The Trump Presidency: Part 17

Trump and his disciples have been bleating that the whistleblower's information is all second hand & hearsay, and that he did not have any first hand knowledge of the call, which is actually true.

Now, a second whistleblower has come forward; one who corroborates the narrative of the first whistleblower, and this one DOES have first hand knowledge of the call.

Has Trump's narrative changed yet?

I’m still majorly confused about the extent of U.S. involvement in Syria. Last year he supposedly announced he was pulling 2,000 troops. He’s now doing what? Moving 50-100 troops away from the border area. How much of an impact can that even have? And were those 2,000 troops brought home?

I don’t know what good a few dozen U.S. troops does in the region.
Yet Pat Robertson and prominent senators see this as a disaster.

This just isn’t adding up to me.

I believe Trump told the Pentagon to remove the troops and they said, essentially, no.
So Trump starts issuing his orders via Twitter, thinking that the DOD would have no choice but to leave Syria.
And then they said: we'll bring back those who are going to leave on rotation anyway, call it what you like.

Has anyone noticed that many of the forum's Trump sycophants have been very quiet lately?
To be fair, I don’t see a lot of sycophants here. More like apologists who treat defending Trump as an intellectual exercise. There are a couple of hard-core white supremacists who probably do love Trump. I don’t mind their presence because it reminds me that Trump still has a lot of support. Otherwise it’s easy to fall into the belief that everyone is just as horrified and disgusted as I am. That’s a dangerous assumption for me.

There is a youtube channel called "Legal Eagle", which is sort of a blog where a lawyer usually analyzes court cases in various TV shows and movies for their legal accuracy. However, he occasionally covers other material.

He recently did an episode where he talked about Trump's sycophants trying to dismiss the whistleblower as "hearsay". He pointed out that yes, it might actually be hearsay, but the definition of what is 'hearsay' is incredibly broad, and there are so many exceptions where hearsay is legally allowed that its simply not a problem for the impeachment inquiry.

Well I’m all for any Trump tweets that chip away at his support. He seems to have a habit of not following through with anything, though.

It’s so sad to see once-functioning people progress through the different stages of addiction. Whether their fix is cocaine or attention, they need more and more just to make it through the day. Eventually, they turn to crime just to support their addiction. So sad.

To that point, remember that picture of Dump eating from a taco salad bowl that was taken during the campaign. This piece looks at a different part of the photo. Paraphrasing Arte Johnson, "Veeeery interesting".

Ever since he asked for Assad to be assassinated, the Pentagon has decided to pretend Trump doesn't order anything unless it's written down in triplicate with an affidavit from the entire cabinet and McConnell.

This whole hearsay business is bizarre. Trump's own words incriminate him.

You're doing the numbers wrong - the enemy of the Kurds right now is Turkey, and Turkey will not attack while even a handful of American troops remain.

Holy cow! All those things I never noticed. They didn't photo shop that stuff in did they? I was with them with the trophy table, but they lost me with the drawer being open.

I think they photo-shopped it. I'd love to find out I'm wrong.

Turkey is invading Northrrn Syria.
The President is keeping us out of it.
The gang that never met a war they didn’t want to fight (and fail to win) will be outraged.
When they howl, ask them one thing.
Ask them exactly how many American lives it’s worth.
I say “Zero.”

Ah, pimping for racists, again, Donnie? Kurt ******* Schlichter??!!

Paul Krugman lists 3 reasons for Trump's decision on Syria.none of them good"
1. He has business interests in Turkey and hopes for favors from Erdogan.
2. Erdogan is a right wing dictator, Trump's kind of guy.
3, Just doing what his boss Putin is telling him to do.

I don't think that any of those are the real reason. like other posters have mentioned, this is a 'squirrel' moment. I don't think this is the first time trump has ordered a troop withdrawal when he's been under immense political pressure. He tends to go to one of his big pandering options (farmer bailout/troop withdrawal/wall-push/immigrant ban) options to light a fire under his base when things are warm. It has the dual function of distraction and raising a wave of popular defense for him. 'look! im the greatest president, doing what i promised, and do dems are just out to get me'
