The Trump Presidency: Part 18

I never understood wind. You know, I know windmills very much. Gases are spewing into the atmosphere. You know we have a world, right? So the world is tiny compared to the universe. So tremendous, tremendous amount of fumes & everything.

I'll have a go at translating this into English:

I've never understood the left's obsession with wind power. Obviously, because of my comprehensive engineering and scientific knowledge I know all about wind turbines, which is why I don't understand the left's obsession - after all they kill birds and cause cancer.

I also think that the left is stupid to obsess about global warming and there are so many natural processes contributing to greenhouse gases that even if global warming were real (and it's not), it's down to natural, not man-made factors.

Furthermore our world is tiny in the great scheme of things and the idea that humans could have that kind of effect when the universe is so huge is ridiculous. Sunspots and solar cycles have a far greater impact on climate than humans ever could.

Any of our resident trumpkins care to explain to us how this person (I refuse to call him a man) is fit for the presidency?

You know, I'm never sure if he's doing this sort of thing on purpose.

If he is, it's really stupid.

If he's not, HE'S REALLY, REALLY STUPID.

In a training environment, I would see trainees write about finding a vehicle “partially striped by the side of the road.” I would correct them, of course, but internally wonder about how our schools were currently teaching phonics. I know the the difference in “striped/stripped” is firmly ingrained in me. And Trump likely went to much better schools than did I.

So what’s his excuse? My money is still on cognitive decline.

Seems to me he's complaining about the foreign windmill factories producing greenhouse gasses.

And...killing bald eagles??

Also, Trump's claims of wind farms being giant reapers of birds by the truckload is not backed up by any facts...as is usual for Donny. It does seem that his "special power" is exaggeration, or lying through his ******* teeth.

Trump could hand out turds, call them chocolate bars, and his supporters would eat them while saying they're delicious.

Yes. This is from a speech he gave today to a conservative group, Turning Point USA Student Action Summit:

What is quite amusing is that, just after Trump says this, an audience member yells out "Because they’re idiots!" How's that for irony?

ETA: The man is incapable of maintaining a coherent thought. He rambles all over the place. He sounds like a drunk on COPS.

ETA: Read the entire speech if you really want an excuse to bang your head on the desk. It's truly a marvel of stupidity. Ironically, every time he opens his gob, he just makes Obama look better and better.
No the irony is he makes Bush the second sound statesman like.

It's the difference between incompetence and maliciousness.

George W. Bush was a bad President and when you are operating on the level of leader of a 1st World Global Superpower incompetence isn't exactly a minor and totally forgivable sin, but even back when he was in the big seat I always argued he wasn't malicious, just a grade-A goober who surrounded himself with some outright evil people high up in his administration.

Trump? No the pain and the damage and the anger is the point.

George W. Bush would stammering and stutter through a speech and come out looking stupid. Trump basically stands there and says thing with the explicit intended and admitted purposes of pissing people off.

It's the difference between the restaurant getting your order wrong... twice and the restaurant looking you straight in the eye, spitting in your burger, and then handing it to you with a "What? What are you going to do about it?" look on their face.

It's a different world in rural America. Diversity is non-existent. The number of radio stations are limited. Almost entirely Christian, country or right wing talk stations.

The echo chamber goes on for hundreds of miles.
A big might might be rural internet. But on the other hand, with Fox News the main news source (they are hooked up with local TV that gives local news) as a starting point they would not branch out much.

"We don't want any stinking windmills here, they are ugly and Trump thinks they come from China."

My VERY quick-and-dirty calculation:

A family of 4 with an income of $73000 in 2017 could have taken a standard deduction of $12700 and 4 exemptions at $4050 each, leaving them to pay income tax on about $44000. This left them with a tax bill of around $5700.

Following the 2018 rules, they could have taken a standard deduction of $24000, leaving them to pay income tax on about $49000. This left them with a tax bill of around $5500.

If I've done this correctly, they saved about $200 rather than $2000.
Thanks.

I DIDN'T do this correctly. Since I don't have children, I didn't think about the child tax credit, which was increased. So the $2000 tax savings may inf fact be correct.

I travel a lot and inevitably have breakfast or lunch in a lot of small town diners. In some ways I love it. The food is almost always great. And generally, the people are friendly. But there is also almost always a tv on and it is always tuned to FOX.

But I will say this. Almost none of them care about windmills or the incandescent light bulbs. Trump has a hard on against Windmills. Hes been fighting them for years. In that way Trump is like Don Quixote fighting the giants that turn out to be windmills. Trump fought them from being built off the coast of Scotland where they might be seen from his golf course. He lost that battle and Trump being Trump, still holds a moronic grudge against them.
