2020 Democratic Candidates Tracker Part III

Donald Trump wasn't a big media ad buy customer in 2016. Bloomberg's gonna lose. He has to spend millions of dollars to get the kind of coverage Trump got for free.

There are 1000 million dollars in a billion. What's the big deal that he'll need to spend millions on advertising?

With all the squabbling on stage, and Bloomberg with his women, surprisingly it's Biden that gained by tonight's debate. There was a lot of "I'm the guy" stuff from him, but we are used to it. And it would also work well with Trump.:D To Trump: you are the guy that rode a limo at Indy 500 and keeps talking about yourself. Nothing but talk.

You think Biden is gaining?

To me he looks like a screaming banshee.

Now Sanders is attacking Bloomberg's wealth. Bloomberg got back saying Sanders was the one writing the tax code.

Bloomberg his giving billions away. Hard to blame him for everything wrong with the billionaires.

I noticed late in the 2nd segment it seems like their coaching and prepping is reaching an end. Starting to descend into stump material casserole.

This last segment could come off the rails.

Honestly, Pete's "If Minnesota is so important why did Mondale get poleaxed in 1984" point was a glorious airball.

Sort of like something Bob Dole would say. I mean that as a compliment.

Liz is murdering Bloomberg on live TV.

To poke at how that started off...

SEN: ELIZABETH WARREN: I'd like to talk about who we're running against. A billionaire who calls women fat broads and horse faced lesbians, and no, I'm not talking about Donald Trump, I'm talking about Mayor Bloomberg. Democrats are not going to win if we have a nominee who has a history of hiding his tax returns, of harassing women, and of supporting racist policies like redlining and stop and frisk. Look, I’ll support whoever the Democratic nominee is, but understand this. Democrats take a huge risk if we just substitute one arrogant billionaire for another. This country has worked for the rich for a long time and left everyone else in the dirt. It is time to have a president who will be on the side of working families and be willing to get out there and fight for them. That is why I am in this race and that is why I will beat Donald Trump.

Then, of course, there was Warren asking him to release various women from their NDAs so we can hear their stories as another highlight.

Klobuchar managed to tag him pretty good with the "memorized talking points" jibe.
Sort of, but she doesn't exactly come across as wise and up on the issues. The only candidate that didn't sound like they were repeating their stump speech 90% of the time was Bloomberg. Buttigieg came in next as sounding like he was actually debating and not repeating a stump speech. Biden Sanders and Warren were the worst.

lol

He made the same statement about his being the best person to beat Trump over and over.

Other than that, I hope he didn't prepare because his NDA answer was so bad that people seem to be missing the worst part: that he said they were not all about him except for women being mad about his jokes. Chicks always being sensitive, amirite?

Not to mention his non-apology about stop and frisk where he had to claim it worked (no evidence this is the case), but trains run on time amirite?

Just total cringe.

Honestly, are you getting one of those checks? Did you have to sign an NDA?

The best thing about that is that his spending makes all his support suspect and the NDA makes any denial hollow. Honestly, anyone defending him after that debate is on morally higher ground if they are doing it for money...

Biden's capping it was awesome. It was like Warren had pulled Bloomberg's fingernails out and was firing up the blowtorch when Biden just wandered over and put a bullet in his head.

Whoo hoo!

But I wonder if anyone except political junkies are watching? I used to watch these sorts of things, but I don't anymore. So, how effective is that sort of thing? We shall see. It's a good line, for sure, and true. A few weeks ago I opined on these boards that he was a moderate Democrat, so I would like him, but as I saw more of him, it seemed that he was more an more Trump-like.

Not nearly as bad as Trump, but has some of the same personality flaws.

I've been meaning to check out the Bernie Sanders Headquarters in the Mission District of San Francisco near where I live. Just as a friendly spectator, to see what it's like and how engageable (or fanatical) the volunteers are. After all, it is the Bernie Sanders Headquarters in San Francisco. The belly of the beast for a guy like me.

It turns out I was nearby and dropped by today not realizing the debate was on. There were about 50 people there and they had the debate on the big screen. I stayed for about a half hour. Of course, they clapped at almost everything Bernie said and sneered a bit at what the other candidates said - but they especially sneered and laughed at Bloomberg. The biggest applauses of the 30 minutes I saw were all for the "anti billionaire" rhetoric whether it was from Sanders or Warren. Whenever anyone said anything disparaging towards billionaires that seemed to whip everyone into a frenzy of sorts.
