Moderate conservative group slams Martha McSally in new ad

The Lincoln Project is an organization of moderate Republicans aiming primarily to turn their party away from their support of Donald Trump. It is lead by prominent Trump opponents and moderate conservatives like George Conway, Rick Wilson, and Steve Schmidt.

Here's one of their ads from last week attacking Martha McSally (R-AZ). I think it hits pretty hard.




It's a shame someone as respected as McSally became a total Trump chump.
I hope Mark Kelly replaces her!

Trump supporters may just assume Democrats are behind it. How many of them will know what the Lincoln Project even is? And she wasn't "beaten badly"; it was pretty close.

And it's just kind of a weird ad, in that it's not recommending any positive alternative. It doesn't have to, of course, but the pure negativity is pronounced. It doesn't say, "Let McSally know how you feel." Just says she's bad.

McSally lost in 2018 to Kyrsten Sinema (D).
McSally was then appointed to Jon Kyl's seat when he resigned by the governor (R).

McSally can easily be defeated by a more moderate 'R', which could prove problematic for the (D) opponent. AZ is red leaning to purple.

I was under the impression that AZ republicans liked McCain, and Trump's undignified feud with the late Senator left a bad taste in many people's mouth. Trying to tie McSally to Trump may be taking advantage of this.

I'm just thinking that anybody who would enjoy the "nyer-nyer, you lost!" tone of the ad likely wouldn't like her already. Those who do like her but are open to persuasion would likely just dig their feet in.

I think it's important to point out that she wasn't there because the voters chose her. After all, that's been the Republicans go-to when it comes to impeachment. They shouldn't impeach because it would be overturning the votes of 63 million Americans. I think it makes sense. It's not the commercial I would go with, but at least some people on the right are trying to do something.

But they might turn on them because they lost. How does being a losing loser who loses "support Trump"? Trump likes candidates who don't lose!

I always thought it was kind of bogus to appoint a person who had lost a Senate race to the Senate. The best you could say was that roughly 48 percent liked her OK.

Anyway, when is it too late for a moderate to mount a primary challenge? She *was* the moderate R in 2018. Under the current climate nationwide it seems R candidates are more afraid of challengers to the right of them. I'd love to see a 3rd party candidate who thinks Trump is too liberal.

McSally strikes me as a very unpleasant person. For what that's worth.

Yes but its all about motivation... a potential voter may not like her, but would they have actively gone out of their way to vote for their opponent?

I guess the question is are there many people that truly are that 'open to persuasion'.

They have certainly made this ad almost as much about Trump as McSally. Perhaps the political calculation was "If you're planning on voting for Trump, you're probably too far gone to be reasoned with. And even if you could be reasoned with, it won't be by logic and rationality, but by an appeal to emotion that is about as subtle as a sledgehammer to the face".
