The Trump Presidency: Part 18

He does seem to have a very narrow range of sources. Most of the reports I have seen have been quite disparaging of his letter. Then again I inhabit a "reality" bubble as opposed to the "fantasy" bubble where President Trump and his supporters seem to reside.

I have an alternate explanation. Chances are very decent that he has seen the jeers and the claim that it gets high marks is in reaction to that.

Your post reminded me how often I see folks on the internet claim that the Democrats never allow room for freethinkers, that they are insistent that everyone think the same way. I guess that is one more example of their projection.

"Freethinkers" when its a self-serving description for "nonsensical conspiracy theorists," perhaps. Otherwise, yes, it's projection. Really friggin' obvious projection, given how big a tent the Democratic Party is.

Anyways, to poke at a couple other things...

FOX News Senior Legal Analyst on Trump: 'The Remedy of Impeachment is Acutely Needed'

It's no surprise that Fox has been refusing to let him speak on Fox about the impeachment.

Romney campaign adviser: Republicans now intent on extinguishing the very concept of truth

He's perhaps a little late realizing that.

Trump continues his vendetta against Puerto Rico, by slashing Medicaid funding.

Yes, Trump personally intervened again to screw Puerto Rico over.

Inspectors warn unsafe pork could make its way to consumers under Trump rule change
The new system will speed up the processing lines and reduce the number of inspectors.

ALBERT LEA, Minnesota — America's food inspectors are warning that "unsafe" pork is likely making it to consumers under a change in rules for meat inspection.

That change is now set to roll out nationwide to plants that process more than 90 percent of the pork Americans eat.

"The consumer's being duped," Food Safety and Inspection Service inspector Jill Mauer told NBC News. "They believe that it actually is getting federally inspected when there's no one there to even watch or do anything about anything."

Beef's next up, apparently.

He was too busy standing in front of a crowd in Michigan telling a Congresswoman that her husband is in Hell.

I was just coming here to post that.

President Donald Trump attacked Democratic Rep. Debbie Dingell and her late husband, Rep. John Dingell, during a rally on Wednesday, implying the former congressman was "looking up" from hell.

"Debbie Dingell, that's a real beauty," Trump said of the congresswoman, noting he was watching her on television during impeachment proceedings.

Trump said that he gave the family the "A-plus treatment" after John Dingell died, and that the congresswoman, who now holds his seat in the House, told Trump during an emotional call following John Dingell's funeral that her husband would have been "thrilled" by the respect shown for him during his funeral and "he's looking down" on the ceremonies.

"Maybe he's looking up," Trump said, drawing some moans and groans from those in Battle Creek, Michigan, about two hours away from Debbie Dingell's district. "Maybe, but let's assume he's looking down."

A real beauty, showing what matters to him. He gave the family A-Plus treatment, making it about him, as usual. And then the classy wrap-up.

Moans and groans? Is it possible Donnie went too far? But he's a showman, he immediately back-tracked.

"Maybe, but let's assume he's looking down."

Sorry, gotta do it:

When recounting her initial call, he used the "She said, Sir..." blurb, indicating that whatever he was saying at the moment was a lie.

I'm actually glad they're openly saying stuff like this, because it can only cost them votes. Everyone who is still voting GOP, but who isn't a complete Trumpista, will see exactly how welcome they are in the Party of Trump, and at least a few of them simply have to conclude that they should, therefore, stop being in that party.
Or they'll conclude that they should fall in line and start acting like complete Trumpistas.

The hilarious part about that though is that Trump didn't actually do anything for Dingell's funeral, except for the formality of ordering flags to half-mast, which is simply standard for all dead former Congressmen. As with McCain, Trump is claiming credit for Dingell lying-in-state and the funeral service when these things are in fact conferred by Congress and the president is never even consulted, let alone required to give permission.

And yet Trump is insinuating that because "he gave" her husband an "A+" funeral, it's treachery for Dingell to support his impeachment.

I did say "at least a few", not "all". Besides which, if they're already voting for him, it's not like they can vote for him even more (at least, not yet, I hope). So like I said, this can't get them more votes, but it can cost them votes. And it won't take many lost votes to flip a few key states. Let's not forget that he only got in by winning a few states with just a few thousand votes. Anything they do that risks that thin margin of victory is a good thing.

Debbie Dingell also said that it was Trump who called her and not she who called him. He claimed he also offered to have Dingell's body lie in state under the Capitol rotunda. That is not the president's decision, but Congress's. So more lies from the Liar in Chief. As Nancy Pelosi said,

What the president misunderstands is that cruelty is not wit. Just because he gets a laugh for saying the cruel things that he says doesn't mean he's funny. It's not funny at all. It’s very sad.

These same people, who purport to be Christians, continue to support and idolize a petty, vengeful, cruel, corrupt adulterer. "Chosen One" my patootie.

Because he's already gift wrapped them two Supreme Court Justices and he almost without fail with give them 1 or 2 more. That's a solid stage for a Theocracy for the rest of many of our lives.

They aren't (that kind of) stupid. They know as well as you or me that Trump couldn't walk past a church without bursting into flame. But when you're aren't as worried about cause purity you can get a lot more out of people.

Veterans continue to support Trump (hell, they give him their Purple Hearts!) even though he had to admit to stealing $2 million from them.

No. I don't think they know that Trump couldn't walk past a church without bursting into flame. They idolize him. They applaud and cheer for him at rallies when he insults and disparages people. They defend his behavior and his lies. It's more than just giving them SC judges.
