The Trump Presidency: Part 18

Just because...

I have off and on watched the rhetoric in the House on the impeachment vote. We have heard the same arguments on both sides over and over again. Representatives appear to just want their comments in the record, with nothing new to be offered. As an independent, one thing that struck me is that many Republican speakers resorted to name-calling. Sometimes aimed at Democrats specifically or sometimes at the media, sometimes at those who testified. But I did not witness any Democratic speakers resorting to name-calling of those across the aisle. This president often uses bullying, name-calling and lying as part of his daily tweets. This is conduct that we would admonish in our children and grandchildren for exhibiting. So it seems that President Trump has brought the Republican party down to his level. The respect and decorum that should be utilized among our representatives has been forgotten. This conduct is way beneath what we should expect from our president or elected representatives.

Republican civility in action!

To put the record straight, the law on new efficiency requirements was passed in 2007 during President George W. Bush’s administration.

These days LED lights are cheap, particularly given their life expectancy. Even got 'em at the dollar store. I'm almost entirely over to LEDs now, just one pair of display lights in the hutch left. Unfortunately, nothing comparative in LEDs yet. Fortunately even with the relaxation of the efficiency requirements the market still seems to be heading the right way.

Yes. To surprise of some, no doubt, the US is not the world. The (rest of the) world still requires high efficiency.

Filament bulbs are simply obsolete. They don't last very long. They use more electricity and before long they'll be more expensive to manufacture than their modern equivalents. Not only that, if you are orange, they make you look more orangy.

If you like your lightbulbs, you can keep your lightbulbs! The Obama Admin tried to limit Americans to buying more-expensive LED bulbs for their homes—but thanks to President @realDonaldTrump, go ahead and decorate your house with whatever lights you want.

How in the actual **** is the fact that our president, controller of our nuclear arsenal is bat shirt crazy not a bipartisan issue? Do Trump supporters think they'll get extra rations of canned food and shotgun shells after the crazy **** ends civilization? Seriously, how does keeping nutter boy in the Whitehouse make sense to you people?

Trump proves again just how big a moron he is.

This might have been an issue when Obama pushed the end of incandescents 7 years ago. People complained then. But people stopped complaining. LEDs are so cheap now, there isn't a good reason to stick with the older energy wasting bulbs.

Because 40% of Americans are bat shirt crazy too.

Here's an article Democrats might find helpful. It's titled "Biden Just Lost The Election":

Townhall: Where washed up GOPers go to write crap that few read.

Root writes "...Obama-Biden..." How many times between 2008-16 did you read the previous administration called that? Never, maybe?

Also, any time a pundit writes "Trust me, ..." I immediately lock all the doors.

Townhall is where I go to keep abreast of the crazy that is the present conservative movement. It's hilarious and quite sad at the same time.

Here's yet another article about why the right-wing is so enamored with Trump. Yeah, there are a million of them but this one takes at look in the context of talk radio. I've never seen that specifically addressed before - it's a good article.

That was what we call "clickbait".

Do you have any idea just how many articles are out there with headlines that say the opposite? I get a link every other day from the Young Turks and the Majority Report. For example, I got one today that said "Military abandoning Trump".

When you're in an echo chamber, it's not surprising your opinions become even more cemented. In most parts of the country, right wing radio shows abound but you'd be hard pressed to find a progressive show.

Someone I knew a good 35+ years ago in California was always moderately conservative but no where near a Trumper style conservative. About 15 years ago, he moved to Idaho...land of 'the gubment and libtards are out to get us' mentality. He's gone full Trumper. His son's FB page has been suspended numerous times due to its radical content and he could be a poster boy for the stereotypical Trumper.

$1000 bucks more is about what it was for me. The thing is my tax return was about the same as it has been. It was just the withholding from the check that was lower. By about $50 every two weeks. So since it is more distributive over time it may not be as readily noticeable or stand out as much over time as you quickly get used to it. $25 a week is basically my lunch money or my booze money, take your pick (of days on or days off).

OK, sounds about right

It's a different world in rural America. Diversity is non-existent. The number of radio stations are limited. Almost entirely Christian, country or right wing talk stations.

The echo chamber goes on for hundreds of miles.

In very broad terms, yes.
Some are so stupid as to believe that the US could win a nuclear exchange and there would be no ill effects on us.
Some are pre-tribulationists and think that they are the exact type of Christian that God will float up to heaven before the AntiChrist is released.
I suppose some think he is not bat-guano crazy.
I figure the rest are the folks who, Upon learning that POTUS shot someone in Fifth Ave, would ask who it was before deciding whether or not to be upset; they might ask, well, who did we attack, before deciding whether tossing nukes around the Northern Hemisphere was a good or bad idea. I think they might even ask were more Muslims over there killed than Christians were killed over here.

Trump Says

I never understood wind. You know, I know windmills very much. Gases are spewing into the atmosphere. You know we have a world, right? So the world is tiny compared to the universe. So tremendous, tremendous amount of fumes & everything.
