With no intention to be funny:
  • Jim Jordan
  • Devin Nunes
  • Matt Gaetz
  • Tucker Carlson
That’s just off the top of my head.

I don't think any of these have even remotely the appeal that Trump has.
For starters, besides Carlson, none of them have been for years on the TV.

From the CNN article linked above:

In a sign of increasing urgency, the administration gave senators a classified briefing on Tuesday morning about coronavirus contingency plans.

This is a style of news writing that really annoys me, as I’ve said before. CNN doesn’t think readers will “get” the urgency without the clause saying it’s urgent. The fact that the admin is giving senators a classified briefing conveys that just fine. IMO CNN is doing it to say, ooh, look how out of touch Trump is! But while his wording is questionable, I think he might be more or less correct. This coronavirus won’t just “go away,” but viral epidemiologists are very good at what they do. Containment isn’t a slam-dunk but it’s a fairly likely scenario.

“The exercise stuff never took off as much as I wanted it to,” Dr Ronny Jackson told the New York Times. “But we were working on his diet.”
Strange, that. I am absolutely astonished that Trump doesn't have the motivation for exercise.
I am not sure if you're being sarcastic or not...

From what I understand, Trump believes in the silly idea that people have a limited amount of 'energy' in their lives. Exercise "uses up" that energy, so by living a largely sedentary lifestyle, he's preserving his energy so that he lives longer.

Yea what do those idiots at the CDC know that there will be an outbreak in the US.

They are like those losers at the CIA and know nothing, the president knows all.

That is certainly reasonable to infer from some things he has said but like anything with Trump who really knows what he believes, he says what ever he thinks his audience wants to hear so. He is certainly the most averse to walking president we have had since FDR.

What do you mean adverse to walking? We regularly see him wandering around the white house grounds while waiting for the presidential helicopter to arrive.

I’m not saying there won’t be an outbreak here; quite possibly there will be. Novel viruses are nothing to sneeze at. My point precisely was that the CDC and other agencies here and abroad are good at what they do. Meanwhile I hope Trump is privately, personally *terrified* of the bug. Like Howard Hughes level.

Do good they can always have more cut from their funding. Like all science.

The CDC was good at what they do... I guess the big question is are they still good, after 3 years of Trump. Not saying that there aren't capable people, but between budget cuts, various political appointments of less-capable people, and an administration that has an anti-science mind-set, their ability to respond may be hampered.

As for the "other agencies abroad", you have:
- China, which is more or less ground zero, which is currently being criticized for not being open about the epidemic
- North Korea isn't claiming any infections, even though it should be affected, given how close it is to China

The US is now facing a potential crisis with a President who is totally unfit to handle it.
I hate to say it, but maybe their constiurents dying of the virus might finally be what wakes up some GOP congressmen to the kind of person they are dealing with in Trump.

They will just find someone to scapegoat. Otherwise they would bear some responsibility and that is totally unthinkable so they will find others to blame. It is the primary skill needed to be a conservative after all.

It's all China's fault so we will ramp up our trade war, to get revenge for this.

Just think of all of the tariff money we'll be raking in from China. ;)

And all the money we will use when China strikes back.
CHina is just too big to bully around.
I despise the current Chinese Government, but I don't think we push them around.

That wouldn't shock me.

From what I understand, Trump believes in the silly idea that people have a limited amount of 'energy' in their lives. Exercise "uses up" that energy, so by living a largely sedentary lifestyle, he's preserving his energy so that he lives longer.

That comes from:

In their revelatory book "Trump Revealed," the Washington Post's Mike Kranisch and Marc Fisher wrote more extensively about Trump's "battery" theory of energy:
After college, after Trump mostly gave up his personal athletic interests, he came to view time spent playing sports as time wasted. Trump believed the human body was like a battery, with a finite amount of energy, which exercise only depleted. So he didn't work out. When he learned that John O'Donnell, one of his top casino executives, was training for an Ironman triathlon, he admonished him, "You are going to die young because of this.
"

And then there was this from a 2015 New York Times magazine profile of Trump:
Trump said he was not following any special diet or exercise regimen for the campaign. '''All my friends who work out all the time, they're going for knee replacements, hip replacements — they're a disaster,'' he said. He exerts himself fully by standing in front of an audience for an hour, as he just did. 'That's exercise.'"

Trump's level of ignorance on science and medicine is staggering. Which is why having him in charge during a potentially disasterous disease outbreak is really scary.

It's also not just the level of ignorance, but the delusion of expertise on these matters. He won't ask the right people for help.
