I thought I couldn't have any more contempt for the GOP than I already did. I was wrong.
What they have done in this "trial", especially today, will go down as one of the most shameful events in US Congressional history.

Wrong. It was the unanimous opinion of our intelligence services that they were rigged in 2016. Confirmed by the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Chess games are rarely played all the way to checkmate. Once it’s clear a player is going to lose, resigning is in order.

I just tuned in the Impeachment Trial. It’s pointless. Every vote is going along party lines in favor of the Republicans, of course.

Next week will be closing arguments. I predict they’ll be numbingly repetitive.

What’s the point? Schiff has already said a “trial” without witnesses or documents is not a trial. With the outcome now 100% assured, why drag it out any longer? Like a lost chess game, why not just resign? They won’t, of course, but conceding while articulating clearly the reasons why would make an awful lot of sense.

Regardless, I’m pretty discouraged and tuning out at this point.

They don't want to hand the GOP the easy soundbite of: "See, they gave up! They KNEW it was a political sham, a hoax, and they gave up!"

Even people who want to blow everything up might be a little uneasy at unchecked presidential power. And the House can say, "We tried." I still don't really see what Dems could have done differently except maybe keeping the subpoenas in play. I'm not sure why they chose not to.

You do not understand American politics. It all depends on a few thousand votes in a few swing states as far as the Presidency. It does not matter if you stack up the votes in the Blue states, if you lose in the purple ones.. You have to convince some voters who voted for Trump in 2016 to switch . I maintain somebody as far to the left as Sanders....( and yes, he is far to the left by American standards, which are the only ones that matter as far as the election goes) cannot do that. I have seen NO convincing evidence from the Berniebros to the contrary.

You are dealing in generalaties which mean crap in the final election. All the matters is those few thousand votes in the swing states as long as we have the electorial system. Which I think should be abolished, but that ain't gonna happen before November.

I do get US politics, and my answer is still the same, get those that don't vote and are pissed at the system to come vote for your side.

Look, in 2016, had Hillary been able to get just 20% of those that didn't vote in Ohio to have instead voted for her, she would have won Ohio. The same theory holds for the other swing States. Get those who haven't been bothered to vote before to get off their backsides and act instead of sitting on their couches and moaning about how corrupt the Government is. If you live in a swing State, get out and start now, talk with your neighbours and friends who don't vote, get them on your side. If you're not in a swing Stare, help to support those that are, or heck, take a working vacation to one and get out and get those votes in.

Instead of moaning about it, do something about it.

I think that unless someone can get the Military and Police on board, it'd be a very short revolution.

Consider all of the modern State vs Militia where it has come down to a shooting match, who won?

And you have to remember that in all those cases, the State was generally trying to minimise casualties, what do you think it would be like it they decided that casualties didn't matter?

Another issue is that States these days are far more integrated between Republican and Democrats. Yes many have more of one than the other, but unlike in 1861, there is no contiguous set of States who have an overwhelming population that are supporting one side or the other. This means that any violence would not involve States, but rather would end up being more neighbour vs neighbour, and as such there would be a broader ability for the Federal State to declare emergency powers and and then treat those fighting their supporters as Terrorists.

Armed action against the US Government is really not an option these days, and against a Tyrannical Government that is willing to do anything it wants, it would be little more than suicide.

Except that he can't win forever, sooner or later there will be a period of history that Trump and his supporters won't control, and researchers will be able to take a cold clinical look back with all the evidence open and available to be told to the public.

Good evening. Now is the time for Bloomberg to announce that he is willing to pay any government for dirt on Trump. Specifically their transcripts and recordings of any calls that they have had with Trump. He could also toss Ukraine a couple of million $'s to apologize for our country for what Trump has done to them. The GOP is clearly fine with that. Unlike Trump, Bloomberg actually has his own money to do that. Oh yeah, and pick Biden or any of the other candidates as his running mate.

It's important to remember the Republicans didn't win anything by this. This was a foregone conclusion. I'd rather be Democrat explaining why I followed the evidence and the law as opposed to being a Republican saying it doesn't matter.
