The Trump Presidency: Part 17

I'd entirely forgotten that previous gem of his:
"I think you might want to listen. There isn't anything wrong with listening," Trump says. "If somebody called from a country, Norway, [and said] 'We have information on your opponent' — oh, I think I'd want to hear it."
It even resulted in a prompt rebuke from the head of the FEC, pointing out that yes, it would be wrong:

(and she's had to repeat it more than once, to her annoyance).

Trump Tweets

Start thinking about getting bigger tractors!
I imagine Trump said "what's a tractor?" when his lackeys suggested this tweet.

Bigger? No way. They barely fit on public roads as it is. I can't think of any farms in my area that have fields that are contiguous enough to be able to avoid the roads.

The Trump administration is already embroiled in yet another controversy over their farm policies.
When the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue came to speak at the World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin last week, farmers hit hard by tariffs and low prices were looking for a message of hope that the White House administration had their backs. Instead, Perdue's view that smaller producers were likely to go out of business at the expense of bigger producers left many who had travelled far and wide to attend the meeting feeling despondent.

"Now what we see, obviously, is economies of scale having happened in America—big get bigger and small go out," Perdue said on October 1. Link

In an editorial the Des Moines Register stated:
Such remarks from the Trump administration official rub salt in the wounds of an industry that continues to face losses and bankruptcies. Farmers should remember Perdue’s words when they cast ballots next November. Link

This isn't funny for those farmers but I find it a bit amusing since Red Barron Farms posted numerous posts suggesting that FDR's New Deal was a plot to get rid of small farms. He quoted some Secretary of Agriculture that said "Get Big or Get Out".

There is only one..actulaly two a noun and a modifier..for Trump at his last two rallies.
Pure Fascism.
And suprised his proposol to allow cities to exclude immigrants has not gotten more notice.
Welcome back Jim Crow.

For what? Being mean to him?

He didn't say anywhere in any of the ramblings I've read direct quotes of.

I mean he isn't, he's constantly threatening to sue his enemies and never does it, and he tossed out the "Impeach them" language in the same rant because he still doesn't understand that's not how that works, but it's still disconcerting where his mind keeps going.

Not for anything they say in Congress. they have immunity for that.
he is just talking big..and Pelosi and Schaff ..who is a damn good lawyer...know that.
And Since the day he took over Daddy's business, threatening nuisance Lawsuits has been a Trump tactic. Problme is he did it so often that people ignored him, nkonwing his suits would be thrown out of court on the first hearing.

Honestly, it may well be that he knows how it works. It wouldn't be the first time he's worked hard to utterly subvert a term and muddy the waters so that authoritarians and those not paying much attention will be confused enough that he can get them to believe just about anything that he wants them to believe, regardless of how brazenly false it is.

Some of the comments following the Tweet are worrisome. Trumpers bring up Steele and Clinton no matter how many times it is explained there is no equivalence.

False beliefs are so tiring.

I guess he likes paying lawyers.

I mean stiffing them.

Some ignored it, sure. Many of the "little guys" that he's quite used going after aren't willing or able to go through the financial, social, emotional, and massive waste of time that they likely don't have to spare troubles involved with dealing with a thoroughly unethical legal team with seemingly unlimited money and... connections in high places. Schiff and Pelosi could handle it, sure, but there's good reason (albeit thoroughly evil reason) why he's so used to trying that route.
