Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 19

Good afternoon Segnosaur

That's the way I read it as well. It would seem that if the majority of the House filed the suit, then it would at least be heard.
I'm not a lawyer but I would think that maybe the people that brought the suit to begin with would have consulted with someone that could have explained that to them ahead of time. Granted I think it sounds a little odd to me that you have to have the majority in order to even bring such a suit but what do I know?

Looks as if the Clean Hands provision was at work.

A minority cannot sue on behalf of Congress as a whole. That would be an absurdity. Individual members can sue on behalf of themselves, the majority of a committee can sue on behalf of that committee, but if you let a minority sue on behalf of the whole body, you could get absurdities where Congress has multiple contradictory suits over the same issue.

When you are talking about Emoluments, I suspect an individual trying to sue on behalf of themselves would be thrown out for the same reason... "no standing".

Or at least one who's actually funny.

Trump isn't even a good bully. He always picks low hanging fruit and makes the most obvious joke.

His insults and name-calling appeal to the lowest common denominator, and there are just enough of them to re-elect.

Vindman’s lawyer says his twin brother Yevgeny has been fired from NSC, too, and was also escorted from the White House.

Are you saying that the five-time draft-dodging coward who paid a quack doctor to gin up a note about imaginary bone spurs fired Lt. Col. Vindman decorated war veteran and serving officer for telling the truth in response to a subpoena and gave a freedom medal to lying liar Limbaugh?

Not surprised at all.
There is no behavior beneath Donald Trump, and none that will sway his political base.

Trump II coming up.

Trump Tweets

I was very surprised & disappointed that Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia voted against me on the Democrat’s totally partisan Impeachment Hoax. No President has done more for the great people of West Virginia than me (Pensions), and that will....

....always continue. Every Republican Senator except Romney, many highly religious people, all very smart, voted against the Impeachment Hoax. @SenCapito was all in (a great person). I was told by many that Manchin was just a puppet for Schumer & Pelosi. That’s all he is!

Wonder how long he'll be fixated on this. Maybe forever. But then there's this:

Trump uses chaos to get things done
https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2019/06/chaos-works/591688/

This is not a new article. It came up as a "related story" when I was reading a newer Atlantic article. I'm always interested in MSM articles that go against the prevailing tide of pieces about how dysfunctional the White House is. The essay poses the question, "What if the chaos is strategic?" It's easy for me to point at Trump or his supporters and laugh but we have to learn a lesson about underestimating Trump. I think the dysfunction is real but dwelling on it is, IMO, counterproductive or at least pretty useless if the goal is to remove him from office.

I much more enjoy the stories about an isolated Trump, stewing in his own juices, or back-stabbing aides and the next high-profile firing. But I mostly avoid going to cnn.com *because* I'm reminded of all the resources that go into generating stories telling me what I want to hear. It doesn't matter much which reporter has been snubbed or who he is currently insulting. That's partly adroit redirection on his part.

Re: the NYT Sondland piece:
Emboldened by his victory and determined to strike back, the president fired Mr. Sondland, the ambassador to the European Union, after the White House earlier on Friday dismissed Colonel Vindman.

Why do reporters/editors insist on inserting interpretive clauses in breaking hard-news stories, before even announcing the news? It's incredibly obvious why Trump did this, so obvious that readers will "get it" without the big red arrows pointing to his vindictiveness. This is a long-standing beef of mine and not just with the NYT. Not Trump-specific, either.

And I just had finished reading a CNN story about Mulvaney's precarious position. Sometimes I wish they would go back to reporting stuff that happens without so much emphasis on speculation and predictions.

IMO this isn't going to help Trump but I'm willing to wait till the fallout occurs before finding a think piece on What It All Means.

I hope this turns a few more in the military against him. I'm going to guess the State Department was already against him.
