2020 Democratic Candidates Tracker - Part II

I don't think Hillary was a very good candidate. Even though I believe she would have made a good President. But as much as I think she wasn't a good candidate, I'm not convinced the Democrats could have nominated a better one. Really, is Joe Biden a better one? Is there a Barack Obama or a Bill Clinton among them?

Arguing the past if as if we changed one of the parameters is kind of ridiculous. It's the very definition of Monday morning quarterbacking.

So getting back to the thread and tying that in, I'll say it again, if the candidate we choose doesn't recognize how Trump won and how to come back against those social media and mainstream media propaganda tactics, Trump (if he's not impeached) could win again.

He could get impeached and still win!

Exactly why we shouldn't run Hillary II, aka Biden.
People are confusing Biden being ahead in the polls with having strong support. He doesn't. It's just that the other candidates are splitting the vote.

I imagine Warren will continue rising.

If she wins the primary and Trump is not impeached it's going to be a close election. If Trump is hated enough, Warren could get elected. I doubt her or Sanders could win against a normal GOP candidate combined with a propaganda assault on socialism.

I do believe they could win against Pence but that's not based on a lot of evidence. I can picture the GOP chomping at the bit to start that propaganda campaign against socialism.

That is pretty damned sexist. Dilute our disagreement to the sex of the participants.

[snipped gratuitous insult]
It has nothing to do with whatever disagreement you are referring to. I find his comedy hilarious. I think he had a valid point over the candidates letting themselves get cornered into publicly stating extreme positions.

But when it came to Harris' female gendered pronoun comment, I think it represented Maher's sexism rather than being the same as the other comments.

Pronouns vs Boston bomber's right to vote? They're not remotely equivalent.

Warren's the best bet against either Trump or Pence.

I am inclinted to agree. She can probably appeal to moderates and centrists, which, frankly, Sanders could not do in a thousand years. He just either cannot or will not get away from being the eternal Sixties Radical.

Just keep thinking that the moderates and centrists don't matter, that there is a "lost tribe: of left wing/progressive voters out there, and you will hand reelection to Trump on a silver platter.
Frankly, progressives can live in a bubble just like the Trump supporters can.

The more I think about it, the more I think that if Warren gets the nomination, I might actually vote for her. I keep remembering there was a time when I was seriously planning to vote for Clinton. She has a lot of baggage (fairly or unfairly), but it seemed like having an experienced statesperson rather than a retarded man-baby in the White House was a better idea. Even a ruthless, corrupt, and progressive statesperson. The same system I trusted to handle a Trump presidency could handle a Clinton presidency.

Then the email server story broke. As an IT professional, the carelessness displayed at all points in that story, from the initial decision to the response to the investigation, really pissed me off. That, on top of all her other baggage, was the final straw. Given the choice between two retarded man-babies, I chose one of them.

Warren doesn't have all that baggage, and she hasn't yet ****** up basic operational security principles as a senior official in the executive branch. Sure, she's establishment-corrupt, and she'll push a progressive agenda. But I survived Clinton and Obama (and Trump - so far!). I'm sure I can survive President Warren.

---

There are two other bonuses to a Warren victory in 2020. One is, Hillary Clinton will probably live to see someone else become the first woman president by beating Donald Trump in an election.

The other is, it'll be fun to watch all the heads explode when Donald Trump turns out to not be Mega-Hitler after all, and steps down peacefully at the end of his term.

---

ETA: On the flip side, I'm voting in a blue state, so Warren would get my electors anyway. I guess if I really want to vote for Warren, I need to vote for her in my state's Democratic primary.

Sunk cost, then? ;)

Sure you are.: rolleyes :
Not that I expect you to believe me, but that's honestly my train of thought this morning. Would a Warren presidency be so bad? Trump's been okay so far, but do I really want another four years of that retarded man-baby?

And... If Warren, why not Biden, or Sanders? Or Harris? I had seriously considered Sanders in 2016, after all. Well, Biden's also kind of a retarded man-baby. If I'm going to vote for him, I might as well just vote for Trump. For the rest, I'll have to keep thinking.

---

Has it ever occurred to you that you're going to need some votes from people who are not and never will be progressive, but are willing to consider a Democratic candidate? And that spitting in the face of the first one you encounter in the wild is probably counter-productive to your goals?

I mean, seriously, what's your plan here? Ridicule me for considering Warren? Try to talk me out of voting for her? Try to convince me I'm not going to vote for her? Do you want more Trump? Because this is probably how you get more Trump.
