The Trump Presidency: Part 17

//With apologies to Hot Shots 2//

*Trump stands before the Cabinet and the Joint Chiefs*

Trump: "And tomorrow morning at 0800 hours with everything we've got we hit the enemy... here!" *Smacks the wall map with a pointing stick*

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs: "Ah Mr President... that's Minnesota."

Trump: "Exactly. That's the beauty of my plan. We'll defeat the enemy and get in some great fly fishing before winter sets in too hard."

Chairman: "But Sir the enemy on the other side of the planet."

Trump: *Exasperated* "Then we'll fly them over here, Jesus man do I have to think of everything?"

I asked myself "I wonder why people trust Trump. He's a conman!"

And then of course I realised "well, that's why they trust him. Conmen do what they do because it works."

I wonder if somehow conservatives are more susceptible to that, of if it's just the current climate that made them more receptive to the con.

Yep, and it works typically because trusting the con man promises some reward that could not otherwise be obtained.

That's how con men work. They stand in front of 10 people, tell them point blank "I'm going to cheat 9 of you and reward 1 of you" and all 10 people hear "And you're the one I'm going to reward" while never intended to reward any of them.

That's how Trump can stand in front of a crowd of thousands in Iowa, say "How stupid are the people of Iowa?" and win Iowa in a landslide.

<snort> :thumbsup::p

Trump can stand in front of America and promise to restore the greatness of a mythical fill-in-the-blank version of a bygone age by his mere presence on the scene, and ... Some people believe that?

Yep.

I am enjoying the humiliation of Lindsay Graham enormously.
He sold his soul to become a Trump Butt Kisser in hopes that he could become a trusted Trump advisor, but now Trump's actions in Syria have shown how stupid the was.

Assumes that he still had a soul to sell to trump, that seems highly unlikely.

Trump has $841,219 in unpaid police bills over the last three years for his rallies.

But remember a Trump Never Pays His Debts. They were foolish for even trying to bill his campaign, of course they are not going to get paid.

I mean come on fiscal conservatives never pay debts when they can renege on them.

And in other news:

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news...legal-bill-after-losing-windfarm-court-battle
Donald Trump’s family firm is refusing to accept a legal bill worth tens of thousands of pounds after he lost a lengthy court battle against a windfarm near his Aberdeenshire golf course..

I am shocked, shocked I tell you! No, wait, no I'm not.

How could Trump have lost such a case? Hmm.... I wonder.

From the article:

He took his battle to the Scottish parliament, claiming the country’s heavy investment in onshore windfarms would ruin its tourism industry. In one famous exchange with MSPs, Trump insisted the committee did not need to call any witnesses to verify his claims. “I am the evidence,” he said. “I’m an expert in tourism. I have won many, many awards … if you dot your landscape with these horrible, horrible structures, you will do tremendous damage.”
Oh he was just trolling the court.

Who gives awards to experts in tourism?

I know it must grate with the likes of the general not being consulted but when your CinC is the reincarnation of Napoleon and ghost wrote the Art Of War what useful input could the general have?
Surprise! The military is a political tool and is being used as one by a president who won't pretend the military is anything else.

For all the sympathy I might have for the young men and women who join the military for the purpose of lifting themselves out of what are often bad situations, I have none for generals who are happy to be used as political tools as long as the users pay lip service to their expertise, honor, and dedication...especially when those generals will end up with 6-figure salaries from defense contractors to supplement their generous military pensions when they decide to hang up their stars.

No, no, no, Trump has merely been dissatisfied with some contractors and asked them to think about how much it will cost them to prove otherwise. Well, yeah, then a few that he just outright screwed, but ya know, that's not like everybody. Just bad odds.

Erdogan wants to not just remove the YPGWP, the US backed Kurdish militia, from the Syrian side of the border but also "resettle" Syrian refugees (mostly Arabs) in this border region which has largely been populated by Kurds.

American soldiers heavily aided the YPG with both air-power and ground based special forces in its struggle against ISIS. They faced the brunt of the fighting against ISIS in Syria. After ISIS was removed from the area the YPG took control and the US military forces acted as kind of peacekeepers by not allowing the Turks to attack YPG while they were present.

More importantly, this US presence is quite
and if they left it would be hard for the Americans to reestablish a foot-print in the region, which they have used to frustrate Iran's ambitions to dominate Syria and use it as a springboard for any conflict against Israel.
Yes, I now understand better. Turkey equates the YPG and the PKK. The White House press release said Turkey will “soon be moving forward” with its “long-planned operation into Northern Syria.” Yet it apparently *wasn’t* moving forward as long as a few U.S. special ops forces and some from other countries remained in the area. The U.S. - or rather Trump - doesn’t want to fight either the Turks or the YPG it helped form. And, IMO, Trump does not want to hear of even one U.S. soldier killed in the melee.

Meanwhile about 1,000 total military personnel remain in Syria? As far as I can tell this is a de facto compromise - Trump said he’d remove all troops, military and Congress reached some kind of understanding to let people cycle out without replacing them.

It would be nice if the U.S. media would break all this down rather than just getting a boner because Lindsey Graham was criticizing Trump. Instead I pieced it together with clarification from a Kiwi, a Scandinavian and Al Jazeera. WaPo and the NYT may have explained this but I was clicking on articles I knew weren’t behind a paywall.

Also read Erdogan was quite miffed that he did not get a one-on-one meeting with Trump during the UN summit. Add that to the fact he’s probably pissed due to Trump kissing Saudi ass in the Khashoggi matter. AND Trump told Breitbart in 2015 that he had a conflict of interest in Turkey - his Trump towers in Istanbul. PLUS he didn’t allow Erdogan to kidnap that Gullen guy who was supposedly responsible for the alleged “coup” against Erdogan. One more thing - any chance that Erdogan either has or could easily manufacture dirt on Trump?

He was extorted, again.

I guess it’s kind of good that the Syria thing appeared to die down pretty quickly in the media now that the “omg Graham criticized Trump!!!” headline is out of the way. But behind the scenes it’s only going to grow, IMO, and it’s fine with me - maybe better - this way. Military and security officials and even U.S. senators are plenty riled. Let this thing fester. Although I do hope it doesn’t result in ethnic cleansing, obviously. Or turning thousands of ISIS fighters and their families loose. Turkey and/or Syria can simply kill them all without too much backlash. Oh, and with Russian/Iranian help. Though I think Iran probably doesn’t want to kill a bunch of Kurds.

It’s interesting that this minor uproar occurred within hours of Trump’s conversation with Erdogan. Why was the press release put out? One thought I had is that the WH knew it was going to leak immediately and had to act like they were being upfront about it. Actually it sounds like within hours U.S. forces were withdrawn. I wonder about the mechanics of such a sudden about-face - who gives the orders? How does it get from Trump to the field in such a brief period?

The Trump Organization’s two Scottish golf courses lost $14.3 million in 2018, extending a multiyear string of losses that have intensified since Donald Trump took office, according to annual financial reports released this month.

The results add further pressure to two of President Trump’s key overseas investments at a time when the company faces backlashes on many fronts, including customers who shun the president’s family business for political reasons and golf course neighbors upset by the company’s plans to build hundreds of new homes on bucolic farmland.

Hasn’t Donald Trump been fully discredited by now?
Yes, but your mileage may vary. Ultimately, it's up to you to decide for yourself, though. So it's a question you can answer any time you want.

Do we have to continue listening to his lies?
We do not. In fact, I generally don't listen to Trump at all, without examining whether or not he's lying at any particular point in time. I recommend you try it out, and see what you think.

Trump Tweets

I think that Crooked Hillary Clinton should enter the race to try and steal it away from Uber Left Elizabeth Warren. Only one condition. The Crooked one must explain all of her high crimes and misdemeanors including how & why she deleted 33,000 Emails AFTER getting “C” Subpoena!

Is he shifting to Warren in his hourly attacks?
