Now Mulvaney is trying to walk back his statement on the Ukraine.

"I did not say what I just said in front of God and everybody".

Now Mulvaney is trying to walk back his statement on the Ukraine.

"I did not say what I just said in front of God and everybody".

That does not appear to be working for him so far. Every report I've seen started with, "Mulvaney says he didn't just say what he said".

But see, the difference is that before, he was under oath to tell the truth. Once he got out of there, he could go back to lying.

Pay no attention to that stuff he said under oath, the comments now where he tries to spin it, that's the real stuff.

Do we have an Erdogan thread? I can't find it.

There is a whole other story going on re the troop withdrawal from Syria. Things are not what they appear.

BBC Oct 7, 2019: Trump makes way for Turkey operation against Kurds in Syria
The US says it is stepping aside for an imminent Turkish operation against Kurdish-led forces within Syria that have until now been a key US ally.

Say what? That's not the lie Trump was spreading around about withdrawing US troops because he believed the US needed to get out and he was taking that action.

However, a White House statement issued on Sunday makes no reference to the Kurdish fighters.

The statement followed a phone call between President Donald Trump and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

What did the White House say?
"Turkey will soon be moving forward with its long-planned operation into northern Syria," the statement said.

"The United States Armed Forces will not support or be involved in the operation, and United States forces, having defeated the Isis territorial 'Caliphate', will no longer be in the immediate area."

The White House also said that Turkey would take over all responsibility for IS fighters captured by Kurdish forces over the past two years.
How did Trump caving in to Erdogan who wanted the Kurds moved away from the border turn into Trump acting on his own?
What is Turkey planning?
Late on Sunday, Mr Erdogan's office said that he and President Trump had spoken on the phone about Turkey's plan to set up a "safe zone" in north-eastern Syria.

It said the 20-mile (32km) zone along the border was needed to combat "terrorists" and create "the conditions necessary for the return of Syrian refugees".

That was Oct 7th. The mainstream media in the US didn't notice until Oct 13:
NYT: Trump Orders Withdrawal of U.S. Troops From Northern Syria

And now we have Pence acting like Trump's economic threats resulted in Erdogan withdrawing from Syria. In magic Trump-land Trump's tough letter got results.

In reality, Erdogan threw the arrogant Trump letter in the trash. Turkey is ceasing fire for five days giving the Kurds time to evacuate.

It all depends on what Erdogan's goal was. It appears he wanted to invade and hold the Buffer Zone, and make it free of Kurds near Turkish borders. That is proving to be a popular local "win" for him politically, especially considering he is on a political slide at home. So he was going to do this no matter what the USA thought or said.

Come the phone call, Trump is told this. It's happening whether he likes it or not, and if US troops try to stop the Turks, there will be some "friendly fire" incidents which just might be VERY negative on the US home front.

So Donny thinks: what to do, what to do! Obviously, spin it to be about him winning again. Make out that he is the grand and brilliant statesman, and get his few dozen troops out of the line of fire exactly as Erdogan has warned. Also, when the invasion happens, send a "strong letter' to Erdogan trying to act like he is bigger and stronger than he really is.

Come the invasion day, Erdogan has lots of important issues on his mind. So he looks at this letter and thinks Trump is just being a pissant twat trying to keep himself popular with the rapidly dwindling US population who still give a **** what he says. For which Erdogan cares not a jot. Ignore, letter ---> trash.

Erdogan wants to kill as many Kurds as he can - so this "deal" is better than nothing, at least right now.
Of course, if Trump had ordered an orderly retreat over a few months, none of this would have been necessary and the Us could still put economic pressure on Turkey.

Everything that Trump does on the world stage directly benefits Putin.

Now I wonder why that is?

Because you made it up? If not you could back it up with links from every action Trump has taken. But you can't/won't because you're full of BS.

"Everything" is an absolute" but I think you know that.

:D

In my opinion, the onus is on the President and his supporters to show that what he is doing is more in the national interest of the US than that of a hostile foreign country.
At rule should apply absolutely.

And supposedly the agenda will not involve environmental issues at all, but instead will focus on things like economic growth.

Sounds... like a actual Republican concerns will be addressed, then. How can they better divert public property and resources into the coffers of big businesses so that the big businesses can extract large short-term benefits for themselves and leave all the mess for everyone else to take care of! Speaking of Doral, though...

Mayor of Doral heard about G7 plans from Mulvaney press conference

...

...

These people are sick, arrogant, incompetent, and inconsiderate bits of smegma. This obviously isn't news, but it really needs said more.

The United States just made a deal with Turkey to give them everything they wanted

Can that thing they did even really be called a deal? "We'll give you everything you want, run away with our tails tucked in, and thank you profusely for giving us a 5 second head start before you start shooting at us!"

Mulvaney just asmitted it was a quid pro quo in the Ukraine deal.

Which we all knew because it was ******* obvious, of course. Still, he jumped a little prematurely to the usual, "yeah, we did it, but so has everyone everyone else, so we did nothing wrong!"

The US is much worse off now.

GOP slogan will probably still be "better now."

Eh. It may be more transparent, but it seems like pretty small potatoes. Hard to get a good comparison, though. Most professional politicians seems to be much less transparent about this kind of thing.

Hosting G7 at his own resort? Mmm. I suppose that may well be small potatoes compared to much of the rest of the the massive and overwhelming corruption that pervades the Trump Administration. It would be pretty much unthinkable in the Clinton or Obama Administrations, though. Should we long for the days when a guy used a relatively tiny amount of government funds to do some home renovations and was removed from his position with broad bipartisan support? When picking at government waste tended to lead to examples of a couple hundred dollars extra used to hire entertainment for an event, rather than things like the ever growing maw of immigrant detention centers as the unnecessary costs just keep skyrocketing by millions at a time.

In other news...

Lawrence O'Donnell on what Speaker Pelosi stood for

She was standing up for American voters whose democracy has been attacked by foreign agents while Donald Trump welcomes those attacks.

She was standing up for children held in custody at the southern border by Donald Trump, and mothers and fathers separated from those children by Donald Trump.

She was standing up for Kurds in Syria being killed tonight by forces unleashed by Donald Trump.

She was standing up to the lies and racist poison that Donald Trump has been spewing since he first opened his mouth about President Obama's birth certificate.

She was standing up for all of us against all of that.

And so, of course, it was impossible for Donald Trump to understand the moment. Impossible for him to understand what that photograph represents to the world. That's why he tweeted it into history today.

What Nancy Pelosi was saying to Donald Trump then was 'All roads with you lead to Putin.' Those words will be forever memorable."

All roads with Trump lead to Putin? That's far too true.

Facebook might be a GOP media organ

Major policy decisions at Facebook are being driven by three Republican political operatives who work out of its powerful DC office, former Facebook employees tell

I don't think I had heard of the other 2, yet, but... it quite matches the evidence.

Regarding 'everything' benefitting Putin... To his face, in the White House and with some of his cabinet present, Pelosi said to Trump, "With you all roads lead to Putin." I'll bet no one there could find reason to immediately jump to Donnie's defese on that, probably hanging their heads in recognition and shame, like we see in the now iconic photo of the meeting Pelosi adorns her Twitter page with. Why, it might be that during just this very deserved rebuke that photo was taken...

They're close enough to the anniversary (it's Oct. 19) that Pence should be given The O'Hara Award. O'Hara was the general who Cornwallis sent to surrender his sword to Washington at Yorktown because he wouldn't sully himself by surrendering(a war he'd lost).

It's fitting that it's that lickspittle Pence. They spent nine hours "negotiating"? How do you take nine hours to say(Erdogan) "We're done for now, you get five days to move the bodies and get stuff out of our way"? And how long does it take to respond,"Yes sir! Thank you sir! May I have some more?"

Trump Tweets

The radical left tolerates no dissent, it permits no opposition, it accepts no compromise, and it has absolutely no respect for the will of the American People. They are coming after me, because I am fighting for YOU! #TrumpRallyDallas #KAG2020

Tonight, we forcefully condemn the blatant corruption of the Democrat Party, the Fake News Media, and the rogue bureaucrats of the Deep State. The only message these radicals will understand is a crushing defeat on November 3, 2020! #KAG2020

Democrats are now the party of high taxes, high crime, open borders, late-term abortion, socialism, and blatant corruption. The Republican Party is the party of the American Worker, the American Family, and the American Dream! #KAG2020

Mattis mocks Trump at a Gala dinner

Some of the comments include, Trump also said Meryl Streep was 'over rated' so that must make him the Meryl Streep of generals and at least between them they had some victories.
Also trumps words don't bother him. He earned his spurs on the battlefield and Trump earned his from a doctor.
Probably the only person in the military Trump doesn't think over rated is Colonel Sanders.

Mattis gets it. I wish he'd run as a Democrat.
