Jeffrey Epstein arrested for child sex trafficking

No, in the world of the likes of Prince Andrew, they are indeed loyal to their friends (cf Lord Lucan). When Andrew says he was merely being honourable, strangely enough, he was probably telling the truth, when anyone else in this digital age might have sent a text or blocked them on Facebook.

I'm trying to remember the last time I stayed at a convicted criminal's house for four days just to honourably break off our friendship.

And my inability to bend over backwards for this absurd defense is why he should have never done the interview. After Epstein's death the honourable thing to do would have been to sequester the Prince for at least 5 years. No press or interviews whatsoever. That is what honourable looks like.

Now some discrepancy about when Prince Andrew first met Epstein. Prince Andrew was claiming it was 1999, but now a letter from 2011 written by his private secretary says it was the early 90s.

A claim by Prince Andrew during his controversial BBC interview to have first met the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in 1999 has been thrown into doubt after it emerged that the duke’s previous chief of staff said the two men met in “the early 1990s”.

The claim was made by Alastair Watson, the prince’s private secretary for nine years until 2012, who wrote a letter to the Times in 2011 in order to reject reports that the Duke was a friend of Saif Gaddafi, son of the former Libyan dictator.

Addressing reports at the time about the prince’s relationship with Epstein, Watson said the two men were introduced in the early 1990s and that “insinuations and innuendos” about Andrew were without foundation.

Meanwhile, sponsors are rapidly distancing themselves from the Prince, and he is stepping back from official duties for the foreseeable future.

No, it's true. Once I took my girlfriend on a cruise in order to break up with her. The last 3 or 4 days weren't awkward at all.

Amazing, but Andrew's actually coming across worse in reality than the parody depiction of him on "The Windsors"! Which I recommend, btw, it's on Netflix. It's extremely silly but fun.

No, what I said was: 'Until there is news he has actually done anything wrong other than being stupid, I can't add my voice to the outraged virtue-signalling going on.'

Sorry if you don't like it. <shrug>

I don't like the fact that you're avoiding admitting you were wrong about the males of the royal family not drinking. If you have a source which supports your original statement, please present it, otherwise withdraw it. I would suggest it would be prudent in future to flag up what is purely your opinion and what is based on evidence.

He has now decided to step down to spend more time sweating over undearage girls.

That's nothing. I once traveled to England to spend three weeks backpacking around the UK with my girlfriend, in order to break up with her. I plumbed depths of not-awkward-at-all that most fools would never dream of.

It gets better, too.

We'd pre-ordered tickets to a big concert in the spring, at a venue in Los Angeles. So, after we broke up, I traveled to LA to spend 3-4 days in her apartment so we could go to the concert together. That date was one of the most not-awkward-at-all experiences of my life.

Best part:
The concert itself was good, and afterwards we were rocking a pretty strong "still friends" vibe. So strong, in fact, that she felt comfortable confessing to me, "I know we broke up, but I was at a party last weekend and kissed another guy, and I feel guilty about it. I'm sorry."

I replied, "don't feel guilty! That's totally fine. In fact, I started dating one of your friends a couple weeks ago, so really you have nothing to apologize about."

Needless to say, things got exponentially not-awkward from there.

Not just any sort of criminal. Not everything which is criminal should be so.

Super rich dudes have all sorts of ways of getting high-end escorts of verifiable legal age if they want. This stuff was something much darker.

When you are in a chat forum I suggest you assume things are people's opinions.

It was common currency the princes didn't drink and Prince Andrew confirmed it. He was quoted some years ago saying they only drank martini or dubonnet and that was about it.

If you don't believe it that's too bad.

Utter nonsense.

Phillip drinks and his favourite is reputedly beer, especially Boddington's, though he'll drink 'nice' stuff at official functions.

Charles' favourite is Laphroaig 15-year-old malt. His grandfather was also a whisky drinker.

As has been mentioned Andrew's nephews certainly have form on the boozing front.
And we know Queen Elizabeth was downing her first Dubonnet and gin by 10am.

And he is retiring from public life.

One down, only about another dozen to go!

Yes it was. Whilst the Andrew crap is amusing in some ways, you have reminded me how serious this really is. I'll leave my light hearted comments in place as I did post them. Thanks.

The Queen Mother yeah, she didn't have any metabolism issues.

When you see the Royals quaffing champagne, beer or malt whisky at a public engagement you shouldn't believe they carry on like this at home.

Charles has all his organic stuff, including beers, so he has to be seen endorsing it.

Madness has run in the royal family as a result of inherited genetic defects in metabolism. The fact of Prince Andrew claiming he does not drink, is not as preposterous as you might think.
