons, so if he is preparing something, it's not that.

I suspect he's hoping all his bluster will stampede the courts into doing what he wants before they get to the conviction and sentencing stage, just like how it works for proper dictators.

No one he pardoned/commuted so far has been so closely connected to Trump as Stone. His previous pardon/commutations are for people not convicted of crimes directly in the service of benefiting Trump. That is the difference.

They will just find someone to scapegoat. Otherwise they would bear some responsibility and that is totally unthinkable so they will find others to blame. It is the primary skill needed to be a conservative after all.

It's all China's fault so we will ramp up our trade war, to get revenge for this.

They'll blame Democrats. That's pretty much a given. And city folk, really. I've already heard the disease dismissed as a disease that will only really affect city folk... unless the city folk start running away from the cities, which would be attempted murder on the rural folk and thus might deserve lethal methods of fighting back against it. I wish I were joking about that.

Somewhat related to this, though...

Suspected US COVID-19 patient must pay $1,400 for test, or $3,270 if he has "pre-existing condition"

Of particular note in that is...

Azcue’s plan wouldn’t have existed if Donald Trump’s administration hadn’t rolled back provisions of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) that prevented insurers from denying coverage over pre-existing conditions or refusing to things like hospitalization in 2018. The White House added links to the federal ACA exchange to outside sites that sold such “short-term plans,” according to the Washington Post, despite these not meeting the original requirements; that’s in addition to the Trump administration’s other efforts to weaken key provisions of the law or throw it out entirely. Azcue makes $55,000 a year and took one of those short-term plans to lower his premiums from $400 a month to $180, according to the Herald

Unsurprisingly, a heck of a lot of people don't have that kind of money lying around. Of course, then there's the issue about whether the CO-VID testing is accurate in the first place - I'm hearing that the US currently only has the capability to test a few hundred people presently and those tests are flawed.

To poke elsewhere...

Our new Director of National Intelligence didn't mention he was a shill for a corrupt oligarch

Richard Grenell, the incompetent buffoon and erstwhile Twitter Troll who Donald Trump selected this week to oversee our entire National Intelligence apparatus worked as a paid consultant for a corrupt Moldovan oligarch, and authored multiple articles defending that oligarch, which articles were carefully placed in mainstream right-wing media outlets. Oh, and he did this without telling anyone about his work for that oligarch, in potential violation of a federal anti-corruption statute.

Need more be said?

Also, well...

'Boogaloo' civil war talk takes on a life of its own as far-right extremists coalesce

The myths and conspiracy theories that fuel the radical right often take on lives of their own: Think of how the QAnon phenomenon began as a handful of conspiracy theorists making groundless claims and predictions about a coming “Storm” that metastasized first into a wildly popular body of “Patriot”/militia conspiracism, and finally into a massive submovement operating within the framework of the Trump presidency—while producing a growing record of lethal violence by its unhinged believers.

Something similar appears to be coalescing around the “boogaloo”—the vision of members of the far right of a coming civil war, which they claim is being forced upon them by liberals who want to take their guns away as the first step toward their incarceration and enslavement. In reality, of course, a number of sectors of the far right have ginned up this kind of rhetoric for decades—but now, a systematic study of its spread through social media has found that it appears to be massing into a movement of its own.

Again, the quoted text somewhat speaks for itself.

I am not sure if you're being sarcastic or not...

From what I understand, Trump believes in the silly idea that people have a limited amount of 'energy' in their lives. Exercise "uses up" that energy, so by living a largely sedentary lifestyle, he's preserving his energy so that he lives longer.

That trump has given that impression or said it expressly seems to be largely corroborated, but it's still difficult to believe that anyone actually subscribes to that notion seriously. More likely he's just making **** up as he goes along to try and excuse his lethargy.

Trump has no response no plan in place since he gutted (in 2018) the structure Obama had set up to combat the Ebola virus and any other potential disease outbreaks.

CDC and my Administration are doing a GREAT job of handling Coronavirus, including the very early closing of our borders to certain areas of the world. It was opposed by the Dems, “too soon”, but turned out to be the correct decision. No matter how well we do, however, the.....

...Democrats talking point is that we are doing badly. If the virus disappeared tomorrow, they would say we did a really poor, and even incompetent, job. Not fair, but it is what it is. So far, by the way, we have not had one death. Let’s keep it that way!
