Cont: House Impeachment Inquiry - part 2

Since the question was asked earlier in this thread; the following is the oath all of the Senators just took:

"I solemnly swear (or affirm, as the case may be) that in all things appertaining to the trial of the impeachment of (the person on trial), now pending, I will do impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws; So help me God."

So at least McConnell and Graham have already declared their intent to break that oath.

I am an atheist. But many Republicans (including Trump himself, ha, ha) claim a very deep religious belief in and obedience to God. I wonder what they are thinking when they take the oath? Did they all take the oath in unison or individually? If the former, perhaps they will claim that they just muttered or hummed and didn't really speak the actual oath.

Of course I am convinced that the politicians who claim the strongest beliefs in God are more atheistic than I am.

It wouldn't matter. They'll just lie about it anyway. I can't imagine the punishment of a fake daddy figure for not being honest will bother any of them.

It's about keeping power where it is right now.

And now there's drama about pens. *Head desk*

// Long story short when the "Oath Book" was signed at Bill Clinton's impeachment back in 1999 most all of the Senators kept the pens as souvenirs, but Mitch McConnell has already pissed and moaned about Pelosi handing out pens yesterday and....//

Oops. They only got 99 Senators in the Oath Net.

Senator James Ihofe (R-Oklahoma) was in his home state due to the illness of a family member. He is expected to return to Washington soon and take the Oath when he returns.

Everyone gets a pen. We're now locking the Senate Chamber doors and you guys get to fight to the death with your pens. When the screaming finally dies down we'll unlock the doors and whoever is left can tell us if Trump is guilty or not.

I too noticed the blatant breaking of the oath before taking it.

Will he still get a pen?

The best thing about the pen story is that Pelosi actually used all of the pens. Normally there'd be one or two used to do the signatures, and then copies of those handed out as souvenirs. This time, Pelosi actually used multiple pens for each signature, making a couple strokes with each before switching. My only question is, does it still count as a signature*, when you "sign" like that?

---
*Legally, I'm sure it counts. I'm interested in the philosophical implications.

The complaint from the republicans is that Impeachment is a serious issue and people should be "somber".

Yet they gave away pens during Clinton's impeachment.

So what does that mean? That Clinton's impeachment wasn't serious?

It's just another pointless check in the "Things Republicans are Hypocrites Checklist", a checklist that is so full at this point if it was ever going to make a difference it would have by now.

Now that being said, "souvenirs" for an impeachment is kind of weird just on a base level to me.

Delicate snowflakes.

I love the proximity of these two posts, Inhofe being the moron who carried a snowball onto the floor as proof global warming is a hoax.

Meanwhile, McConnell's little speech a couple of days ago about seriousness of the occasion made me want to puke.
