Trump might have a point:
Evangelicals seem much more concerned with keeping their King Cyrus on the Throne than they care about the US, their fellow Americans, or just basic human decency.

No. The one-and-only issue is that Trump tried to get another country to start an "investigation" of a domestic political opponent.

Whether he tried to use bullying to get this done may be an aggravating factor; but the crime was committed whether or not any implicit or explicit threats were involved.

correct for the crime of Solicitation of help from a foreign government.

But NA has a point that Trump can also been seen as committing Bribery and Abuse of Power (by involving Barr and members of the State Department) in a matter of personal benefit.

Barr's DOJ claimed that it couldn't find a Campaign Finance violation because it couldn't establish what Dirt On Biden would be worth - well, it would be worth $400 million of taxpayer money to Trump. Let's just take that number, shall we?

Is that particular hay being made by political authorities (congressmen and senators, say) and journalists or just on fora like this? I haven't seen it elsewhere because the manner of producing a rough transcript has been the convention for decades.

First hand knowledge was never a legal requirement, the form was changed to reflect that.
 
It's like Trumpanzees think that the legal defenses they see in blockbuster thrillers are effective and accurate. It's not surprising, these are the same idiots that believe torture is an effective method of gathering intelligence for the same reasons.

As I posted in another thread, this is the weakest of some very weak arguments in defense of Trump.

Do I really need to spell out the delicate situation that Ukraine finds itself in?

When hostages are held by terrorists, and there's a threat to behead them, and they read prepared statements for the camera, do you also take those statements at face value? I'm guessing not.

Get real.

There are no valid excuses for Trump, no scenario that would absolve him, nothing that Obama has done that would be equivalent.

There is no point in convincing the Trump Mob.
But it is no need to convince the IC or Judges who might have to adjudicate this, either: they can see this for what it is.

That, and the fact that the White House's own transcription describes the guilty behavior as having happened.
