I suspect Trump dictated the equivalent of a 40 page letter but almost all of it was rambling, incoherent, self pitying tripe. Someone at the White House did a massive super cut, changed the meter, cleaned it up, but left in his laughable ‘points’ so he would approve the final product.
He was adamant that someone should offer an alternative perspective so I bit the bullet and gave an angle on it. Take it or leave it. Theres not really any argument that trump didnt do anything wrong. But the impeachability of what he did hinges on intent. And the inquiry has made no effort on that distinction.
It's on the democrats to make their case regardless. They're the ones handling the inquiry. They've spent several weeks going back and forth on the bribery issue. They've changed the nature of the charges several times while drafting their impeachment articles and have made the inquiry practically a circus.
That may not mean anything to you, but independents may think otherwise. On top of that, Nadler et al seem to hold the belief that they dont trust voters to make the 'right decision' to remedy the issue in the 2020 elections so theres that as well...
Messaging101... this is imo only going to hurt them. Even more so if trump is eventually acquitted
"Good marks". Do you think Melanie gave him a gold star sticker?
good marks, not great.
Your counter argument about equal blame is a fallacy and a strawman though. The democrats, or rather nadler in particular have made an extravaganza making political theater (remember his big 'parody' read on the ukraine transcripts?), his drama play in the actual impeachment hearings just last week. Having control over the process in the house of representatives of the impeachment inquiry and presenting witnesses that are largely hearsay and havent help their case in persuading public opinion aside from those that already agreed with impeachment to begin with... making a huge deal out of bribery before they even debated its inclusion into the impeachment articles... pushing a 'sky is falling' narrative about how Trump is a dictator and a tyrant...Actually no they haven't.
The people who have made the inquiry a circus are the Republicans, with their sit-in pizza party (to protest a closed hearing that they could have attended), demands to talk to witnesses that are at best irrelevant and at worse illegal (such as the whistleblower), Trump's regular barrage of tweets and lies, etc.
For the most part, the Democrats have been treating the proceedings with the required decorum... they haven't resorted to the bizarre rhetoric that the republicans have, or engaged in the stunts that the Republicans have. The fact that there was a question over what articles of impeachment to include is not some 'circus', but a rational debate over what charges were most relevant, what could stand the most scrutiny.
Sadly, it is true that some people have come away with the thought that "its both side's fault". Its wrong for them to think that, but sadly there is no easy way to eliminate that incorrect notion.
Are you for real?
The Democrats have presented the facts. Not the facts as they see them, but the admitted facts that are not being contested. The facts are enough to impeach the president, as he solicited foreign interference in the 2020 election. There are no question marks there. He did it. His spokesgoblin admitted it on tv. Nobody is denying that he did it. Every other concern is secondary.

As for it being the Democrats that are making the impeachment hearings a circus, I can only assume you are deliberately gaslighting.
Trump's is undoubtedly the most deserved impeachment in US history. Nixon wasn't this bad. That Republicans won't vote to convict is because the Republican party is now the party of open corruption.
The impeachability aspect hinges on whether or not his intent in making the phone call was purely for his personal gain and whether he bribed the president of Ukraine to force them to investigate the Bidens.
They obviously have had trouble making the bribery case if they amended the impeachment articles to the point of in not being the primary offense.
By the way, your 'gaslighting' claim is also a strawman.
I've said before that trumps call to Ukraine places him in the wrong. Democrats could have gotten some bipartisanship on a censure of him. But the impeachment is political. Pelosi knew this, and for her part she only went this far because of the left wing base in her caucus
Did he try to twist Zelensky's arm to get him to investigate Joe and Hunter Biden? Absolutely he did. Everyone agrees to that.
Good post overall, but the above is simply not true.
I’ve seen and heard more than a few Republicans simply NOT agree with that.

A winter’s day
In a deep and dark December
I am alone
Gazing from my window
To the streets below
On a freshly fallen, silent shroud of snow
I am a rock
I am an island
I’ve built a wall
More or less, steep and mighty
That none may penetrate
I have no need of friendship
Friendship causes pain
It’s laughter and it’s loving I disdain
I am a rock
I am an island
Don’t talk of love
Well, I’ve heard the word before
It’s sleeping in my memory
I won’t disturb the slumber
Of feelings that have died
If I never loved, I never would have cried
I am a rock
I am an island
I have my looks
And my phone and Tweets to protect me
I am shielded in my armor
Hiding in my room
Safe within my womb
I touch no one and no one touches me
I am a rock
I am an island
And a rock feels no pain
And an island never cries
I see your point, although I would contend that what they are actually doing is downplaying rather than denying.

I heard a female representative clearly say that Trump did not ask Zelinsky to investigate the Bidens. When presented with the actual quote from the transcript, she said “He did not say that”, or words to that effect. Similar to Trump asserting that he never said that Mexico would pay for the wall.
It’s stunning, but it happens.
