Sorry you can't do that. You (as in you Americans) elected Trump to the position he holds in your country. You decided to let him make these types of decisions.

Oh yeah, like Trump really represents the country because a minority of low-information voters were conned into electing him.

Besides, what do you have against Iran attacking Trump sites?

Someone mentioned here or in another thread that people who've lost their homes in other states were moving to California, since if you have to be homeless, it's better to not have to worry about freezing to death at night.
I wonder if there's any data on the number of homeless in "Democrat Party run cities" who are originally from Republican run states.

Homeless head to cities all over the country because that's where they can congregate with other homeless and that's where they have access to services. And as is well known, cities are bastions of liberals.

It's not all about the weather though we did see in Midnight Cowboy that some flee the cold. :( [OMG that movie came out in 1969!]

NYC homeless facts
In recent years, homelessness in New York City has reached the highest levels since the Great Depression of the 1930s. [IOW like increased homelessness all over the country]

In September 2019, there were 62,391 homeless people, including 14,962 homeless families with 22,083 homeless children, sleeping each night in the New York City municipal shelter system. Families make up more than two-thirds of the homeless shelter population.

Over the course of City fiscal year 2018, 133,284 different homeless men, women, and children slept in the New York City municipal shelter system. This includes over 45,600 different homeless New York City children.

And to bring it back to the White House, the White House family theater was installed in 1942.

The first X-rated movie to be shown in the White House?
Midnight Cowboy.

Well the thing is if you're homeless in a rural area you're often not counted precisely because you don't have access to services so you're not in any of "the systems."

But you're just a dumb redneck hick. I mean you're either homeless or live in a trailer what's the difference?

When you live outside the urban core "Homeless" means something different so you don't count. Again once everything stops being walking distance (I literally don't think a lot of people realize how much of a difference the sheer distance in country living is) shelters stop being option. You either just... die or basically "camp." In a lot of areas homeless literally mean "you live out in the woods in a tarpaper shack or in the basement of a church because the nearest 'homeless shelter' would be a 3 hour bus ride from you."

We had a homeless shelter where I grew up. It was a shanty town built around an old camper someone had abandoned in the woods.

Think about that. You don't have access to enough resources to be "homeless." You'd have to "Pack it up and move to 'Beverly" to be homeless. You're the homeless version of a tree falling in a forest with no where to hear it.

Well, the first one they admit to. Wouldn't surprise me if a few of the presidents used the theater to screen more "adult" content. Just imagine Nixon watching porn movies. (Try getting THAT image out of your head!)

Although to nitpick... when it was released, Midnight Cowboy got an X rating, but the NC-17 rating had not been created by then. (I think retroactively, Midnight Cowboy has been assigned NC-17, and probably would have got that in the first place if it were available at the time.)

The film got a R rating during it's 1971 re-issue, which is the rating it still holds. I don't believe it ever officially held an NC-17.

Yes, I think you're right... my apologies. I was going by memory.

After doing some googling, it looks like Midnight Cowboy was never submitted for classification (so it got the "X" rating by default.) It got the R rating later on, after it had become popular enough.

Not sure what rating it would have gotten had NC-17 been available at the time.

Not to sound like a broken record, but Trump was elected by a minority of American voters. His opponent received almost three million more votes then Trump did (48%-46%). He won the presidency only because of an electoral system the U.S. has that favors states over individuals. Trump did win a majority of states, despite losing the overall popular vote. Even then his winning margin was less than 200,000 votes out of over 130 million votes cast, a margin of, if my math is correct (it usually isn't), less than 0.15%.

And, after the election of Boris, I think the "People who live in glass houses, etc" rule comes into play here.

Midnight Cowboy would not raise an eyebrow today. It has ,in fact, pretty much been shown intact on Network TV in the US.

This is his standard (and only) negotiating technique - be as belligerent as possible, and people will be kind and give you a low offer.

In practice, it never seems to work on equals - people in business generally told him to **** off because they could find someone else. Cities tend to simply accept a certain amount of homelessness by harassing and arresting the homeless instead of, you know, putting them in the ample housing that sits empty, so they'll likely ignore him.

In international relations, "**** off" usually has far more serious consequences, as we've seen. ANd no, he's not negotiating with Iran, he's throwing a tantrum.

The last thing most cities want to do is arrest the homeless because it costs much more to incarcerate people than it does to house them. The exception is wealthier suburbs and some rural towns. They take the approach they can harass the homeless into moving on. Even the homeless don't want to be arrested.

Homeless are often dumped onto cities by wealthier ( and often Republican) communities. Greyhound Therapy, City Line Drop offs, putting their halfway houses into the cities, etc. etc.

It’s a standard tactic: push ‘em onto the other side of the table and say their side is a mess.

Yep.

"Not doing anything to support them/harassing them into moving on" is a policy unto itself.

The fact that people move from those areas to where resources are available is not solely a result of the policy of making resources available.

I seriously doubt we want the full consequences of everyplace enacting the former policy.

Essentially herding unwanted people elsewhere and then complaining about how 'elsewhere' got so full of unwanted people...yeah, that's about what I expect from conservative thought.

And so it begins....

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards hit Al-Asad Airbase with at least 10 rockets in retaliation for Solemeini's death.

ETA: The question now is what the hell is Trump going to do? You know he's going to retaliate; he has to have the last word and look like the Big Tough Guy. He's lucky his bone spurs don't keep him from playing General.

Every few months, some city or other tries the "Free One-Way Bus Ticket for Homeless People Plan" to get homeless people out of their cities. It usually lasts right up to the moment that they realize that other cities can give homeless people bus tickets too. In any case, voluntary relocation is rarely useful. Most homeless people are in the geographic area they are in for one reason or another.

I swear, just after I think Trump couldn't be a bigger idiot, he proves me wrong.
