The Greatest Economy in American History!

“It does appear it has to do with Nancy Pelosi retaining her Speakership in the next Congress. She would like that so she’s going to put it to a vote because that’s what her political left really wants.”
@SteveDoocy @foxandfriends
A disgraceful use of Impeachment. Will backfire!

A Federal Judge is allowing the Nick Sandman libel suit to move forward against the thoroughly disgusting Washington Post (which is no longer available at the White House!). He could now have a good chance of winning. Go Nick!

Yesterday’s Never Trumper witness could find NO Quid Pro Quo in the Transcript of the phone call. There were many people listening to the call. How come they (including the President of Ukraine) found NOTHING wrong with it. Witch Hunt!

All of Trump's warnings that impeachment will backfire -- after all, he's a good deed doer and a proponent of democracy who wants to see the Dems get a fair shake in the election -- amounts to whistling past the graveyard. Loudly.

Yours,
Capt Obvious

G.D.P. Grew at 1.9% Rate in Quarter, a New Sign of Slowdown

Trump tweeted:
Q1 GDP has just been revised down to 1.9% http://1.usa.gov/3hAL The economy is in deep trouble

1:24 PM - May 31, 2012

After inheriting a recession so deep that some economist predicted a depression, Obama's stimulus package produced 16 quarters of higher GDP growth than the one we just finished and an upward trend in all economic indicators that continued into the Trump administration. Trump's tax cut for the rich and corporations produced little effect other than a bigger stock market bubble, since that's where most of the money ended up, while leaving the rest of us with another $3 trillion in debt on the national credit card.

Trump's entire re-election strategy depends on people believing a mountain of lies, and the Party of Trump is right behind him.

I object less to lies than to the inconsistency in the lies. Either we have an economy booming magnificently that Trump can brag about or we have an economic peril so dire we must have the Fed cut interest rates yet again as Trump keeps insisting. It can't be both simultaneously. Pick a position, even if it's totally untrue, and stick to it!

That is such a democrat thing to say. You have to decide on what narrative suits your current audience not present some kind of long term consistent narrative. You have to give up on the whole idea of truth and objective reality, we are in total post modern politics now.

Normal people have enough grasp of the concept of reality to understand why they need to at least be consistent in their lies. Trump not only seems to be so comfortable with cognitive dissonance and with re-inventing his reality whenever it's convenient, he simply doesn't understand why anyone would question it.

"Precisely the same program that the Democrats are trying to Impeach President Trump for supposedly slow walking, tomorrow, right here in the Senate, they (the Dems) say they’re going to filibuster for the exact same program.” @senatemajldr Mitch McConnell. Do Nothing Democrats!

“Our Country cannot afford for the Democrats in Congress to take a one year vacation from any productive legislation just because they would rather obsess over Impeachment. ISIS & other radical terrorists are not going to hit the pause button because Democrats won’t fund......

....the United States Military. Congress needs to do its work. We need to fund our Armed Forces.”
@senatemajldr Mitch McConnell. The Dems are a lost cause. In 2020, we need a big, beautiful WIN (all three)! #MAGA

Yeah, for these people lies are situational - and truly in a very postmodern way. I doubt that the concepts of truth and reality are very meaningful them. "Truth" is dictated by power and changes routinely according to the current need. Consistency and coherance are obsolete requirements in the era of Trump and Fox News.

Re: The al-Baghdadi raid...
You said Trump broke the law by not alerting Congress because he's required to do so.
If it helps any, Trump also didn't alert his own chief of staff...

From: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/white-house/mulvaney-was-left-dark-al-baghdadi-operation-n1073731
Acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney first learned about the U.S. military raid against ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi after the operation was already underway... The extraordinary move by Trump to leave his chief of staff out of the most significant U.S. military operation against the world’s most wanted terrorist since the killing of Osama bin Laden in 2011 represents a major blow to Mulvaney... the exclusion of Mulvaney from a moment of such magnitude in the presidency is difficult to grasp because the chief of staff typically would be in national security meetings leading up to it and tasked with coordinating with other top officials on everything from a communications strategy to a plan in case the raid failed.

But alerting his chief of staff might have messed with his golf game.

Bizarre, no doubt, incompetent even but not illegal. This wasn't a coverup of nefarious acts, after all.

His failure to alert Congress for petty political reasons deserves severe criticism. I'd be happy to call it illegal too if I knew what law was violated. I wouldn't be surprised if I was ignorant if the relevant law, but I haven't seen it yet.

I hear this sort of thing a lot and I've never really agreed with it. These folks, like to the rest of the GOP, back Trump because they agree with the vast majority of his policies and rhetoric. It's why he maintains such stellar approval ratings among Republicans in anonymous polling where it takes no courage to tell the truth.

Many GOP in Congress privately criticize and have concerns about Trump according to several accounts, but they won't publicly do so because they fear retaliation by Trump and are most concerned about their own re-election. Sure, they like most of his policies, but his rhetoric? Not so much, I think.

In hushed conversations over the past week, GOP senators lamented that the fast-expanding probe is fraying their party, which remains completely in Trump’s grip. They voiced exasperation at the expectation that they defend the president against the troublesome picture that has been painted, with neither convincing arguments from the White House nor confidence that something worse won’t soon be discovered.

“It feels like a horror movie,” said one veteran Republican senator, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to candidly describe the consensus.

“They’ve decided that they’re going to take it all grudgingly — and privately, perhaps, in disgust — but they’re not going to give up the farm,” said Al Cardenas, former chairman of the American Conservative Union. But, he added, “It’s been piling on, piling on, piling on, and I see defense fatigue on behalf of the Republicans in the Congress.”
