Bigfoot: The Patterson Gimlin Film - Part 5

Patterson had at some point asked Hodgson to call him when tracks were found. Perhaps during RPs trip to LA in July. But apparently no call was made when the Onion Mountain tracks were found. Al may have forgotten about Roger, or possibly he did not find out about the Onion Mtn tracks until later. Green was being secretive about the track finds, coordinating with Bud Ryerson and Buds wife.

Patterson and DeAtley had visited Wallace in Toledo WA at some point, and Wallace had, I am informed, directed him to the Blue Creek mountain road to find tracks.

Whether Patterson and Wallace had coordinated we will never know but one might imagine a call from Patterson to Wallace at Shorty’s house in Willow Creek on August 26
“hey they didnt call me about those tracks on Onion Mountain!”
“ Ok I’ll go back out this weekend and make some on Blue Creek Mountain, and make sure Hodgson finds out about them. “

The Patterson DeAtley visit to Wallace was probably in May of 1967 after Patterson ran out of money to pay Fred Smith the cameraman for the spring footage. I think that pro footage convinced DeAtley to get on board. Prior to that Roger had very little that would have convinced DeAtley, who was pretty hardheaded by all accounts. If Fred Smith used a newsreel camera from KIMA tv it would have been an Auricon 16 mm sound camera, an expensive item. Wallace had one and Patterson offered to rent it. Wallace said no, at which point imho RP non-rented the K 100 used for the PGF in October.

The bleevers swallow the story that Patterson came down to Bluff Creek to film tracks. Green, by comparison, filmed tracks by getting in his van and driving down immediately. He didn’t need horses and a Gimlin and a cameraman like Jerry Lee Merritt. Then the next time tracks were found he immediately flew down. Patterson on the other hand supposedly did nothing for a month or longer (depending on which lie you choose) after being notified.
And of course Patterson had all kinds of opportunities to film tracks much closer to home.

We know this is a made-up story.

No way a beast as stealthy and smart as a Bigfoot 'trips' over an irrigation pipe.

The linked article says the bigfoot was carrying a pig over its shoulder, tripped over the pipe and "sent the pig flying". I think it is entirely appropriate that the story features a flying pig.

DNA from the pipe would be obvious.

Also, did we get to record the sounds Bigfoot makes when it kicks a pipe in the middle of the night?

Would that be Bigfoot swearing?

I've kicked things in the dark, with my bare feet, and I promise you, that is when Bigfoot would have sworn.

The skeleton is supposedly part Paranthropus, part Neanderthal scaled up to Patty’s size. What happened to Gigantopithecus?
I wonder if he will start selling 1:8 scale plastic model kits by Revell?

Another (late) obituary is for Paul Vella from England who died 2 years ago. He was the second owner of Bigfoot Forums. I had given him the nickname of "madman across the water".

Bigfootery needs more people like Vella from the UK who say that that thing over there really does exist in those woods over there.

Leroy Blevins passed away almost a year ago. He was able to see Gimlin hiding in the bushes in the PGF.

A crockpot, but a fun one I guess. Blevins' home made bigfoot costume was silly looking by movie monster standards, but it effectively debunked some trenchant footer fantasies about the PGF. No zippers were visible, the "mime" (Blevins) was able to walk smoothly in a costume that created the illusion of great mass, etc.

I can't believe this is the first I've heard of it. Sad to hear as he wasn't an old man at all. In truth I ended up having extensive interaction with him back in the day at the BFF as a mod. We weren't buddies or friends, just similar minded hobbyists playing gawd in a forum with the BAN button (actually I never banned anyone). Curiously, I ended up getting BANNED there a full 6 months after my last post when I sent him a "piece of my mind" email after having been alerted to him rudely mischaracterizing to others my (HH) problems with the BFF.

Regardless, he was actually pretty cool, though I never agreed with his seemed-out-place über pro stance. A nice, reasonable, decent guy and he wasn't stupid. Nor was he an ogre type despite looking a lot like Shrek. One time out of the blue (just to be nice?) he took our addresses and sent a couple of us several DVDs full of the old time Bigfoot TV shows and movie releases of the 70's. I still have them.

They say "it takes all kinds", which surely has to include a guy in the UK who owns a Bigfoot board. RIP Paul Vella.
