House Impeachment Inquiry

When you can't shake the what the witnesses are testifying to, resort to attacking the witnesses. Those Republican Congressmen have been desperate to try to impugn Vindman and at attack his credibility.

You have dual loyalties.
You didn't follow your chain of command.
You overstated your importance.

He has been totally unshakable, and they have made themselves look like idiots.

He has, but doubtless Fox and other right wing outlets will have a completely different message. Brave Republicans trying to frustrate a Democrat coup attempt and undermining a deep state appointee who has dual loyalties and is likely a Ukrainian mole.

Trump is apparently whining about Vindman wearing a uniform.

I just read that serving officers are required to wear dress uniform on such occasions. In which case the questioner was wrong to refer to him as "Mr Vindman"

Vindman was not required to. Many officers are, but his position on the National Security Council affords him discretion. Regulations did not require him to wear or to not wear his uniform, the choice was up to him.

Vindman just now saying why he felt that his dad shouldn't worry because Vindman was challenging the most powerful person in the world: "Because this is America. . . . Truth matters." Hope I got that right.

He's stating that from the perspective of someone with a military background. For liberals like me old enough to remember how little the military was respected in the 60s and 70s, one silver lining in the s***-storm that is this presidency is that liberals might find some common cause with that military perspective.

Not sure if this was reported on earlier (given how fast the thread sometimes moves):

From: https://www.cnn.com/2019/11/18/politics/donald-trump-never-trump-white-house-staff/index.html
President Donald Trump's aides have explored moving some impeachment witnesses on loan to the White House from other agencies, such as Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, back to their home departments ahead of schedule...Trump is asking anew how witnesses such as Vindman and Ambassador Bill Taylor came to work for him...He has suggested again they be dismissed, even as advisers warn him firing them could be viewed as retaliation. The possible move of officials out of the White House could still be viewed by some as evidence of retribution for their testimony.

Trump has a dog's mind: everything that exists only gets evaluated on how well it treats the dog or what the dog gets from it. Anything that has no interaction with the dog does not exist.

This is a horrible misrepresentation of the heart of dogs! Dogs are altruistic to the fault of having no boundaries and slobbering all over you.

Your better analog is Cats!

Good choice, don't you think?

Among the worst of the worst today was the constant questioning of Vindman's loyalties to the US and the awful question of which language did he speak with a Ukranian cabinet member, English or Ukranian. They still don't get that even in the US it wouldn't matter as there is no official language there. That was a real low blow among many others, all handled with grace by Vindman

Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, Personal Courage. That's the Army's LeaDRSHIP mnemonic. Not that they always live up to it, but decent ones to strive towards none-the-less. And some that the current Commander-in-Chief takes a dump on pretty much daily (if not hourly).

It seems, in my opinion, it must be that it triggers Trump, because it is another reminder that Trump avoided any military service. I think the contrast of his military uniform, and all that it represents, sticks in Trumps claw.

I have no criticism whatsoever of a soldier who chooses to wear his uniform for official engagements of any kind. I always wore my uniform for such things (jury duty, when a witness in a civilian trial or a civilian court of inquiry etc).

(And yes, before you ask, I worked at Def HQ in Wellington for a year, so I am aware that the wearing of uniform for defence personnel is optional, and I chose to wear it while I worked there)

Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity & Personal Courage. These are qualities Lt Col Vindman would have needed to display to even be considered for appointment to a position such as he holds with the NSC. Further, he would have to show those qualities in spades to actually get such an appointment.

Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, Personal Courage. These are qualities that Trump has no concept or understanding of. He did everything he could to avoid serving in the military... that makes him a coward.

I consider myself a Democrat who is liberal on some issues and less so on others. And while I believe we spend too much on the military and I don't always agree with military actions I do support the men and women who serve. More often than not I find them to be highly principled individuals.

And that I admire in anyone.

No tweets at all from Trump today. Just a barrage of retweets from various supporters praising him or repeating the no crime stuff.
