House Impeachment Inquiry

Aren't the democrats doing "half the work" because they are so focused on Trump that they neglect their own duties? Pelosi's district is a shameful slum.

Never been to San Francisco, have you?
Yeah, the Mariana District and Pacific Heights are real slums..

It's worse than all that. They really have painted themselves into corner.

Let's look at their complaints without merit.

1. The impeachment inquiry is illegal. Judge not only said it was legal but the DOJ was WRONG.

2. Said that the inquiry was illegitimate without a full House vote. Not only did the judge say this was false, history says it is false with impeachment inquiries regularly proceeding without full House votes. But guess what? The Republicans are going to get their full House votes. Are they no going to cooperate with Congress? My guess is no.

3. Said it was wrong for the hearings to be private. Not only is this false, it's the right thing to do. But be careful what you wish for. Because now there are going to be public hearings.

Say what you want. Pelosi outplayed the GOP.
Now they are saying it's a convention that there has to be a house vote. Trump wouldn't know a convention if he tripped over it.

There were impeachment inquiry hearings without a full House vote for both Johnson and Nixon. In fact under Nixon they had hearings from December all the way to May. And then they had a full house vote and public hearings.

With Clinton, the House did little to no investigating. They depended on special investigator Starr who was supposed to investigate the Whitewater real estate deal and when he found he couldn't get Clinton on that he switched to investigating Clinton on the affair he had with Monica Lewinsky.

There is NOTHING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING unfair about the impeachment inquiry.

Yeah real slums where you'd be lucky to rent a 2 bedroom apartment for $2500 a month.

Joe might as well say Medina, Wa, is a rat infested ghetto.

Or the Hamptons

Or the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

You must be thinking of shameful slums like this picture that was put out by Turning Point, a right-wing conservative group:

The only problem is, that picture was not taken in Pelosi's district but about 55 miles away in San Jose.

While this really is Trump's, Homeless folks in the heart of the NW Washington, D.C. business district., just a few blocks from the White House: https://philip.greenspun.com/images/pcd0158/homeless-in-washington-dc-13.tcl

There are dozens of similar images.

Not to mention I thought Trump had a perfect economy, the best ever?

“Everybody in their heart is nervous,” said former senator Rick Santorum, a Republican from Pennsylvania. “During the Clinton impeachment, he tried to endear himself to the public as much as possible. But this is the opposite. The base loves him but the president isn’t doing anything to win [other] people over, and that troubles Republicans who have to win support next year from people beyond the base.”
That's a very good point. I imagine that his tantrums to the choir and his various other antics aren't going to win him any new recruits, rather the opposite. So... how does he plan on winning the election?

Biggest news after the latest testimony:

Lt. Col. Alexander S. Vindman, the top Ukraine expert on the National Security Council, told House impeachment investigators on Tuesday that the White House transcript of a July call between President Trump and Ukraine’s president omitted crucial words and phrases, and that his attempts to include them failed, according to three people familiar with the testimony.

...

His testimony about the reconstructed transcript, the aftermath of the call and a shadow foreign policy being run outside the National Security Council came as Democrats unveiled plans for a more public phase of the impeachment process. They plan to vote on Thursday to direct the Intelligence Committee to conduct public hearings and produce a report for the Judiciary Committee to guide its consideration of impeachment articles. The measure will also provide a mechanism for Republicans to request subpoenas for witnesses and give Mr. Trump’s lawyers a substantive role in the Judiciary Committee’s proceedings to mount a defense.

Some lawmakers indicated Colonel Vindman would make a good candidate to appear again at a public hearing next month.

It is not clear why some of Colonel Vindman’s changes were not made, while others he recommended were, but the decision by a White House lawyer to quickly lock down the reconstructed transcript subverted the normal process of handling such documents.

Linky.

He also said he brought the issue up with Sondland, who knew it was about the Bidens, which contradicts Sondland's testimony and looks like perjury.

House Republicans and Fox News are still in full circus mode.

This doesn't surprise me one iota. It's why they were willing to release the 'transcript' to quickly. I want to hear what's on the Top Secret server they so quickly transferred the conversation to.

Rudy Giuliani tweets:

"ANOTHER SCHIFFTY BACKFIRE: A US gov. employee who has reportedly been advising two gov’s?

No wonder he is confused and feels pressure.

However the only opinion that legally counts is Pres. Zelensky’s. Who has clearly said NO pressure.

End of impeachment. End of Schiff."

LOL!

Trump's from NYC. No poor folks there, I'm sure.

Actually last time I was in NYC they had signs all over the place with a number you could ring if you saw a homeless person so they could be picked up and taken to a shelter. Not sure it it's still running.

It is much worse in SF. "Rich districts" - ya sure - all surrounded by districts of filth.

2400 for a 2 bedroom apartment? Keep dreaming.

What I think is odd is how they left "though" and a few other choice bits in the altered transcript.

no wonder the WH is desperate to know who said what: they've got different layers of lies, and it's hard to keep track of them.

I evidently missed those filth districts as I was driving around SF.

Zillow concurs that $2400 for a 2-bedroom apt in SF is optimistic. It lists 463 2-bedroom apts and exactly 3 of them are for $2400 or less. The median price is a little over $4000/month.

ETA: To be fair, Nancy Pelosi's district doesn't have the same boundaries as San Francisco proper, but it's close, and AFAIK Zillow doesn't work with congressional districts. For what it's worth, only a few of the listings shown on Zillow would have been in SF but not in Pelosi's area, and I think none would have been in Pelosi's area but not SF.

Guiliani subpoena update:

https://www.thedailybeast.com/rudy-...ergate-prosecutor-for-congressional-inquiries

President Trump’s personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, has procured his own attorney to represent him during upcoming congressional inquiries. The New York Times reports that Giuliani’s longtime friend, Jon Sale, will be representing him. Sale is a Miami-based attorney at the firm Nelson Mullins, who also served as an assistant special Watergate prosecutor under special prosecutors Archibald Cox and Leon Jaworski. Sale participated in efforts to obtain and review White House tapes in order to determine whether criminal conduct occurred among White House senior staff and within the Oval Office.
