The slow death of the American coal industry has forced Murray Energy, the largest private coal miner in the United States, to file for bankruptcy protection Tuesday.

So all that environmental deregulation by the Trump administration, all the attempts to force utilities to keep coal-fired power plants, and they still went bankrupt.

I wonder how all the coal miners who voted for Trump feel about him now, now that its a bit more obvious he can't deliver on the promise of reviving the coal industry, while at the same time he is undermining their health care. (Oh, who am I kidding... they probably aren't smart enough to recognize they were conned.)

They just need to re-elect him. There will be an amazing turn-around in his second term. They just need to have faith.

Mine workers stand to lose in the bankruptcy — not just in jobs but potentially in the erosion of healthcare and pension benefits. Murray Energy is the last major company contributing to the pension plan of the United Mine Workers of America. The pension plan's depleted funding will only get worse if Murray Energy is relieved of its pension requirements.

I doubt that he will suffer financially to any great extent. It'll be the creditors and employees who will do the heavy lifting in this case. He may even be able to restructure and/or renegotiate the debt so as to leave himself in a much better financial position.

I know nothing about baseball, so I hesitate to try and summarise my thoughts on a 'typical' baseball crowd, but I'm fairly sure I wouldn't have categorised them as 'scumbag lobbyists and liberal elite'.

Speaking of "great parenting moron," Junior is one of the worst liars I've ever seen. He acts exactly like a 12-year-old caught red-handed who lies even though he knows you know he's lying, because he thinks telling the truth would be worse. And after barely avoiding prosecution himself for the Trump Tower meeting (by being considered too stupid to realize what he was doing), Junior still doesn't understand that it's illegal for foreign governments to contribute any "thing of value" to a campaign. Letting him off missed a teaching opportunity.

Yeah, everyone knows they prefer professional wrestling, but it's a strange thing for him to say, considering that his daddy has proclaimed himself to be the true elite and has cut out the middleman by stocking his cabinet with lobbyists.

Don't forget, they also have to give republican majorities in both the senate and house. Actually make that super-majorities. Once the republicans control everything they can turn around the coal industry.

If they cram the coal in hard enough it will become diamonds. That may be the path to actual profit in that industry.

Don't forget the "great health care, at a tiny fraction of the cost", "insurance for everybody" that was going to be so "very easy" to get when Trump became president. The plan they have is all ready to go...after the 2020 election. So vote for Trump and it'll happen, coal miners!
