The Trump Presidency: Part 17

And supposedly the agenda will not involve environmental issues at all, but instead will focus on things like economic growth.

I really do hope that other world leaders decide to stay away.

I'd like it better if they just had their own and neglected to invite him.

It would be even nicer if they held it somewhere in Palm Beach. (Not Mar a Lago, of course.)

Trump Tweets

Great news out of Turkey. News Conference shortly with @VP and @SecPompeo. Thank you to @RTErdogan. Millions of lives will be saved!

This deal could NEVER have been made 3 days ago. There needed to be some “tough” love in order to get it done. Great for everybody. Proud of all!

This is a great day for civilization. I am proud of the United States for sticking by me in following a necessary, but somewhat unconventional, path. People have been trying to make this “Deal” for many years. Millions of lives will be saved. Congratulations to ALL!

The United States just made a deal with Turkey to give them everything they wanted

Yeah the deals seems to be that the Turks will generously stop killing the Kurds if the Kurds just go away and give Erdogan everything he wanted, the art of the deal in action.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if the other G7 leaders basically pull a "No Homers Club" on Trump, send an underling to this dog and pony show and meet up for what will be the unofficial but essentially the real G7 Summit without him.

Regrettably Boris is far too desperate to cozy up to Trump to do anything of the sort. That is of course assuming Boris can cling on to his job long enough for the summit to take place.

Rick Perry is resigning as Energy Commissioner Secretary (don't know where my brain got Commissioner from)

Romney hasn't fallen back in line:

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) ripped the administration over the recently announced cease-fire in Syria, calling President Trump's decision to withdraw troops "a bloodstain in the annals of American history."

"The announcement today is being portrayed as a victory. It is far from a victory. Serious questions remain about how the decision was reached precipitously to withdraw from Syria and why that decision was reached," Romney said.

Romney's Senate floor speech came after Vice President Pence announced a five-day cease-fire.

Linky.

Mulvaney's even better at the Trump apology game than Suckabee was. He's having a briefing now.

Reporter: "Did Trump condemn that video (Trump trashing the press)?"
Mulvaney: "I don't know did you ask him?"

Reporter: "You held up the Ukraine aid."
Mulvaney: "Blah blah blah...." excuses nothing to do with the favor requested in Trump's call. "We all think the call was perfect."

Reporter: "Did you consider other facilities for the G7 meeting?"
Mulvaney: "We all sat around talking about different facilities and Trump said, how about Doral?, and we all said yes."
Reporter: "Doesn't Trump care about the appearance?"
Mulvaney: "Trump got over that long ago."

Mulvaney just asmitted it was a quid pro quo in the Ukraine deal.

They're following the same script. Deny until that doesn't work. And then say even if they did it, there's nothing wrong with what even if they did.

Continuing from mu above post:

Reporter: "If there was nothing wrong, why did you put the Ukraine call transcript on the secret server?"
Mulvaney: "I'm not going to discuss why we do things." Adds a lie that if they wanted to cover it up, why did they release the transcript? Doesn't address the fact the released transcript was abridged.

The Turkish foreign minister on the supposed agreement:

We are suspending fire so the Kurds can withdraw peacefully. We are not ceasing fire. And in doing so the US has agreed to destroy heavy equipment.

Face saving or just more gaslighting?

Apparently negotiations were already ongoing to have the Kurds withdraw from Turkey's border area "before Trump's unforced error" per the expert on BBC News.

The US is much worse off now.

Darn, I missed the best part of Mulvaney's press conference where he said they wanted Zelensky to investigate the 2016 election.

These guys have so many lies to maintain they can't keep them all straight.

I just had a fun thought. Suppose all the G7 attendees stiffed Trump on the bill?

At first I thought this was hysterical.
Then I realized that Trump’s property would submit the bill to the State Department or some other executive branch agency and it would be paid (with ridiculous padding of course).

ETA
It is also fun to think about them pulling an old-school Trump: offer to pay 60 cents on the dollar.

Or get Trump and his properties to sign a non-disclosure agreement on the pricing and payments before stiffing him. Then when he publicly complains say that he violated the NDA so they don’t have to pay.
