The Trump Presidency: Part 18

Th flip side, from Time magazine:
If President Trump’s efforts to coerce Ukraine into interfering with American democracy had stayed a secret until the 2020 election–if a whistle-blower hadn’t spoken out–we would have fundamentally, perhaps irrevocably, lost faith in the legitimacy of our republic.

That is why there is no choice but to impeach and remove Trump: because he was willing to undermine our democracy to help his prospects of re-election; because he has stated, unapologetically, that he would do it again; and most important, because he wielded the powers of his office for personal benefit instead of for the benefit of the people. Link

That makes it sound like Trump is the one subverting democracy. Duh.

What's sad is that it makes them look better than her anyhow.
To those who believe what she says. I wouldn't believe anything that woman says without documentary evidence, and even with it I'd be cautious.

Trump probably believes her because he relishes victimhood and is ill-disposed to Kelly and Tillerson.

Trump Tweets

In order to continue being the most Transparent President in history, I will be releasing sometime this week the Transcript of the first, and therefore most important, phone call I had with the President of Ukraine. I am sure you will find it tantalizing!

Schiff and the Dems have created this whole thing, they reverse engineer it. They’ve been vowing to impeach for three years. Why should we listen to them? Why should we want to?”
@greggutfeld @FoxNews

“The President has until September 30th to give this aid to Ukraine. He gets it out on September 11th., 3 weeks before the deadline. So, we give our ally aid, and Joe Biden is not investigated. Remember that, they get the aid and we get nothing in return. The Democrats....

....want that to be an impeachable offense? Good luck with that!”
@JesseBWatters @FoxNews

“This isn’t about Ukraine. This isn’t about Impeachment. This is about subverting Democracy!”
@BillOReilly
So true, and led by angry and dishonest people who hate themselves, and must hate our Country!
Trump had nothing to do with this tweet in any shape or form. Who has his phone today? Mulvaney? Miller?

Senator John Kennedy (R-Dumb****istan) says

The quid pro quo, in my judgment, is a red herring. Here are the two possible scenarios. Number one, the president asked for an investigation of a political rival. Number two, the president asked for an investigation of possible corruption by someone who happens to be a political rival. The latter would be in the national interest. The former would be in the president’s parochial interests and would be over the line. I think this case is going to come down to the president’s intent — his motive. Did he have a culpable state of mind? For me … there are only two relevant questions that need to be answered. Why did the president ask for an investigation? And number two, and this is inextricably linked to the first question, what did Mr. Hunter Biden do for the money?

Well, he framed the issue properly. We should get past whether or not this is a quid pro quo. It was, as Mulvaney accidentally confessed. I engaged in a quid pro quo with a Mexican restaurant yesterday: I forked over money in exchange for a burrito.

His question number two about Hunter Biden is pathetic. If Hunter Biden did nothing wrong, they're still going to argue the president THOUGHT he did, so he was acting in the best interests of 'merica. If Crackhead Biden was engaged in wrong-doing, then all of our PROCESS-oriented Republicans will condemn Trump for acting outside of proper channels.

IT'S NONSENSE.

There is no reason to believe that Trump wasn't trying to sink his political opponent. Most important to Trump was for Zelensky going to a microphone announcing that Ukraine was investigating Biden, not that they were ACTUALLY dealing with corruption.

Oh, you know the administration is REALLY concerned about corruption. That's why they've been withholding financial aid to countries all over the world.

Oh wait, they haven't been? It was only Ukraine? Well, that makes sense. I'm sure Ukraine is the only corrupt country in the world.

(Apparently, democratic questioning has gone this direction, highlighting the lunacy of the claim that they were just concerned about corruption)

I'm struck by the comparison of Donald Trump in the middle of impeachment hearings and probably least honorable person to ever reside at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and President Carter, probably the most honorable President in history in the hospital for brain surgery.

(Whether you liked Jimmy Carter's policies or not, no one ever besmirched his character)

It's rather self-aggrandizing to say "I'm the one important people courted to put things right."
Unless you are talking about Trump I don't understand your take on things.

Suppose a surgeon started in your hospital and everyone with experience and skill could see he was incompetent. That's how I see Kelly's and Tillerson's reaction.

I'm not sure how positioning herself as the one to put a lid on Trump's shenanigans marks her as trying to promote her career with him and those who support him.
:confused:

She snitched on Kelly and Tillerson instead of joining them. Seemed to me she had political ambitions and calculated it best to stay with Trump.

But I have no idea what is on Haley's mind.

This is one of Trump's more panic ridden posts.

Kennedy backed himself into a bit of a corner when called on to answer, was using Zelensky to get dirt on Biden was an impeachable offense? He said yes. So now is only out is to claim it didn't happen. He can't now say Trump did it but it's not bad enough to impeach him.

What is it with the topic of Trump and dogs?

My guess is that it is related to the fact that he's a germaphobe and thinks dogs are carriers. Too bad that Barron doesn't have a great big, sloppy Basset hound that he could bring to the Oval Office. :)

Hay Americans, you guys are screwed. Trump will get in for another 4 looooong years, which is 5 years from now. Who knows what the USA will look like by the end of that. When he gets in again it will only get worse too, OMG imagine his tweets after the win. lol

Edit: I have got so frustrated and sick with his lying and contemptuous nature and the way other political figures supposedly with some level of intelligence fawn all over him. The only way to cope now is to give thanks he's not my president and laugh about the absurdity of it all.

I don't think he'll win another election. I think as much as trump's bizarre ranting at rallies charges up his base, so do his bizarre rantings on twitter and on camera charge up the Democratic voters such that they will be less apathetic in the next election (when there was 'no way people would vote an orange asshat like trump in as president over a seasoned and experienced politician who would become the first woman president').

Unless there is a significant economic downturn before the election, I think President Trump's reelection prospects are comfortably more than 50% because:

  • Incumbents tend to get reelected unless something exceptional happens during their tenure and/or they are running against an exceptional candidate
  • President Trump's support is more or less exactly where it was when he was elected
  • The Democratic candidates are old and relatively uninspiring IMO
  • The Republicans are making extraordinary efforts to try as suppress the Democratic Party vote
  • Left-leaning third party candidates will poach support from the Democratic Party

It's quite possible that he'll lose the popular vote by an even wider margin and get a lower proportion of the vote, and still come out victorious - not least because in the key states, the GOP controls the election process.
